I've never had a slug problem in my entire life, so never had to deal with them. Last night my front porch got invaded by slugs, dozens of them. They are not full grown, most appear juvenile down to baby slugs.

I tried diatomaceous earth, didn't have an effect. Tonight I discovered salt makes them lose their little minds.

Any suggestions on how to deal with these slimy critters?

Salt burns their little bodies so it works well and immediately. Bury a bowl just above ground level in your garden and keep it full of beer. That will work without you wasting your salt or getting salt in the garden. Any beer that is spilt on the ground is good for the garden it promotes biotic growth that keeps your plants healthy.

Beer Batter Slugs

Bisquick
Beer. enough to make a batter about as thin as pancake batter
Roll slugs in batter and deep-fry till golden brown.

Wait, this is the end of April not the first, ignore this post.

If you know any teachers who might study mollusks with their students, someone might be interested in coming to collect some. Me? I would come and get at least 30 so each of my students could have their own. Trust me, inner city children would be grossed out at first, but then they would be in love with having their own. "Do they bite?" would be one of the first questions out of their mouths. One morning it had rained and there were large earthworms all over the street. I went out and picked up a bunch of them. Such interest you would have never gotten from studying annelids out of a book.

Doesn't beer batter make everything better?????:p

You could always collect them and go fishing.

When I was a kid and swam in the river, sometimes I'd come out with a blood sucker on me. Ewwww! We just went and got some salt to put on it and they rolled right off.

Actually slugs are pretty good. They are snails without the shell and if you saute them in butter with a touch of garlic they are great.
If you don't like the taste of liver you might not like them but it is just a hint of liver taste.

This is worth remembering if we are ever really hungry, or even starving.

Slugs and snails around here carry liver flukes, extremely unhealthy and then I did hear of a guy dying from eating a slug, I think I'd rather consider eating rattlesnake before those slimy creatures. Actually the only cold blooded creature I'd eat is fish.

Years ago in Halifax... escargot was a bar food. An order was 6 snails baked in a little dish with 6 indentions... sort of like a little muffin pan but not metal, some sort of pottery. They were baked with butter, garlic and herbs... yummy!
Guaranteed to make me throw up, although I did enjoy eating them -- ONCE.

Lobsters used to be prison food.

I'm fairly confident that they make good fishbait too. Maybe wear 'examination' gloves when handling them - anyway I would.

I don't have hooks big enough for an entire chicken :p ( I will go to my corner now )
