A few of the girls...

I haven't seen Welsh ponies in so many years I forgot how stunning they are.

What did you seed their pasture with?

I'd love for you to share your experiences with the breed. I am always curious when you post about your animals. You have Jacob Sheep as well, right?

They look a little like the short Morgan horse. Still a bit longer in the body but before I saw the Welsh pony I thought of the Morgan breed.

We had a pair of welsh ponies. Digger O Dell and Boston. They were cool but one of my favorite all time horses was my sisters horse a welsh-connemara pony named Snow princess. All white, never used a bit, smart, fast, incredible dissipation. I miss her!

After 17 hours on the road ... We are back from Ohio. It was to be a two day trip but things changed. (changing weather)
Pictures tomorrow of Mac ... my Welsh ~ A ~ stallion.
I'm beat.

We over-seeded with a cool weather crop ... ryegrass and a legume mixtures.

I have a question about planting a cool weather crop I live in growing zone 8a. Is it too late to seed? Our horses graze on about 8 acres but have been getting hay for the pass few weeks. Just wondering if this is something I could do.

You could try it next fall or when it starts cooling down in your area. That would give it a little time to get up and going.

I'm interested in over-seeding with a winter graze as well but do not want to damage my Bermuda pastures. Also is winter rye hard on some horses stomach?

We over seed ...with and winter rye with legume mixtures. Which is what "we" go with here in Virginia. Your area may differ... research ...
Sorry I'm not much help but land differs from state to state to state.

ahhhh! Welsh ponies!!! HA! brings back memories of a pair that my dad bought when I was young. My dad wanted to use them to pull a cart. The man that sold them said the ponies were broke to drive. My dad bought them and hooked them to the cart as soon as he got home. The ponies made a pretzel out of it. Those beasts never seen a cart in their lives! good lessons learned for buying without trying!
