This rocking chair was mine when I was 4 or 5 my grandfather built it. After I out grew it my dad redone it for my little sister, from there dad redone it for my daughter. It had been rocked in so much one of the runners was wore flat.

I redone it again and passed it down to my grandson, had to make a new runner and replace the seat and back and recover it. I recovered it using denim and a pair of bib overalls. Here is a couple of pictures.

Thank you guys! Was a labor of love. I gave it my grandson for his 4th Birthday and he has already put a lot of miles on it lol he loved the bib overall on the seat back because it had a pocket for him to put his stuff in lol I wear bib overalls a lot and he was excited so I got him a pair like mine, and like my grandpa always wore.

Good looking kid Mules.

What a nice family heirloom to pass on to your grandson.

I want to make a suggestion to you and anyone who has family heirlooms. Either write underneath with a Sharpie or make a laminated tag to go with your heirlooms, so that the information gets passed on with the item. I have the spinning wheel that was my great grandmother's, made by her brother. In a generation or two, who will know about her and the spinning wheel if I don't leave the information with it? I have a number of family heirlooms, and even my siblings wouldn't know the history of some of the items without the tags.

My Uncle gave me an old rocking chair that was built in the late 1800s by me Great Grandpa and his brother. I was excited at first but when I got it I was disappointed.
My cousins had completely reworked it and not in a good way. They replaced all the slats on the bottom with flat boards, not curved like the originals, and they used drywall screws. The finish had all been stripped off and redone poorly. I'll keep it but it will never be the something I cherish.
Yours on the other hand looks good and he will get a lot of use out of it.
Family history is so easily lost. I have a big box full of pictures that my folks were going to go through and label with names, places and dates if they remembered. They didn't so I have no idea who most of those people were. There are a bunch that I know someone would like to have but I have no idea who that someone would be.
Maybe a good winter project to sort through them and see
