Woke up at 3:15 AM when hubby left to go hunting so had a little extra time. Mom had given me some homespun scraps so I made 3 crazy quilt blocks. They will become hot pads once I get the seams covered in turkey tracks. That was the first stitching I've done in a month. It did me sooo much good.

You lsdirs and Jims lady are so talented.

Jim

I got most of my rail fence blocks done last night. I will probably try to get 4 more out of the misc. pieces and scraps so I can make it a better shape and size. I need to sit and do some math and figuring. My goal is to use up fabrics so this isn't a tough quilt but will hopefully look nice.

Jim, piecing is when you cut shapes and sew them together. Applique is patchwork when you cut shapes like a leaf or a heart and sew them onto your square of fabric. Needleturn is when you use the point of your needle to turn the edge of your patch under as you sew it down. I was interested in the applique, too, because of the pattern. I finally got a close enough look at the picture to see that it is a raw edge (meaning the outer edge of the patch was not turned under) with an outline stitch along the edges so I it won't fray. Then it was cross stitched over the appliqued patch. I do a lot of cross stitch, too, and I don't remember seeing any of the stamped blocks with the applique on it so I thought that was a neat detail.

Jim your Lady is awesome!! definitely all the quilts will be keepsakes for your family!

Yes LadyLocust would love to see pictures..

I am starting a Dinosaur Quilt for a 4 year old boy who is the son of a dear friend.. I am so excited to be quilting again.. it's been a while.. I was able to do a little sewing for Christmas.. made some zippered Candy Bags and some napkins.. last summer my wonderful Pfaff machine fell and is still broken!!.. I really, really need to take it in to be repaired.. kinda scared to find out what it will cost.. whew! I bought a sewing machine from BiMart for $99 to use until I can get Pfaff repaired.. It is a Brother sewing machine.. works fine but I have to remember to sew slowly with it.. I'm used to going "peddle to the metal" .. :))

I just spoke with CoSunshine yesterday.. she and I have decided to join the new Eleanor Burns, BOTM and sew them together.. she is such a sweetie and makes everything fun to do.. I wish she and I lived closer together.. I still haven't finished the Farm BOTM from last year but have every intention of doing so.. :)

I have 10 complete blocks so far and lots of pieces in various progression to becoming blocks.
Also, @Maxine in Oregon just for future reference, old machines can be found super reasonable and are excellent for quilting. I've many times found an old machine at a yard sale or thrift shop for $5-$10 with the thread all tangled. I'd take it home, cut out all the thread, clean it, retread, and adjust the tension. I'd often sell them (usually about $20) for a youngster to learn to sew on. They are far more dependable than newer machines. Anyhoo, just in case.

Yes great color choices.. I like the way the designs look together.. good job! I have not seen that pattern before.. where did you find it??

Thanks for the "Heads UP" info on used sewing machines. Hopefully I won't have to find another one soon.. whew!

Katie have you done any BOTM lately??

Meercat what are you into?? I can tell you are very interested in the sewing projects.. :)

Sorry if I am behind on all the sewing information.. I haven't been able to use my computer for awhile.. Have very much missed what is happening here with all the sewing projects and cannot believe all the awesome quilts Jim's wife is turning out!!! WOW!

… Katie have you done any BOTM lately?? …
Good to "see" you Maxine! I've been working on odds and ends trying to gradually finish some of the hundred or so projects that I've started through the years and not finished. I haven't finished my Fun on the Farm quilt either and decided not to even start the QIAD 2020 one. Had a sewing slump most of autumn but I always seem to perk up after New Year's and get excited to start sewing again. I do have one set of blocks that I want to make into a little top this week so I'll try to get a picture of that posted when that gets made.

Hello Everyone! I’m back!!!

Katie, I just have three of the Farm blocks to do. I was on track and then got sidelined by health problems and limited use of my right arm. Maxine has been cheering me on and got me all excited about Elenor Burns latest QIAD BOM so I am going to get back in the sewing room and do what I can each day. I’m VERY excited to get back in the swing of things!!!

Lady Locust, I LOVE your machine!!! It and the cabinet looks like a 1923 Singer that I used to have. It was a work horse too!!! I think the older machines were built better and also built to last a lifetime. People didn’t have the money to buy a new one every couple years like today. I too love all of your fabrics and the pattern that you are using. Please keep us updated on your progress!

Okay, I fibbed. Gracie is a 1918 model. @Maxine in Oregon Rob Peter to Pay Paul is an old pattern. Probably haven't seen it because it isn't very rotary cutter friendly. The "pattern" I'm using is from a McCall's 1976 magazine. I can try to scan and post it if you are interested. I am doing my own thing as far as setting etc. which I will show once it's to that point.
Also, I think Barbara Brackman is doing a BOM also, but I haven't had a good chance to look into it. E Burns is awesome so that one should be fun.
