Mo, I don't blame you for firing the dog walker. Unreliable people is one of my pet peeves. Got a friend like that- says he's going to show up & then doesn't. We had hired him to do some yard work since I can't be out in the heat & my brother has severe allergies. He still owed several hours of work & never completed it.
I meant to respond to your post about FedEx but I was over 10000 character limit so had to abridge my post. I'm glad you lit a fire under them & got your stuff.

Trying to catch up. Got hit with my chronic fatigue & forgot to take my meds but am feeling a bit better now. I know I need to lose some weight to not feel so run down but I feel so run down it's hard to get up & move. At least it's not as bad as when I was having symptoms similar to Klein Levins Syndrome.

Sorry to hear your husband has defective repair parts. It's bad enough that he had to go through getting that all put in, but to have it be defective is a big kick in the teeth.
I'm sure that desk is extremely expensive & the only showroom seems to be in Pennsylvania. Wish they had stuff like that around here. I was very sad when the Furniture Traditions company went belly up. They had online order options, although they were expensive. They had really cool features like hidden drawers, secret gun compartments, secret jewelry compartments, & were made of solid wood.

Sounds like it would work great for my BIL's Corvette then. My truck can be cleaned up & the paint on it is pretty good BUT it's very hard to get & keep clean because we have no indoor garage areas. It's exposed to pollen, dust, leaves, & bugs constantly. Plus cats like to climb on it. I'm sure if I put that stuff on my cats would jump on the truck.

They do the holding the package thing where I live. If it rains they won't even deliver at all but they have legitimate reason. Roads aren't safe when they flood, are full of pot holes, and up until recently most of them were unpaved. My personal road is still unpaved so they don't like doing down it. The drivers have admitted to me they deliver to my area last so they don't jostle their packages as much. That's fine with me, but it sucks when they wait a few days & I need something asap. Usually if there is a delay I talk to them about letting me meet them in town to pick it up, but they don't always inform me. It's against their policy to not deliver some stuff on time but they don't care. My BIL used to work for FedEx in Albuquerque area & he told me about the rules there & said there was one place they weren't allowed to deliver to after dark- Meadow Lake neighborhood of Los Lunas. One of their drivers got carjacked there. I believe it may have been the incident my father told me about where a Chinese assassin (I know, sounds like a fiction but was no joke) attacked/killed the driver, stole the uniform & the truck, and used the guise to infiltrate the local prison to find a political prisoner inside to murder him. His location wasn't supposed to be known, but some jackhole in the press leaked that the inmate was being held there. By political prisoner, I mean it was someone who filed for asylum from China bc he was a political rival of the powers in China & they wanted him dead. Might have been 2 separate incidents though. My memory is fuzzy on a lot of stuff now.

Ah, the bureaucracy of the bean counters. Back when my father was a relatively new OIC (officer in charge) of an INS unit, he was informed that his office area didn't meet OSHA standards for minimum space requirements. He consulted engineers & found the blueprints to identify a non-loadbearing wall. He then contacted higher ups to have the wall removed. They told him they would get to it in 6 months. OSHA told him they would fine him for every single day that the space was too small & he couldn't just up & move. He told the higher ups that, but they didn't care (they would have penalized him/taken disciplinary action for his office getting fined but still wouldn't do anything to prevent it). So he got a sledgehammer, took the wall down himself, then called the higher ups to say there was a huge pile of debris & they needed to have their maintenance people come clean it up asap. They weren't happy about it, but it saved them $ on hiring contractors & the office wasn't getting fined.
Been somewhat productive. I did putty & touch-ups with the stain on my friend's cabinets & got the poly coat on. It's a single coat deal so I only had to do it once. We had a good laugh over how much the stuff looked like ejaculate. It coated well & is water resistant. Cabinets wipe down a lot easier. I had to scrub the older ones clean bc my friends didn't clean them first (I was a teeny bit miffed about that). Almost got nailed by the ceiling fan while doing the pantry but asked my friend to turn it off. Discovered that it just barely clears the top of the upper pantry door. Got most of them in one shot but had to wait to do the side of the pantry (needed to have touch-ups dry) and the corner cabinet (again, needed some touch-ups to dry) so I came back the next day & finished it off, then played with the kittens. I got them some toys-- only thing small enough for them were little poop emojis with ribbons. They seem to enjoy playing with them.
Ate waaaay too many chocolate chip cookies & fudge rounds so my stomach hates me. LOL.
Mom got some calls from Social Security to set up her benefits now that she's 70. She had put it off until that age because she'd been told she'd make more $ by waiting but apparently that changed. They said they found reference to my father's Army Reserve service but couldn't locate his records for active duty service in 'nam. Here's where the family curse kicks in (of weird unlucky things happening). So, he was told by the Army that his records were burned in a fire at the records facility BUT the online references all claim the fire didn't affect records from that date range. So either they just lost his records & lied, or more records burned than they were admitting. I think it may be the latter because that is just the sort of luck we have. They told Mom she needs his DD214s or something like that. I thought he had them (since he needed them to get his retirement benefits) but we have no idea where they are. I looked on his old hard drive (which I backed up on to mine) but only found the blank dd214 form. I know his MOS & the date he went in. I can find the date he was discharged too, but not sure quite how to find it without having to send all sorts of formal stuff in the mail.

To end on a happy note, here is a comparison between my vision for the cabinets in Sketchup & the actual cabinets after they were finished (well, almost-- toekick trim still needs to go in). Pretty damn close.

Thank you Zanne hubby deals with th defective parts pretty good most of the ime.
Thats a shame they won't release the paper work for your fatherws service.Have you done the cabinets yet?

I am already on a few meds for life...a couple more ain't gonna be a big deal..I'll take if I get to spend a few more years with my wife and kids.

The nurses.
I got to be the luckiest guy in the world ...or maybe not...my heart was running at 170 bpm when I came here...
Why does every nurse have to be 24-26 years old, long silky brunette or blonde, shaped like a Coke bottle, and talk like an angel.
Geeze.

And all single.

Gotta get home

Jim:D
They put those nurses in the heart unit to give you a reason to live... ;) When my daughter was born 2 1/2 months premature, we spent 7 weeks in the baby NICU. Most of those nurses were shaped more like bowling balls instead of coke bottles...😂

I stepped away for a day and you go off making trouble again. Quit it, Jim.
Glad you're doing so much better. The Good Lord was listening. Take care of yourself.

Zannej.
Might check your county courthouse records?
He might have registered them at the Records Department at the Courthouse.
I know when my dad, several Vietnam era veterans, myself included all registered our DD form 214 in case they were lost later.

MoBook are there any vet groups you know that may help find records like that? We have given to Paralized Veterans for decades now but last year stoppd just too busy so hope to pick back up when we cn afford.Send us really neat callendrs too.Miss not getting one this year.
But don't think they deal ith that kind of thign. Not sure.

Before I got home today.
Picked up Wal*Mart grocery order.
Picked up CSA box.
Checked mail.
Run several errands.
Got home this morning before 1030 am which is when dog walker was supposed to show up.
Got home met the maintenance guy at my parking space.
While I unloaded my Fiat, he fixed the fart fan in the bathroom.
Replaced the washer in the hand held shower head.
It leaked.
Replaced the washer in handle of facet of shower head.
This also leaked.
He fixed the thingabob's that hold the shelves up in kitchen cabinet.
Looked like little dowel rods plugs to me, but they broke off.
Got the groceries put away.
Got the contents of CSA box pretty much put away.
Cut up 10 pounds of chicken leg quarters into portion size meals for me.
Food Saver is trying to have a fit.
Either won't suck the air out.
Or not seal.
Fixed a pot of chicken vegetable soup for supper on low and slow in enamelware stockpot.
Got precooked rice dehydrating in the oven for homemade rice a roni.
Took 3 trips to unload my Fiat, but got it done.
Dog walker showed up 4 hours late again.
Fired him, because I had to reschedule lab work from this afternoon.
To Friday morning. And it's a fasting lab too.
Strawberry is happy to see me.
And my dang left foot still hurts, so foot is on ice pack.
I'm tired, slightly cranky, throbbing headache.
Just listening to silence
Thinking about hot shower, bed.
Strawberry is sticking to me like white on rice.
Prayers for all that need them
Everybody better get healthy.
Even too tired to cross stitch on the lion quilt block.

Hope you feel better after some rest.

You guys just can't stay out of trouble can you? I woke up when hubby was in Hospital after back surgery.I was on cot next to him making sure all was sterile so no infection. I wak up to see him looking up the dress of the nurse fixing the IV.I ask him if he found what he was looking for.He just said " what ,don't know what your talking about".

The nurse was wearing a skirt? Next time I need a doctor I'm going to your hospital... ;)

If I was him, I'd have feigned innocence and blamed it on the anesthesia...:ghostly:

Might try local VFW or American Legion to see if they can help you find his records.
They will probably have better luck with St Louis record archives than you will maybe.
The St. Louis Military Archive building did have a heck of a fire.
And a lot of records were lost.
Now everything is pretty much digital.
Otherwise, you will have to prove that he was in the Military.
Sometimes that's not easy to do.

Yes. I posted a new thread about my friend's renovation project with pics & such.

I'm on some military groups on FB. Particularly for the ASA (Army Security Agency). My father was in the ASA. The admins tried to find his records but didn't see them so they sent me a link. I need to find it again. Got distracted with all the stuff going on.

According to the official websites they say the records for Army were only lost for up to 1960 or so but my father joined in '64. I've seen people claiming anyone who says their records were burned that weren't in the timeframes on the website it means the person is lying. But he had photos, names, details, etc. I think that maybe some of the records after that time were destroyed too but they don't list them. Sort of like when vehicle mfrs don't list some vehicles as having recalls when they have the same defects as other models/years. He had to get letters from a few of his supervisors sent in to verify his service so he could gain rank in the Army Reserves. He retired as a Major. I know he signed up when he was 16 & they let him join a month after he turned 17 (November 1964) & he served until sometime in '68. He'd actually had a lot of his records & stuff restored BUT he had some of his medals & other stuff in his office at the Federal Prison during the Cuban Riots. BOP wouldn't put sprinklers in the INS offices so when the inmates torched the place, all of his stuff went up in flames- so he lost his records to fire TWICE. Which, is par for the course for my family. The military lost my medical records entirely while we were overseas.

I think my gastritis is acting up today. Stomach started feeling sour & then nausea hit. I've taken antacids & anti-gas stuff but it doesn't seem to work. Having chest pain from the gas sucks. But it also feels like my airway is tightening up & I'm having a little trouble breathing. Might be from irritation because I had to throw up earlier. It's not terrible but it is extremely annoying. My mom was worried because she offered me chocolate & I declined because of the nausea. I don't usually turn down chocolate. I think it's from eating too much junk food the past few days. The cat that woke me up when I was having a heart attack a few years back is sitting with me right now. I think he'll alert me if it's anything heart related.

I got the last of the corn planted last night after supper, still have cantaloupes, okra and peas to plant. To tired for that today.

Late this afternoon went to town for the folks, new prescriptions and groceries... My mom writes a grocery list using words to describe items that were used 50 years ago. She knows what she needs. I don't have a clue. I have to call her on the phone 3 to 4 times while I shop to get out of her what it is she wants... I keep telling her over and over... write down what is on the label of the item... frustrating.

I write my grocery list starting at the back of the store... paper products/cleaning and end at the front in the produce section/bakery... I never have to retrace my steps for anything... of course she doesn't do that either, no wonder it used to take her and dad two hours to get groceries! Treadmill test? They got one every friday.

I finished up around 6pm, had to get fast food for supper. Quiet evening watching tv when I go home.

Wednesday we cut some more iron bark firewood and here is what we cut and stacked and these are huge logs -

firewood 20th May.JPG

Firewood cut on Monday was -

18th May firewood.JPG

We now have 4 rows of firewood we have cut so far being about 6 cubic metres of iron bark but sadly with the rain today it will probably be next week before we can get to cutting more as we will sink in the river silt on this property with driving across it with firewood. Even idling a car on the dirt here when it rains turns it into instant quicksand and you sink up to the axles if you break the top layer of the soil  .

And today being Thursday we did -

We woke up to glorious rain that came after we went firewood cutting yesterday right through the night last night too :) . We had a few cups of hot chocolate to wake up.

Since it was wet outside we decided more decluttering and cleaning was in order and this time it was the rumpus room.

DH had put every tool known to mankind in the sliding cupboards down there and he couldn't find a thing as it was all over the place. I had purchased him small tool boxes previously and labelled what was in them which he kept in another shed.

We had put a spare large kitchen cupboard down there we removed from the kitchen when we put in our stove this year and deemed that would be the tool cupboard when DH had time to sort out the tools.

We pulled everything out of the cupboards and I swept them out with the dustpan and brush and wiped them out with soapy water to clean them including the doors and tracks. While I did that DH went to the shed and got the toolboxes out of the shed and brought them into the back room and I gave them all a wipe over with soapy water on the outside.

DH sorted out what tools he wanted to keep in there and sorted them out into the tool boxes, some boxes and baskets and put them in the cupboard. He also sorted out a pile of other items to go back to the sheds in boxes as well as cleaned off the large wooden table down there.

While he sorted the tools I gave all the other cupboards down there a good clean with soapy water as well as the table, skirting boards in the rumpus room, bathroom and laundry, stair rails, doors, door handles and door surrounds a good clean. All up we spent 2 hours on the decluttering, cleaning and putting things away.

This will leave the large sliding cupboards down there to store blankets and quilts and spare tea towels, towels and sheet sets.

We still need to take the boxes down to the shed as well as rolls of fly screen and shade cloth as it is still raining so we will continue tomorrow on that.

DH is now trench composting the vegetable scraps in the gardens and we will then wash up the dishes, dry them and put them away.

Dinner tonight was rump steak and steamed homegrown and frozen vegetables.

It is a pain to have tools all over the place, LL. I did a two day major sort around here last month. And threatened our son and grandkids with their lives to put tools back where they belong. They tend to leave them outside and then they get rusted out, and I get mad.
Someone coming by this morning to pick up a Phoenix Rooster (free), our last adult chicken. Still have a dozen chicks for sale, and more hatching this weekend. Workman coming to install a water softener, and another to fix the automatic garage door openers. I think they're fixing, and not just looking today. That happens a lot around here. Look three times, eventually fix in a week or two. Husband didn't sleep well after starting rehab again yesterday, so I maybe got a few hours of sleep. Might work on painting granddaughters room. Or not. Need more coffee.

I did that when I was growing up. My dad was constantly gripping about his tools lost or left on the ground. as a kid. I ignored him.
THEN. after I got out of the service I bought a nice craftsman tool box with all the bells and whistles. I was very proud of what I had. on the way home I swung by Pops house to crow about my new tools.
pop looked in the back of the truck and said I will be right back. He came back with a master lock. and locked my box. told me that this should just about replace all the tools of his that i lost and said thank you.
LOL..Old BUZZARD !!!
Well. Nothing I could do or say. right is right and he was right.
He never mentioned it and i never did either. after he Died I found my tool box in his shed with that same lock on it. all the tools in it brand new

Mama use to drive me nuts on grocery trips [ but I sure do miss her and would love to take her grocery shopping one more time .] She would go from one store to the next to save 10 cent on a box of crackers,etc.. Then once in the store she had to read every item in the store,or touch it at least. I think its been passed down to me,now I'm doing it! Hubby will say " you missed inspecting one of the 50,000 items ".:sarcasm:

My mom still does that Meer. And she talks to everyone in the store. For a long time. If you let her go with it, she'll be in for hours. Her deceased jerk of a husband was worse. They would split up, and he would see how many ladies he could hug or kiss. You couldn't bring him anywhere. My girls were always told to stay away from him.
Garage door guy reconnected our openers, realigned, serviced our 25 yr old 2 1/2 car garage doors. Was amazed they worked. We haven't used them for over 20 yrs, so I don't see why they wouldn't. Nice guy. The water softener guy is now here installing the new stuff, and our water will be turned off for a long while. Still waiting on rooster pickup lady. She's traveling a good hr to come get him. Husband is on a conference call, so no noise or vacuuming.

I'm on my way home.
Got to stop and pick up something to eat.
Here's breakfast today

A pile of yellow poo,
And the bottom of my shoe.

It tasted worse than it looks.

Jim

Jim it will just make the food at home taste that much better. So glad your out and going home, can't wait till you tell us about Doogan.

This is going to sound silly coming from a man who earned his living with tools, even flying with them to other countries. But… In recent years I’ve come up with basic system for storing tools that works well.

4 tool bags… 1) pointy things, screw drivers, putty knife, box cutters, chisels, punches etc. 2) squeezy things, pliers, wire cutters, channel locks, vice grips, adjustable wrenchs etc. 3) electrical things, multimeter, amp meter wire, spare bulbs, electrical tape, tie wraps etc. 4)wrench bag, both metric & std wrench sets, small socket set, metric & std allens, 2 small plastic containers with specialty tools/items.

I have lots of tools in the shop (tractor repairs or engine changes) and in the indoor tool room (small engine repair, winter projects) but the 4 bags are mobile. I toss the first 2 bags in the vehicle I need to drive that day for normal errands/shopping in town. All 4 bags go in a vehicle when I’m going more than 40miles from home. All 4 bags can be used in the shop or indoor tool room.

There are a few redundant items in the bags and locations, I keep electrical tape, tie wraps and knives or box blades everywhere. All 4 bags are different colors, yellow/pointy, tan/squeezy, red/electrical, bluegrey/sets.

The 4 bags make me mobile for just about any thing that comes up yet still be highly organized at the same time. I can rewire or install a new outlet in the house or repair a busted hay baler in the field. The only thing I have to decide is which bags to grab, squeezy, pointy, electrical or sets. Being mobile and organized is difficult but this approach works for me.
