The worst part about cats is they are all Democrats.
Most of them don't have a job, they lay around the house all day and prowl the streets at night, you provide their healthcare, food, housing, and entertainment.
Some of them may even vote, with democrats you never know for sure. :p

Not sure about this. Most cats don't live to see 18 so they are not the age of majority to vote.

Plus our cats are indoor only so they qualify for SSD as shut ins among other issues. Seb is cross eyed and mostly deaf. Bailey has an eating disorder. Alice is narcoleptic. Lilli Bare is anthropophobic with bad social anxiety. Turkish is still a kid at 18 months old and clearly has ADHD.

Just wait until your not feeling well and they come a curl up on you. That warm purring massage puts you to sleep and makes you feel better when you wake up.
That is so true! I had the flu in February and I had one or the other cat right there with me for days. Sometimes both of them would be with me, just not in the same space because they don't really like each other. Sick, sad, off in some way, they know. Love cats.

I was brought up to hate cats by my mother that had a bad experience as a youth but I could soften on them since I end up being "The great white mouse Hunter" when the weather turn cold.

If they could be toilet trained then they wouldn't stink.

My mom never let me have cats or keep the strays that sometimes wandered into the yard. I was almost 40 when I got my first cat and I've had one ever since. Their boxes do stink even when cleaned every day but I keep their boxes and food on the basement level of the house so the main living floors are not disturbed by them. Their food stinks too.

Neb, they actually can be toilet trained! I have a friend who had a cat that used the humans' toilet. FOR REAL. No litter box required!

Try a stainless steel litter box. We noticed the smell stopped since we made the change. The smell is from the cats scratching the plastic of their boxes and the urine and poop getting stuck in there.

I feed our cats raw rabbit or duck so the food smell isn't there either. The higher quality of food the less stinky poop and less stinky food smells.

Trust me on this. We have 5 cats.

It requires a long training time and they can have accidents if the lid is closed or the loo is occupied.

Thank you I'll try a stainless box if I can find one. We feed ours vacuum sealed packs of tuna. It smells but not nearly as bad as wet cat food.

I got our stainless litter boxes from Amazon. They are pricey for a litter box but then think of it as the last one you will ever buy. I only have one plastic box left to replace and so far I love the stainless ones way better! No litter sticks to the box like cement when you scoop.

I wanted to add we use Healthy Habitat spray by Natural Chemistry to clean the boxes when we change out the litter. It is recommended for small animal cages and reptile enclosures so why not cat boxes?! Seriously I love this company's products. They do what they say and are decently priced.

If you use a clay based litter that can also cause major smell issues with the boxes. I prefer a paper based clumping litter but the brand we use to use no longer makes it so we use the World's Best Cat Litter. Corn based and the lavender scented one really does help with odors. A large bag is $30 but I can use it to fill all our 7 boxes and have enough left over to top off the boxes down the road.

You learn a thing or two when you have 5 cats and still foster more.

Then there's the Earnest Hemingway House in Key West FL... They have 54 cats living there that have 6 toes on each of their feet... 54 cats with birth defects? Wonder how much SSI they get for that?

There is even a cat cam so people can watch them all day. Evidently some people have way to much time on their hands.

I love Hemingway cats! That is what a polydactyl cat is called. I have never had one but I would love too! There is something about toe beans that drives me nuts. Extra toe beans means extra nuts!

We put in a pet door so our cats are inside / outside catz. No litter box, they go outside for that.
The Calico fought us (poop in house) for a box inside. After we made her stay out from spring till fall she got the idea.
Lucky for us she wants to be an inside cat. Unlucky for us we have a Calico...
Somebody put a BELL on her. After I removed it she wouldn't leave. 😿

Technically she is a tortie not a calico. A calico has three colors in very distinct and defined patches. A tortie has muddled colors and patches. I have a tortie too. Alice.

I thought she was a Tortoiseshell Calico so I looked it up. Now I know more about my most troublesome cat and she's not a Calico after all.
Thanks, I learned something today.

Please don't think I was trying to burst your bubble.

I have a second tortie named Lilli Bare. She is a Russian Blue dilute tortie. Semi feral.

No I didn't think that. All information is good.
All my tortie does is eat or sleep and not even in my lap. (Sleep I mean).

Mag

Alice is too chubby to sit in my lap. She does like to cuddle. Lilli is the shy cat. She only wants me to pet her but on her terms. All of our cats except one are over 10 years old so they just eat and sleep too. ;)

Cats are active at the magic hour- just before dawn and just at dusk. Plus some need toys to be who they truly are. All of our seniors like playing with toys and not just the catnip ones. I have toys with rattles, crinkle paper and bells.

Very cute kitties, y'all.
So guess why I'm up. Yes, kitty, meowing in the hall for a long time. I went out to kitchen with her, sometimes she'll need kibble, yes, at 4 a.m. No, all was fine. Or sometimes she wants me to WATCH HER EAT! No. I think she wanted treats. No, not doing that. So I fell asleep in a kitchen chair, she fell asleep by my feet. Back to bed with my door open and I never let her come in but making exceptions now. I think she's having health problems.

My ex and I had two cats. She took them when we split up. After she moved out the cats started fighting so I took the female back. A year later I started traveling for work, so my pops took her in whenever I was gone. My mom absolutely detests house cats. Guess who that stupid cat claimed as her person? That's right, the woman who hated her. After a few months that cat was sleeping by my mom's feet on their bed and getting treats under the kitchen table. Cats are evil little con artists...

I went out to hang laundry today and a really big rat snake came across the grass right near me. Went up to our front porch planters. JayRod, the cat was asleep in the rocker and jumped down and kept watch over it while it was in the planter. I'd look out the window, and he sat guard. The snake took off after awhile, and the kids saw it go into the milkhouse. I need to paint the inside of the milkhouse. Maybe JayRod will come with me.

they make such cute noises, @Spikedriver who can resist?
Ours says, "morale?"
And when she's running and knows you've gotten something yummy out of the fridge, she will do this meowing that has all this purring in it. cracks me up.
She makes funny noises while watching birds if I say her name. Kind of like, "met met met"
Since she's getting older, we try not to sneak up behind her anymore. Any cat can jump straight up in the air when spooked.

Back in 2004 I was renting an old acreage and a friendly blue/cream tabby stray adopted me. She made that same "met met" sound when she was mad. The neighbors down the road had an enormous tomcat named Killer that would visit every couple weeks and she would attack him every time I petted him and she always made that sound right before she swatted him on the head...
