Feverfew

Several years ago, I purchased plant starts that I believe were called "Tennessee Walking Ferns." I have searched the internet for that name and never been able to find anything that resembles the plants I have. I recently added a plant app to my phone and decided to find out what this plant is called. Feverfew! I did a search for that term online and sure enough, that is what I have growing in my yard. The crazy thing is that feverfew is on the list of herbs I looked for this year, with zero luck finding it.

When I first got this plant, I planted it in my back yard. It has spread every year. We have used it for a background flower in bouquets and vases of flowers we give away. It is super easy to grow. Now I need to figure out how to use it as an herb.

It would be good to have it growing like a weed, Weedy! I had it all over the place in my yard back east too. Love It! I never made any tinctures with it. It is pretty as a filler in bouquets or alone. Smells funny!

Feverfew has a long history in herbal medicine... a use new to me... for migraine headaches, didn't know this until recently.

Feverfew is also known by the names Chrysanthemum parthenium and Pyrethrum partheniumm, emphasis on the word Pyrethrum... a common insect repellent. Yet another use for this plant. Smells funny huh?

Long ago Vicks Vapor rub contained pyrethrum. It can derived from several plants, the most common of which is Feverfew.

I saw the migraine treatment in my reading about it. The leaves can be used for tea, but are bitter. It said to mix the leaves with a few other things, such as mint, lemon verbena.

I have attended some Weston Price meetings. There are two people in my neighborhood who are also participants, and they both walk by my house regularly. When the feverfew was blooming in the spring, one of them said something about my chamomile, because the flowers resemble chamomile flowers. Sorry, that is not chamomile, the bugs ate my chamomile. When I realized it was feverfew, I sent him a text and told him to come and get some. He was at the Weston Price meeting that met at the medicinal garden last year and was excited at the possibility of getting some feverfew for his yard. He told me he had just been discussing feverfew with someone else in the neighborhood.

I have had things that multiply in the yard until I have to divide them and give some away: day lilies, iris, grape hyacinth. I put them in a box with a sign and it all goes away. I think I will do this with the feverfew. Most things end up in brown lunch bags so people can grab one and go. These seed heads are much smaller. I didn't know what it was before, so didn't realize the value.

That's odd, your link said another name for feverfew is bachelor's buttons but I'm familiar with bachelor's buttons that look like this:
