Spent half of today scrubbing out the upstairs. I am convinced the grandkids think they live in a barn. Reunion tomorrow, and part one of company staying for the week the next day. Husband and I tend to live downstairs, so the upstairs can get away from me really quick. Taking an iced tea break with old man cat and then onwards to clean the downstairs which is no where near as bad as upstairs was. The place we rented for the reunion tomorrow just tried to call and cancel because the air con went out. Ha Ha Ha. I told them I'd bring portables if I need to. Calling relatives and their relatives and so on and leaving messages in phone shacks is not going to cut it. So they called back and said the repair guy will be there in the morning, and hopefully have it fixed by noon. It's supposed to be 100 tomorrow. We do have two portables, they're just heavy to tote around. Mom called this morning and forgot about the reunion and wanted me to take her places today. Then said that she didn't want to go tomorrow because she won't know anybody. ???? The oldsters are arriving at 3 p.m and we're having snacks and visiting, and taking a tour through my great grandpa Shem Yoder's house. The younger groups are coming at 5 for the pot luck supper. Mom then said she can help with the history of the house, and help me set up snacks, so now she's coming. What a weirdo.

Got an eye doctor check behind me with just an adjustment to correct for my double vision. Submitted my paper work for a new passport. Not that we have plans for international travel but I don't trust government now or in the future.

Did some planning with my brother for the remodeling project. I have some stuff to do. I did point out to him that a year ago we were still excavating the basement. "We've come a long way baby!"

I did get some more insulation installed despite the 90 degree heat.

I did get through the first book on steam governors. I will be shooting for a centrifugal governor that will control the steam delivered to the engine. The other governors types act on the valve timing and stroke and require a major change to the eccentrics that control the valves.

That's progress!

It was a maintenance day at work today. My particular piece of equipment is much like a newer car, in that everything is controlled by ECMs and there are sensors everywhere. Even the hydraulic cylinders have DIN cables so the computer knows the exact position of the cylinder rod. Of course all of this requires many yards of wiring and many connections. Did I mention that there was a heavy two inch rain yesterday? All those connections were full of water. When I fired up the machine all the functions went crazy and it started doing things I wasn't telling it to do. Long story longer, several parts got broken when they slammed into each other and I don't have the replacements on hand. Even after blowing out all the connections and packing them with fresh silicone sealant, nothing works. The workheads are dead. I'm not even sure I can safely travel up the ramp onto the train. I think I'm in for a rough week...

InResponse, you're doing a lot better than I did after my appendectomy. I was literally bedridden for 2 weeks after. They told me my appendix wasn't quite in the right spot so they had to dig deeper and it really messed up my insides. It hurt to move my right leg for a month. It didn't help that I'd been so sick before the surgery so I was still weakened. It was right before my finals in high school too. Most of my teachers were super nice about it though.

I went to the store today to pick up mom's RX. Lady in line in front of me was telling me her grandson had Covid & how he'd been sent to school by his parents while he felt sick and that the next day he had a high fever and got sent home. Got tested for Covid and was positive so he was in quarantine. A friend who works at the store told me that the pharmacy was shut down yesterday because all of the employees scheduled to work then were out due to Covid. Deli is shut down entirely because all of the deli staff have Covid. They have customers coming in without masks, refusing to put them on, and then screaming in employee's faces, refusing to leave, and threatening employees-- but the cops won't remove them or help because they don't believe in wearing masks & refuse to wear them inside too. IMO, when someone crosses the line and starts screaming in an employee's face & threatening them, they should be removed. Don't like the rule, go somewhere else, but don't scream at & threaten the poor underpaid employee who is only trying to do their job.

As an aside, I saw a lady who had a mask on but had it dropped down on her chin because she was sucking on a lollipop. It looked funny for some reason.

Also, on my previous visit to the store, a small child had a pool noodle (her parents were getting a few). After sparring pool noodles with her dad for a bit, she set sight on me and whacked me in the sternum (didn't hurt). Her mother was horrified but I held my chest and said "A mortal wound!" and the mother relaxed.

I hope she is feeling better. Talked to one of my cousins this evening about his dad (Uncle Melvin). He broke his hip for the second time a few weeks ago, but is healing, and hopefully he can be moved from the medical unit to the assisted living unit so I can visit him. He'll miss the reunion tomorrow and he's our oldest relative. One of his boys will be coming to photograph it for him. Mom called this evening to ask me what I said we were going to be doing tomorrow. Geesh.

Today is going to be a slow day. I am trying to slow down the wife, she want to do everything at one time (but she doesn't have the horse power). I think this evening is going to be making chicken stock again... She wanted to can chicken soup but I told her that that the mess from the stock will make canning the soup problematic. Plus we need to get her ready for a Thursday morning Doctor's appointment.

They said my appendix was in a different spot but it actually made the surgery easier for them as it was closer to where they came from with the probe. In hindsight there were many signs to the infected appendix. I just thought they were all acting up on their own but they were all reacting on their own to the infection of the appendix. I am guessing it may be a couple more weeks before I get to feeling good with normal energy.

I'm glad you got it taken care of before it could get worse or rupture, Inresponse. I know that I was feeling really run down. I had passed out on the weekend, had a fever, and generally felt crappy. When I looked back on old photos I had lost a lot of weight and looked very pale. I am normally pale, but my skin had an unhealthy shade. I hope you recover quickly.

I found a cutting attachment for my Matrix that I was afraid I'd lost. I am going to look for some other tools and see if I can motivate myself to get up and grab some boards from the workshop, set up the saw table, and see if I can cut the boards to mount my new monitor. I've put it off too long. I think if I use a square as a straight edge I might be able to cut straight. Need to cut the board to 36" to span the studs, putting screws 2" in from the sides to hit the center of the studs.

Long days and short nights~ Hubby leaves tomorrow to go hunting for 10 days. We've only been apart for that long one other time in over 10 years. They got the jeep all put back together and something is going on with the ignition - has 12v crank down to .3. Checked battery etc. so decided just to get a new ignition. I talked to him about an hour ago and they were just putting it back together. He wants to take it hunting. Last night worked on a beam to install this morning. Got home about quarter to 7 then back out of the house by quarter to 6 this morning. I have a stupid Bose speaker that is blue-tooth. It started talking at 11:43PM & woke me up. I am going to see if I can return it for a wired model. This thing will try to connect in the middle of the night and talk loudly despite what the volume is set at and that there is nothing on to connect to  So short on sleep also resulting in a headache. I came home drank a bunch more water and took a couple advil and am starting to feel better. Have a feeling it will be another late night packing for Hubby. He doesn't plan ahead very well & only so much I can do for him.

Easy morning at work and got a fair amount done. Then at 230 our supervisor meeting started. First thing out of the bosses mouth, most likely DOE is gonna push down mandate for taking the VAX as a condition of employment. Looks like I'm gonna have a BIG decision to make.
After work went and picked up some food and dropped off with my parents. Mom had a bad day today. Hope tomorrow is much better. She goes back to Dr on Friday

busy day off. nothing interesting to yall. Post office, camera parts, checking in with a fellow forum member about my pitiful telescope. Planning a trip.
One of the kids is packing up and moving out. This is progression. Another one leaving next month for college.
Edit to add: prayers for your mom, Bacpacker.
And sorry to hear about your job's issues. That sucks. Nobody has said much to me.

Made 5th trip in 2 weeks to husbands doctor and 3 trips to another city to help 90 yr old momma to move her at her choice into nice retirement home. 8 trips at 110 miles round trip. Work 29 hours a week in town. 11 miles from house to stop sign in town takes me 20 minutes to drive 4 days a week and again on Sunday. Granddaughter just called to invite me to her Baptism this Sunday. 45 minute drive to that church. Yesterday ate brunch at Cracker Barrel after Dr. appointment. Looked over cast iron and found 1 loaf pan. Snagged it. At academy I found a velcro waist wrap for conceal carry and a double pack of quick clot. Husband said I didn’t need it after I got it. I have packing gauze and a tourniquet already for first aid kit and suture kit. Coons beat me to chicken coop Monday night and got all my eggs. Told him tonight about possible shortages coming and he said he heard it n news. Maybe hope for hm to stop living from day to day. Married 48 years now. Oh and they moved his mom into secure unit in Nursing home from regular room. Hear it was bad today.

Today, we have a 08:00 doctors appointment for the wife's bad foot. The appointments usually take about 45 minutes, but when you add loading and unloading her gear, making the go-bag up, moving the oxygen and wheel chair to the car, 45 minute drive in rush hour each way... should take care of most of the morning....

Yesterday we made more chicken stock, but the clean up was not completed, so that gives me something to do when we get home.... tonight we should be canning chicken something... it all becomes a blur and I have to refer back to my check list.

I got a delivery of rice yesterday, the boxes looked like they just flew over and dropped them out of an airplane... when I saw the boxes dropped in several places between the door and the sidewalk it reminded me of the seen from "Air America" where they were dropping food on the village. Then again at 50 pounds a box I can see the poor UPS guy just saying, "I give up" after the first box or 2..... THE UPS MAN Hates me - he has delivered everything from a case of projectiles (small box - really heavy - think lead bricks) to tires and wheels (tire rack) - that was funny, I watched him throw one off the truck and it took off down the hill, he was chasing and cussing and then about half a city block away it hit a car and set off it's alarm. He was trying to act so, "nothing to see here" and push that puppy back up the hill... Yes, He HATES me....

The FedEx delivery guy for my area is lazy. He doesn't even bring stuff to my sidewalk. He leaves stuff behind my truck or just randomly out in the yard over 50ft away from the house. Some of the stuff got rained on. I realize it's hot, but it wouldn't kill him to get it a few feet over to my sidewalk instead of directly behind my truck where I can run it over if I don't see it (and that did happen before- he put it where my backup camera couldn't see it).

I'm trying to wake myself up and get ready for a dental appointment I need to leave before 11 because it takes over an hour to get there.

Apparently, I was busy yesterday as I never got on this forum.

Yesterday, walked first.
Went to Walmart. Good news is that all the frozen and refrigerated cases that were down are now up and running. Tomato products like stewed tomatoes and diced tomatoes were low, I got the last case of each--left a couple of cans for others. I got one case of wide mouth pints and several Golden Harvest lids (yay). Other stuff I got is for fundraiser at Church.
Repackaged some sliced ham.
Cooked Sausage and eggs for DH for future breakfasts.
Baked chicken, spinach, stewed tomatoes with a little parmesan for my future breakfasts--have bloodwork in about 3 weeks and want cholesterol within limits so backing off the eggs for now.
Prayer meeting in the evening.

Walked first this morning and then dogs.
Prepped and PC'd chicken livers with bacon and onions- still going.
Still have to do eBay photos.
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Good to "see" you, snappy. I'm glad they got the refrigerated compartments working again.

Went to my dental appointment. My bp was a little high because I'd just been stuck behind a cement truck going 30mph in the 60mph zone and was aggravated. LOL. Everything went well. Dr. Honey did an amazing job with my broken tooth. I can't even tell it was ever broken-- and it had a whole big chunk missing. It's so nice not to have that big gap anymore. Mouth is still half numb so I have to wait to eat though.

Looks like a hurricane might be coming our way though so I'll need to make sure we have enough water and stuff. Mom had apparently wanted me to get some stuff but was too tired to tell me when I asked.

Worked today. Freakin' hot here, I'm tellin' ya! Can't stand it. Lots of stuff going on at home and afar.
Just tryin' to keep my head down and focus on what's in front of me and maybe distract myself from the troubles.
Hope everything works out to be a blessing 🍡 Here's an ice cream to help you cool off.

We made an offer on another 21+ acres and it was accepted. Now we have to go down to the city to find a notary. We'll do that on our way south from the dog trainer (Mon & Tues) on our way down to the Kids Dr. apt on Wed. I'm not going to be back home until Thursday.

Your right @Angie. I may just pass myself on the hwy one of these days.😆

Stopped by the store on the way home for a meat run. Walked most every isle and they were pretty well stocked. Canned goods most meats, bread, chips. Not many holes or this areas I noticed. But my god prices were awful.

Had another meeting at work today, right after we got an email from the director informing everyone of how great the vax is and how bad the unvaxxed were to the others. As of Oct 15 everyone will be fully vaxxed, or "HR will assist us in transitioning from the lab". Big decision I've got to make. I sure would appreceiate everyones prayers in dealing with this.

We were both exposed before the second shot.
Second shot takes two weeks to be effective.

They told us that our condition now is being helped by the first shot to a degree.

It ain't fun.

Jim
My brorher @Firepolice271 lived with 3 infected people and showed no signs. Got his first and was in bed for 10 days. Got the second and was out for about a week.

May God smile on you and yours. The timing is not good for your move etc.

Ben

Jim I recommend request getting the antibody infusion. Helped the wife a great deal when she had it.
