How've you been? was wondering... saw you logged last night...

How are those owls? still washing your tractor>

How are you? I’ve sort of caught up on posts but not completely.

I wanted to check on everyone here with the hurricane. Was worried about everyone. Looks like so far everyone is above ground and doesn’t seem to have seen a ton of damage. That’s a great thing.

Still hanging in there here. een rough here. Things have gotten bad and dangerous with the “neighbor”. Continuation of the rant thread from previous posts.

Been busy with the fires again this season. Nothing to close to us so far but have had family to worry about. The smoke has been pretty bad again too. Our hunting area has completely burned. Year 3 of loosing our tags due to fire. Think we’re on 8 years or so now of no hunting. Can’t remember for sure at this point. Really needed that trip this year. We’re also trying to get our ranch listed and sold. Find a new place to call home. We’ve decided Missouri just haven’t found the right place yet. I’m beyond ready.

This time of year daddy owl is the only one who’s here. He’s still here sleeping in the hay barn during the day. He’s so calm around us. I can climb to the top of the stack anymore and knock down bales and he just barely opens one eye to watch me. I’m really going to miss them.
Tractor is getting its baths. Definitely. Very happy it’s paid off now. Now the fun of getting it to the new place when we get that far.

Need a new cell phone, face is separating from the phone.
My home internet is out for the week
Some one cut the hard line and do not know when it will be repaired
When it rains it pours, my son can not believe I have an IPhone 6.

It's hard to believe you're still having to deal with that idiot neighbor. But then again you are in CA. Around here he'd have been dealt with the first week. He'd have decided living any where else was a very good idea.

Listed and Selling? That's great news! All of it a great pain but I think you'll be happy out of that state. I don't see CA being a good place to live for decades to come. It'll take years to straighten out that mess.

My brother has an iPhone 6 and it stopped working. He has insurance on it so he called for a new phone. They would not update his phone and sent him a refurbed iPhone 6. He even told them he would pay the difference.

Yeah, that what they do. My son went on carriers site & they have iPhone 11 for $10.00 a month no interest or $16.00 a month no interest.
So I thinking it the best deal, 12 Max (the best on market) is $32.00 a month, to rich for my blood. It worth it if you live though your phone, but I rather get tools for the farm or a good steak.

I don't get the new phone thing... Do they make peoples voices sound better?

I still have an SJ-3 samsung I got 4 years ago. It was the cheapest one WM had. The only reason I got it instead of another flip phone was it had a camera I wanted to try. Camera wasn't great so next I'll get another flip phone if one can be found.

It’s been a lost cause. Even threatening harm he’s allow to get away with in this state. It’s been an unreal experience. He literally screams go ahead and call the sheriff they won’t do anything to him. He can do whatever he wants. And sadly he’s right.
Well listing is the first step. Selling will be great. I have wanted out for years. We’re just able to now and have more reason to do it no matter what. CA hasn’t been a good place in a long time.

I just upgraded from my iphone5 earlier this year. The new ones have all sorts of bluetooth capabilities and gaming things - I don't use any of that so it really didn't matter, but the old phone that I got second hand was having issues. I will say the new phones take much nicer pictures. I do use that button.

It’s been a lost cause...... .....CA hasn’t been a good place in a long time.

You are so right, the last time I lived out there was about 25yrs ago, San Mateo. Even the local news was so PC it was nauseating. I'd go out and meet people socially and regret having bothered, pc idiots. The apartment building I lived in was completely filled with PC people trying to out PC each other.

Stemming from words exchanged about my gas guzzling full sized pickup I bought a gun-rack for the back glass. I didn't even mount it properly, just duct taped it in position. I think I p#$%*$ every one in the apartment complex. I used to get post it notes on my windshield that read "Bambi Killer". The rack didn't even have a gun in it! Yet angered a couple hundred people! (I loved it!).

Even then I could see that locals were completely detached from reality. I wanted out of CA asap, took me another year to get myself transferred back east.

I agree, but I have to get another phone, so I am going to a up grade so
I will not have to deal with this problem for years if ever again.
The cost is the same for all the I phones when you go though a carrier.
I phone 11 is 1/3 of the cost from a store, which can be $800 or more.
Hopefully I will not need a new phone for years, the one I have is eight years old now.

@Peanut Honestly that doesn’t really surprise me for the Bay Area. We‘ve been in a rural area so a lot didn’t effect us like that. However town has made its way over the years and so has all the wacko’s from the Bay Area. It hasn’t been home in years. We’ve wanted out for a long time it just wasn’t possible. Were making it happen now. Just scary trying to figure out how. Especially when we’re looking so far away. We just want to be in a place that’s like what we used to have but with better politics.

Missouri sounds like a good place for you, Erica. (Iowa's even better though!😉) Hope you can get that move made real quick!

Thank you. 🤗 We’ve debated where, have done a ton of research and decided Missouri will be home. Iowa was on the list but didn’t win out. The ozarks are calling. Hoping to find our forever home Very soon. We’re ready. This area is all I’ve known. Scary but hopefully exciting times ahead.

With the high cost of housing in CA you may be able to trade up.

Nice

This is a possibility but there is a huge boom of prices where we’ve been looking. Ridiculous increases. Not sure how it will play out. Very hard to even have a chance so far away but we’re trying to figure it out.

No doubt. But in Iowa at least, housing in cheap. Land is expensive. Farmland is selling up around $14,000 an acre now. Not good if you're looking to buy 40 and put down roots...

Holy cow! Yes we’re looking for acreage but it does appear it’s not cost effective to buy land and build our house, barns and outbuildings. Far cheaper for some reason to buy land with those things already on it.

How many acres are you looking for? Southern Iowa/North Missouri might be what you're looking for. It's rolling land, with more timber on the slopes, and not as good for farming. Around Trenton, Missouri the area is called "The Green Hills" because it is just that - lush and hilly. I'm not sure what the land sells for now, but it's a lot less than where I live, and it's good for livestock. There's a lot of Amish down there, just for that reason...

@Double R almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growing like the breeze
All four seasons
Dito that!

SW PA is effectively WV.

Flat bottom land is scarse and subject to flooding. But the the hollars are prime for orchards, vineyards, or nut groves.

Currently we’re looking for 40ish acres. We haven’t really set a firm amount. We’ve been looking more towards Missouri/Arkansas border way. No neighbors within ear shot. I’m done with closer neighbors. Some open land for cattle but definitely want trees on some.

Old life is what we miss. Also after being in CA all our lives we are paying close attention to politics and state growth. We do not want to have the same situation happen where we move that we’ve faced here.

I've considered Arkansas and West Virginia. Yet here I still am in Texas.

I hated living in Louisville for 2 years. The rest of the state wasn't bad, but IMO the state government was screwed up. Maybe just a lot different than what I was used too. Most of the state is beautiful

Every state has its Enema insertion point...Louisville is Kentuckys.

No big city for me ...anywhere.

Jim

Paducah is just a blip on the map...that wants to be a city.

When have you ever seen PADUCAH KY on national news (other than quilt show).

Its even too big for me.
But they got 2 good hospitals.

Jim
It's been 28 years since I've been there, and I was just passing through. Mostly I recall gas stations at the off ramps, and that's about it. Kind of like Albert Lea, Minnesota or Bethany, Missouri or any number of Midwestern middle size towns...
