In a cabin, on a mountain, in "Wilderness" Alaska.
So I believe I have a substantial void in consumable fats inventory. I notice I need to purchase more fiber and fat for "Relatively Long" storage.

The human body needs fat regardless what the health-nuts say.
Corn can be your friend.
The fat content of corn ranges from 5–6%, making it a low-fat food (1Trusted Source, 5).

However, corn germ, an abundant side-product of corn milling, is rich in fat and used to make corn oil, which is a common cooking product.
If your diet has no fat, your body must harvest stored fat from your body formed by the carbs and starches you consumed.
If you are fat, this is a bonus.
If you are like me, (hanging on to every pound I have for dear life:oops:) it isn't good.:(

How long does canned salmon last on the shelf?
I have a case coming in every two weeks. Currently coming in has best by date: JUNE 2026

I bury about half of it, it does not freeze, by is always in the high 39's to low 40's so I figure at least 6 to 10 years.

Ok, chocolate buttery eggs for breakfast!! Goin' for it!!🤪👍😃🙄
Rub it in, forgot my damn glasses again. :p

Hum... Now you got me wondering. Aztecs mixed coca powder with chili powder as a condiment....

I've had good luck storing olive oil for 5-7 years in our root cellar (which stays in the 50-55 degree range). The larger metal containers definitely do best, with tinted glass bottles doing OK, and clear plastic doing the worst. Ghee (clarified butter available in Indian food stores) also stores well due to it's lack of water and being pretty much pure oil. Freezing sticks of butter is another way to go, as is raising sunflowers and having a press to extract the oil.

Tallow is decent but you can only get it at the Asian markets.

Did you guys know that olive oil stored in clay pots in King Tut's tomb was still edible? so was the honey and some of the grain still sprouted!

Olive oil must be stored in dark glass containers, sunlight can make it go bad quickly. Avocado oil is good and so is grape seed oil, grape seed is good for frying as it has a high smoke temp and it doesn't have harmful things in it like I've read that Canola has.

Tree nuts are one of the best sources and keep a long time in sealed containers. Kind of expensive though.

Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are also good sources.
Explains why they went from pull top cans to the cardboard things.
