Every night the critters try and dig into the chickens house. They dig down to the rebar I buried. I’m thinking about pouring a couple foot of concrete around it and calling it done.

I stacked rocks around the perimeter, I have rocks :D. There is also chain link fencing under the coop, They are gonna need some really good wire cutters :)

I assembled the mini greenhouse. I put asparagus in it. I started them from seed. I'm not sure what I'm doing but it's hard to find crowns here. Anyway I put bricks filled with concrete in each corner, although I am not sure that it will work. I also tucked in that part that is sticking out. I out a brick there too.View attachment 96307View attachment 96308
I used bricks in the corners and around the outside bottom on my little walk-in greenhouse like yours. The ones on the outside are right up against the plastic and are end-to-end all the way around it.

My shoulder was better yesterday but now after sleeping it hurts again. I think I must be laying on it sleeping and that makes it worse but I don't understand that I don't wake up from it when I turn around.

Cars: we have always needed something large that drives well in the past 30 years or so. So that would be a Suburban or a YukonXL . Before farming, we went on 3 week camping trips all over the US with 2 kids, dog and everything but the kitchen sink. Now we haul things to the market and have had goats and sheep in the back, plus dog crates need to fit. I can't even remember the last time we had the extra back seats in . Only other option would be a van but I hate driving them. I rented one once and don't like the way they sit on the road
If I just wanted a fuel efficient well made little car and had enough money to afford one I would buy a large Audi. Rented one in Germany a few times and loved the way it drove.

Peanut: I have had many many ticks on me also, camping, and here and this is the first time the bite site had a large weird looking circle around it ( Lyme tick) plus as I already said we live in a high Lyme risk area, you might not. I am not going to take a chance with full blown Lyme by not taking an antibiotic. But thank, I will look it up and maybe try it if I get symptoms after I am done with the antibiotic

Getting some straw for bedding for the babies in spring tomorrow. Son will be home and can help put it up since I can't and the guy we are getting it from will help load it in the trailer.

Did more than I should have yesterday. Laundry, trimmed one goat's hoofs. Helped feed animals and move them around. The hardest thing is shifting gears in the Ranger. I have to reach over and use my left arm

Taking it easy today after an excellent ride yesterday... just gonna putter around my home, water a bit later when the air warms up a few degrees. I already fed the cats & wild birds, I'm just finishing my second cup of herbal tea. This weather is so fine that I might have a campfire in the yard this evening, I can burn off some of those pine cones & pulled stumps... I have some beef sausages or brats which I could roast over the fire too, they'd be rather tasty. There are only two left in the package, but they're pretty big, so two will probably be enough if I use bread with 'em. A campfire sounds good, as nights have been chilly here lately... 🥶

Chaosdawn, I have not forgotten the Green Bay pics, I'll post 'em later today... the geese and the winterized boats. 🙄

After I took a nap yesterday I went over to my friend's house when he got off work. His 9-yr old saw the box with the playset and was stoked. My friend is back on speaking terms with his gf's brother and the brother was very helpful- brought over a dolly to help wheel the box with the playset to the back, then helped friend organize the parts and I brought some tools to join in on assembly. I mostly held things still, held parts and tools, and handed them to my friend when he needed them. When it got darker I used my phone as a flashlight until it decided to shut down on me. Battery in power drill ran out, and mosquitoes came out. We have it mostly built but still have more to do. I want to put some wood filler in some pits where knots fell out and paint it with exterior paint to seal it up better. Ordered a toddler swing and some better chains (it came with ropes) for the little one. Went inside for awhile and chatted.

Waiting for my friend to get back today so I can bring over some tools with recharged batteries. I need to see if TSC or the local hardware store have better wood filler than what Walmart has. They used to have a bunch of paintable stuff but not anymore.

Asparagus is good stuff I grew up eating a lot of it since it grew wild in the orchards of eastern washington state.
We grow it here on the slopes of the rockies where it gets subzero every winter. Picked fresh and steamed with butter on it...nothing finer. It seems to have healing or cleansing qualities for someone that has had major medical issues. Propagate the roots by splitting and planting since each root ball produces and we always let some stalks go to produce very nice greenery and seeds.
Maybe it's just me but every time I put up a greenhouse or a portable canvas storage shed the wind is sure to blow. I anchor my farmers market canopy by filling buckets with water and tying them to each corner. That might give you some more thermal mass inside the greenhouse as well.

For anyone taking anti biotics be sure to take probiotics or at least some yogurt or kefir. My wife worked as a nurse in an urgent care and saw many many cases of people with messed up bowls and persistent diarreah since after curing one problem with antibiotics the doctors didn't follow thru to reestablish the gut flora that had also been eliminated by the antibiotics.

Today I have to try to salvage a car beat up by our teenager. He already killed one nice old economy car by driving it while it steamed and then ran out of water from a small heater hose leak. Now he lost the chipped keys to the next car so I had to tow it in and get new keys programmed ($250.00) . He also ripped the exhaust or muffler trying to off road the poor old mazda four door. If it runs well enough I will order the power steering hose that is leaking and fix that before he runs it out of power steering fluid.
On the bright side he has a job starting on monday......

..not to mention 'Oral Thrush' isn't pleasant.. 🤢 In addition to Kefir, I have personally found Acidophilus to be the best 'counter-biotic' to taking Anti's.. 👍

I made 8 bottles of pepper sauce this afternoon. I ran out of bottles. I know I have more somewhere but didn't find them.

I thought about used 1/2 pint jars. I have a case of decorative and one that's plain. Don't know how the vinegar would react to the bottom side of the metal lid.

Still have plenty of peppers to dry, mañana.

No plans but a little tv.
We put it in pint liquor bottles.

I one fall out by itself

I have lost a couple too, I pulled this one it was buggin' me, lol. That makes number 3 in the last 10 years I guess.

+1 on the Acidophilus, my wife had sever problems and no one in the hospital would get close enough to look down her throat. The throat infection had a overgrowth of fungus so her throat was raw and sloughing off. All while she was battling type one diabetes so she needed to eat. Finally got one doctor to prescribe magic mouthwash (bepto bismal, and painkiller which numbed and coater her throat so she could eat) then she got busy and treated the fungus herself and soon we were sharing T bone steaks. Protein is good you know.

So, probiotics after antibiotics are done?

I'm exhausted. Went to pick up RX & some wood putty. Grabbed some cow feed (but it was too dark when I got back & cows weren't hanging around), helped my friend finish putting the playset together, put some wood putty in a few of the holes, helped clean up the trash and burn it. His daughter was so excited I didn't even have the swing on fully before she wanted to climb on it. HIs pregnant GF kept wanting to get on the swing. The daughter was bummed when it got dark and she was told to come back inside. The toddler had no idea what the slide and swings were so he had no interest.

Grabbed Mcdonalds on the way home and now I'm about to take a nap.

Loaded up on all sorts of supplies while in town, more can goods, dried beans and peas (25lbs), anything I thought useful. Aside from a couple groceries I really didn’t need anything but the way things are going… I thought I’d better spend any loose cash now, it’ll only be worth less next month.

I was right, going in the store I didn’t think it was possible to put $350 worth of groceries in a cart. Times have changed… Prices across the board were up 10%.

I had several more stops on the way home, dog food, fuel, a hair cut. Oh! There was no one at the gas station. It was open but no clerk. Outside the door there is a bench, on it was a lighter, cigarettes and an ash tray. I recognized the smokes, a lady whose worked there a long time. Now I knew who was missing.

I walked around the building, first to the off road diesel tanks, checked the platform up top, no one. Warehouse was locked. 5 minutes had passed. I got in my truck, could get gas down a few blocks away but I didn’t want to leave in case something was wrong. It wasn’t like that lady to not be at register. I went back into the store for another look then I was going to call the cops. To funny, I saw her come out the back looking disheveled with cobwebs in her hair!

She’d gone into back part of the building that isn’t used anymore, old offices. Sometimes they store over flow from the station but there’s no power. She was in one of the back rooms when her flashlight quit working, 🤣

Said she’d stumbled around in the dark for about 10 minutes… “I’d have called the cops to come find me but didn’t have my darn phone!!!” She’s a funny lady! 😅

I was worried, known her for years but didn't even know her name until today.

Burying my Husband's ashes tomorrow; there'll be a short ceremony at the cemetery. So ran around today cleaning house and getting ready to have folks over for a meal afterwards. Sort of just in survival mode, keeping busy and trying not to break down.
Hang in there kid! we're thinking about you!

My sister is visiting from Texas, so we went up to Estes Park and joined all the other tourists wandering around in the shops. I was burned out after the first store, so I sat outside reading on my Kindle, moving from bench to bench along the main tourist drag, while my sister shopped for mirrors, shiny beads, and various other trinkets in the shops. There were tons of elk wandering around up there. Elk are not exactly a rarity around here, and I found the human-accustomed Estes Park variety about as interesting as watching a herd of cows. But my sister went all gaga over them. Her: "Look! That one's eating grass!!!". Me: "Yep". Her: "Oh, that one's standing in the water!" Me: "Yep". Her: "I think that's a female, but it has horns!" Me: "They introduced tranny elk for the woke tourists last year". We actually had a very good lunch up there. Reasonably priced. A place named "Claire's". I'd recommend it if you're in the area. After we left my sister was proud of her new-found knowledge that, yes, elk do occasionally stand in the water.

So, probiotics after antibiotics are done?

..Ideally, it's Always Best before, when possible, ie: If you know you've got a surgery / heavy-duty course of Antibiotics coming up - Load-up on the 'low-key' Pro-biotics (ie: unsweetened yogurt, kefir, etc, as MB, there, suggests..) and that'll help 'counter-balance the die-off' (of Much of the 'good' bacteria-sets in the gut / throat, etc, which get wiped out along with the 'Bad' bacteria, etc) so you don't end up with an over-run of bacterias / yeast-growths you Don't want an excess of (Candida, etc)

..But, you Can also take them 'in parallel' / post, ie: Acidophilus is a good one for that 'counter-balancing', mid-course..

Yesterday I did the Aldi shopping and filled a cart while my sister and little granddaughter went to visit mom and take her to Dollar General. Mom was in a terrible mood, and took it out on both of them pretty hard. They brought her back to our place late afternoon, and both little granddaughter and sis looked shell shocked. Bothered my sis terribly, and I guess I'm just used to it. I told another cousin that we were coming over to see all their lambs, so off we went and brought mom and her walker. We watched them paint number the day old babies and their mom (the same number), give babies first shots, banding the boys, banding the tails for docking, what hay was too green (noticed by a couple of dead sheep being moved in the tractor bucket), and learned sheep 101. Very cool. Those cousins are in their early 80's, and now their daughter and her husband have stepped in to run in. But they still do alot in their 80's. Took mom back to her place from the sheep farm, and she was wanting my sister to spend the night, so again with the insults. We are picking her up for a luncheon with relatives today, so the bets are on. I'm guessing today that my sis will be the beloved one (who will spend the night tonight) and I will be the awful one. Ready for it.

Today is the second day of building a new logging road, that will in the future be a foundation of an access driveway up the mountain. Yesterday was the yucky part, but we clearly turned the corner.

Well, since we got the new doggie, I will be venturing out to the grocery store................alone. I don't want to traumatize her as she isn't quite crate trained yet.

Wish me luck, or perhaps wish the other shoppers luck.

The grocery store on a SATURDAY!😮 Wishing you EXTRA luck!! Say hi to the Karens!!

Say hi to the Karens!!

At least I will have some cheap entertainment. With the wife not being with me, I am free to ANTI-Karen away, lolol. I love it when they say something to me and then I get to watch them walk away in a huff, after my response to them.

My wife says I'm bad, lol.

Today I ran some errands early. Went to W-M and they had pallets of evaporated milk in the isles... the wife had been "suggesting" that we get a couple of flats of it, so I did, they had 2 sizes of cans but the wife had not told me which size she wanted, so I split my purchase 50/50 with 2 -24 can flats of each... Now I have to find a place to store it...

I have started painting the boards for my new solar install project. hope to get it assembled by night fall....

My one day off of work! Did 3 loads of laundry, cleaned the fridge, vacuumed, got my cleaning supplies in my truck ready for the week, put mini marshmallows in the dehydrator, and took out the trash. That was after animal feeding this morning! It's 10:15am and I am taking a fast nap!!

I realized yesterday that my short stack of Western novels from the library were overdue, but they cut ya one day's slack, and that day was yesterday, lol, so I had to run to town and return those books, then I got caught up in a search for AMSOIL 'Metric' 4-stroke motorcycle oil, and ultimately learned where to buy it in Alamo... I'll call that place a bit later today and see if they have what I want in stock. I'd like to use the same oil I already have in my bike, though I might try Lucas Oil when I get around to changing the oil again... I just wanna top it off right now, as the oil in the bike isn't that old. 😒

Got home yesterday afternoon and watered the trees & plants, and since the weather was so fine (and also calm, no wind), I decided to have a campfire in my stone fire ring. Burned off three smaller-to-medium-sized tree stumps, the most unsightly ones which had flaring root systems. The fire was wonderful, no moon yet so I could see heaps of stars... it was just like camping except I could walk inside & grab another beer out of the fridge, lol. Pulled a comfy camp chair out there and placed it by the fire, it was an awesome evening! Didn't come inside till darned near midnight, lol.

Today, I slept in till 0730, then fed the cats & wild birds. Had my juice & herbal tea (not together, but staggered in time), now I'm ready for breakfast, lol. No big plans today, except maybe to run grab that cycle oil if it's in stock, as I want the bike ready to ride at Red Sands if that USAF hand I met wants to go ride there. Dunno what his 'work schedule' is, I'm guessin' Mon-Fri with weekends off, but in the military ya never know, lol. Might have some sort of duty this weekend, who knows? He's the guy with the Yamaha TW200, the fat-tired bike which I've always liked, I sure would enjoy trying it at Red Sands, which is a nearby OHV Recreation Area... BLM land, I reckon. :)

My shoulder is giving me a little grief this morning, half the tendons and/or ligaments in it are ripped from an old injury, so that's another reason why I'm gonna take it easy today. The dull ache will go away if I don't aggravate it. Donning my silk robe, turban & third eye & gazing into my crystal ball, I foresee... wait... what the heck is THAT? Well, bless my soul, it's a FRIDGE FULL O' BEER, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Damn, sometimes I slay myself... but I reckon beer & 'Tiger Balm' will be factors later today in numbing the ache, lol. These old injuries I have were all caused by myself, usually while drunk or stoned, or both, and riding some object like a skateboard or dirt bike, lol. Meh, it's what I was born to do... sailing also, but I'm now in the high desert and large bodies of water are rather scarce here, lol. ;)

Chaosdawn, I only found one pic of the winterized boats in Green Bay, but I think I have other shots in my photo albums. There are a dozen or more large albums loaded with pics from my 'trucking daze'---once I'm done with home rehab work and have more time on my hands, I will share those photos with all here, probably post 'em in that trucking thread I started but haven't revisited yet. Anyway, here's the pic of the boats, and as an added bonus I'm throwing in a carved wooden fish & half a set of a dozen arrows my friend the arrowsmith (now deceased) made for me as a present back in the day. He built custom crested arrows in any colors an archer wanted, but these were a birthday present. He also used inserts in the shafts so one could switch from field tips to broadheads... I miss that guy, he was one hell of an archer. 😢

The whole idea behind crested arrows is to make your arrows clearly identifiable... I imagine there's also some history behind the crested arrow, lol. Little Jon did excellent work, he had a lathe of some sort which allowed him to paint each crested arrow using fine brushes. I think he dipped 'em first, that would be the white paint. Specialized paint, IIRC, it has been a while since he passed away at age 41... poor guy. He could sure shoot that Black Widow longbow he had, I don't think I've ever seen a better archer, even in a tournament, and we went to a few of those with other friends back in the day. We were 'traditional archers' for the most part, though several friends also had compound bows... "cheater bows" as Jon called them, his was a Martin Fury, lol. Most serious archers (like Fred Bear back in the day, for example) know that the challenge is greater with a 'stick bow' and not a cheater bow, lol. Also, in a survival situation, one can make a 'stick bow' using boot laces or whatever, might not be pretty but it would still be effective at fairly close range. 🤔

WELL, I'M OFF TO SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE TODAY... GOT SOME OTHER PICS TO POST TOO! 😎
