Also put the liquid plumber stuff down the tub so I should be able to take a bath or shower without taking forever to drain or backing up. That's the second time in 6 months I've had to do it though. I think it may be time to have the septic guys out. I'm not sure if the tank has ever been pumped and the house was built in the 60s I believe?

I have a septic system installed in '68. Tank gets pumped every 20yrs plus/minus. I had to replace all the field lines about 2010.

I'm a big believer in Rid-X. It adds bacteria to the system which eat all the, well you get the idea. They just leave liquid which will flow out the field lines. Assuming they aren't blocked by tree roots.

Tree roots will stop a septic system completely.... New field lines will cost about 8-10k. Some of my lines were plugged by tree roots. The others crushed by running heavy farm equipment over them.

Long story short, I never once thought about the railroad until the window factory closed and I lost my job. I knew a guy who was in lower management at the railroad and he said, "Apply right now!" so I did. He vouched for me and I aced the interview.

So, I started on what we call "the division" or "the section". That means your job doesn't travel. You show up to the same place every day. But I was the low man and I kept getting laid off, so I went out on "The System". The System covers all of my employer's 23,000 miles of track, except for the old Missouri Pacific railroad territory. I found out that it pays a lot more than the section, and at that time we worked either 8 on/7 off, or 4 on/3 off. I loved it at first. I was grossing 6 to 8 grand a month, 10 years ago. I've been on the road since late 2010 and I'm kind of over it now. Hopefully I can go back to section to finish my career. I've got a little over 16 years til I can get a full pension so I've got a long time to think about it...
That's a lot of money! That's close to what I made as a PE in Florida
Well hope it works out for you to be able to stop traveling so much

Good to know. I'll have to ask my Grandpa, if anyone knows whether it's ever been done he should.

@ABR Good idea... There is 'stuff' that Ridx doesn't eat. A tank needs to be pumped occasionally. Maybe that's all it needs.

Also, around here if you dig out the dirt above the tank lid it saves money on the pumping service. The pump guy doesn't have to bring a little trakhoe or dig it out. I'd ask the service you call about all the details. They may have a teenager hired for the summer to dig or bring a trakhoe anyway. So digging wouldn't save you $$.

Edit, I guess a better way to say it is... see if it's a package deal. Sorry, exhausted tonight, hard to write logically.

Hey, we've got slip and slides Lady L and Pearl. You can come on over!
Went into the bigger town to Walmart and Hobby Lobby. Husband ended up being bored enough to be our driver. He talked to his mom on the phone while he waited for us. Our poor old dog Chookie collapsed this evening on the way to his bedtime kennel. He can't see much or hear much anymore. So we brought the kennel to him with his favorite blanket. I'll be surprised if he makes it to the morning. He's been a good dog and a good friend.

It’s mostly old geezers around us. Sure- you’d be the life of the party. There are a couple of distilleries but about 100 wine tasting rooms. Cheers.
I'm wearing my swimsuit, gotta warn you, it's got a hole in one if the knees!! I'll need beer, not wine. I will cook and clean .... I'm moving in permanently right? Better clarify before I get there!🤪♥️😃

We got our chickens out to their new home and run today. We have 12 hens, and I just finished rhe house and run. I do have some trim work left to put up. I’m pretty sure they are going to love their new “red house”

Sorry about Choockie!! LL and I will be there tomorrow!! Warning, she's not going to be wearing a swimsuit!🙄

Weren't you setting up a pool?? Yep we are coming!! If we have to share a pool with the geese LL is not going to like not having a swimsuit!!😉🤔 I guess she thinks everyone will be looking at her nails!!💅🙃

Weekend was a blur but today was more productive. I got the tub vacuumed and got things cleaned up and out of the way, organized a bit, and had it ready for my friend to come over and help. Got horizontal trim and corner trim put up. Friend wasn't available until after 5pm and we spent about 3 hrs working on stuff. Plumbing got hooked up to valve but we have to wait 48hrs for adhesive to cure to drill holes through the trim to do the showerhead and nothing is fully secured until showerhead is in.
Got friend some food, dropped him off, grabbed some stuff from Walmart, & got gas in the truck.
I think I can get the side trim pieces up by myself but will have to see. Might need a nail gun.
Resting my back for now with a heating massage pad thing

Well, here we are. Early Tuesday morning. I worked 6 hours and left 2 hours early using 2 of my last 4 hours of personal time. I should be getting to sleep at a respectable time and hopefully getting a good nights sleep. I have already consumed 2 shots of Evan Williams Bourbon, 2 Pabst Blue Ribbons, and 2 left over chicken kabobs. Maybe a half hour more on the computer, a couple degrees cooler on the A/C, and a hot shower and I will be out for the night.

Since I started back full time working overnights at Home Depot in October occasionally I needed food for "lunch" and my only options were yucky McDonalds or Del Taco. I am not a fan of Del Taco's "Mexican" food but they have a darn good double cheeseburger. They also have a very good, polite, and always friendly night manager who works the drive through window several nights a week. I found out a few months ago when I asked him to apply for the night shift at Home Depot that he was putting himself through the Police Academy and that he wanted to be a police officer. Well, since he was spending his own money for this training I chose to not try and talk him into being a Fire Fighter instead and encouraged him, explaining that I was retired LEO myself. Well, we always had our short chats about his training or our current night at work but he did complete all his training and graduated from the academy a couple months ago. I promised him a few shoulder patches from my old department and tonight I finally gathered up a few of the different patches our department had over the years I worked there and, the hard part, I found my old business cards. I wrote "Retired" on a couple cards and put my phone number and email on one of them. I asked him to let me know where he ends up and when he is hired and trained and settled, and told him to stay safe, and I will send him a few more patches. I gave these to him after my 6 hour shift, I didn't order food I just waited in the drive through saying I didn't want anything I just wanted to give him something. (He always recognized my voice or the sound of my diesel truck) I handed over a few patches, the departments original from 1953, the "new" one they created in the mid-90's, and the newest one they created in 2003 for the departments 50th anniversary. He was appreciative and said he was having a lousy night but I just made it a good night. On my drive home he sent me a text message. He asked if I would be willing to write a letter of recommendation, based on our limited interaction at the drive through, because any recommendation from a current or retired LEO would be very helpful. ABSOLUTELY!!! I know that most all of us rarely have great customer service at the drive through, we might have someone polite or who smiles but for someone to be overly polite and friendly time and time again even when they are having a bad night is extremely rare. I really wish he would have chosen to be a Fire Fighter instead of a Police Officer but this guy will be one of the good guys.

Good morning to all ya'all, sweet dreams to me. One more night of night shift, a day off on Wednesday with a massage at 3pm to relax these old overworked muscles, then the start of my new "retirement" job on Thursday. Who wants to call me at 0700 hours Mountain time to wake me up for my 8am start time at the new place? :dunno:

Dogs woke me up at 3 am. Sigh Peanut Butter is not feeling well this morning.
Will walk first.
Walk dogs.
Pry up some more bamboo roots.
Take DH to oral surgeon this afternoon.
Sorry PB isn't feeling well. I'd rather pull up bamboo shoots than go to the oral surgeon.

Yep...we have that pool little granddaughter set up, too. It's only a couple feet deep tho.
Housecleaning to do all day today after animal chores. And laundry. One of our daughters is coming tomorrow, late afternoon, for a few days visit. She's on her way to Dubuque Iowa to take an 8 week job. She's a traveling ultrasound lady.

Got a little time off this morning. One of my ladies called, her A/C went out. She is in an apartment so maintenance is fixing it this morning. I have enough time Thursday to squeeze her in! Debating changing my other job and staying home, not driving to town for one small job! I'll call and feel it out shortly. Planning on spraying fence lines with vegetation killer. May do some mowing?! Trim Bear's nails, trim my nails 😉! Brush and fly spray Buddy. And work on my 'to do' list. A nap is definitely happening IF I stay home!

Just back from a jaunt up to Northern Ireland with my daughter, nice wander around a town and a coffee, poked around the second hand shops- which did not have second hand prices lol.
Also checked out two supermarkets, one heap and one middle to high range. Horrified at prices in both- not sure how people are coping in Britain, can see why their government are trying to place a cap on dairy products.

Gonna take it easy today, for some reason my back has been stiff the past few days, so maybe a hot bath is in my near future... I have a bag of Epsom Salts too, maybe those will help. I'm just gonna stick with routine household chores today, and maybe read a good Western. Looking at the weather forecast, Thursday looks like the best day for a cycle ride this week, so I'm gonna check the bike tomorrow and make sure it's ready for my ride. I have some empty moving boxes to put in the other shed too, along with the others already there; I reckon I'll flatten those boxes for easier storage, I don't wanna throw 'em away since they make good 'Mexican Creepers' for auto and cycle work... at my age, even a 'Mexican Creeper' beats lying on gravel, lol. This is bug season too, and the goldurned bugs are going off... at least the gnat infestation died out a while ago. Ants are a problem though, my elderly neighbor hasn't dealt with the ant nests on her property, so the blasted ants are crawling into my yard. :(

Sorry about Choockie!! LL and I will be there tomorrow!! Warning, she's not going to be wearing a swimsuit!🙄
You realize you are talking about the one who seldom even wears shorts, so I won't be wearing a swimsuit, but might possibly be wearing jeans and a T like I do 99% of the time 😂
Also, nails are dark green at the moment. 😊
If we snare @Amish Heart &/or @MoBookworm1957 in on this, we could be the new 3 Musketeers - watch out world there's a new superhero(s) :drink buddy:

Had to take the Honda into the shop today for check engine light. Code reader told me it was something in the emissions system, but only a minor priority. Car was running fine. Except we have an emissions inspection due for licence plate renewal, and you will never pass that if you have a check engine light on due to an emissions problem. So I had to take the car in to get it fixed.

Turns out some rat bastard (literally) chewed through the wires and a connector to some evaporative canister vent valve thingy. Evidently Mr. Moron Mouse decided to take a stroll through the underbelly of the car and stopped off for a snack while touring the emissions system. Grrr!!!

I did stay home! Got some mowing done, sprayed veg killer, vacuumed, (how do two cats and a dog shed so much?), made ham and egg salad. Fixin' to take a fast nap, then vacuum the pool. Got some beer chilling in the freezer, may hit the pool float early since there is a chance of rain later!!😉😃

Haertig, I wonder if something chewed is the reason for my emissions warning. I replaced the gas gap. Honda place did a diagnostic and said there was an evap leak but they did not mention it to me at all or say anything about what was causing the leak or any possible solution when I brought it in. I didn't find out until later when I was reading the paperwork. So, the evap leak would be a reason for the check engine light being on?

This morning I've been tinkering in the bathroom, locating tools, gluing together shims and putting some up. I was able to get some craft sticks together and glue them to the wall next to the corner trim so when I put the patch piece in next to the tub it will sit flush with the main trim piece. I wish I could find some sort of mini trowel for caulk to spread it better. I may end up having to use other tools and then washing them immediately. I'm hoping I can get a tube of construction adhesive open. My friend had a hard time with it. I'm not happy with the allegedly "no drip" caulk gun I got. It is not "no drip". I'm seriously thinking of investing in an electric caulk gun. Arthritis in my hands makes using a caulk gun a literal pain.

Cat pounced on me and I completely lost my train of thought.

Chookie made it thru the night. Is out on the grass under the shade tree at the moment. Going to give him his lunch. He's moving, but very slowly.
Got a phone call our NRA instructor and his wife traveling thru and we'll meet them for dinner tomorrow, and our daughter comes in tomorrow, too. Still lots of housework to get done. Animals, garden, and rabbit cages cleaned all done.

So, the evap leak would be a reason for the check engine light being on?
Definitely. Many auto parts stores around here will hook up their code reader to your car for free and tell you the reason your check engine light is on. Specifically, I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts near my house and they told me the code. P0498. If you have an O'Reilly store in your area, I know they will do the diagnostic for free (their website says as much). So I used Google to look up "Honda diagnostic code P0498" once I knew this was the issue. So I knew what it was, possible causes for it, and how it is normally fixed. Then I made an appointment at the car shop to have it re-diagnosed and fixed. But I walked into the shop having some idea of what they might find (always a good idea). And sure enough, they found one of the things the Google search told me could be the issue.

Yes, if an auto parts store only gives you a numerical code, you can still look it up on the web. And Haertig, look at the bright side: at least the rodent didn't steal your catalytic converter! 🤣

I'm enjoying a cold Coors on this quiet afternoon, waiting for that rain to show up later (I hope). One thing about living in the boondocks, there are no "emissions tests" to pass, lol. I don't miss that BS from Kalifornia... 😒

I think Honda sometimes requires more specific devices to read their codes or something but I could be wrong. I know that there is an evap leak from the notes from the Honda place. They charged me over $200 for a diagnostic and then didn't even verbally tell me about the results or discuss it with me. If I were to take it back they would charge me another $200 to determine the source of the evap leak. One of the things I paid for was for them to find and resolve the reason for the check engine light. They charged over $1k and they damaged my CV axel while installing a new wheel bearing.
Truck still makes a weird thumping noise after replacing the axle. I wonder if its the sway bar link or if they didn't put the wheel bearing in properly.

I'm being lazy before I have to get up to cook. Went to Walmart to grab Mom's RX and got something to cook. We'll see if she is being too picky to eat it or not.
