Thank you for the info @TMT Tactical we have totally different powdered milks in Australia than you get over there but all good to know. I usually work with a lot of United States recipes so can make it work and practiced subbing with our full cream instant powdered milk.

Wow, full cream instant, I bet that tastes a lot better than our stuff. Maybe we should start up an international food smuggling operation. :ghostly:

Nido is a whole milk powder. Its not instant but mixes pretty easily. I use it for cooking when my girls aren't in milk.

@TMT Tactical our instant full cream powdered isn't bad tasting at all and we use it instead of real milk for cooking, cuppas and everything. I will say it depends on which brands you buy though some supermarket brands tastes horrid so you have to try them out to get the best tasting one. What does your whole powdered milk taste like over there ?, almost impossible to get here or have shipped in unless you pay hugely for shipping.

@Terri9630 we also get Nido over here in Australia but you have to pay and arm and a leg to buy it unfortunately which doesn't make it economical.

More great info for those NOT in the know. Enjoy.

Thank you!

Then there is a comparison of which powdered milks are preferred in a taste test. Taste is very important.

In MHO, our instant non-fat taste like, well pour one glass of milk, then add three glasses of water into it and that is how it tastes. horrible.

That's called skim milk. Well, that's what skim milk tastes like to me and most of the dried milk is fat free.

I wonder if there is anything in the U.S. that is a powdered cream, real cream, not the chemical stuff ? I know there is buttermilk?

Yea thats the only thing I've ever seen also.

I just did a search for powdered cream and got these links:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=powdered+cream&bext=wop&ia=products

Seems to be some on amazon, bluegrassdairy.com, packitgourmet.com

theres some images of things like heavy cream powder and coconut milk cream powder at the top of the duckduckgo link
Thank you. I think I am going to order some. I realize that I go through a bunch of half and half in coffee. This would be great in our preps, especially if we use it in coffee or anything regularly.

read the reviews because I saw on one of them that it tasted terrible and ruined one person's homemade yogurt

I read the reviews as well, and some are better than others. I ordered some, it was Hoosierville. For an order over $25 it was free shipping, so I ordered some blue cheese powder as well. I can see some great dips and dressings from that!

@Weedygarden you can also make cheese from the Nido powdered milk as well. They do sell that here but you have to pay a fortune for it though.

I have heard it tastes pretty disgusting as well but never tried it personally.

Sewing, I just ordered Peggy Layton's Milk Preparedness book. I have wondered if you can make cheese from the LDS milk. I need to try it.

You can but its skim milk so you don't get the same yield as whole milk.
