There is a mouse. If he wasn't in the house and a constant irritation to the wife, I would probably be daydreaming about how to make a pet out of him. He's kinda cute. But, he's gotta go.

I've had traps out for him for months. I see some of the paths he travels and put traps right where he goes. I butter them up generously with peanut butter, not just any peanut butter, but MY GOOD peanut butter. He ignores it completely. I've seen him walk right by it and never even a glance.

I thought mice loved peanut butter? I guess I got a weird one. But he really needs to go. I suppose I could resort to a sticky trap but there's something about those that really bother me. I'd rather not do that if there's another way.

So I thought I'd ask, does anyone have suggestions for a mouse that's a picky eater? Or maybe there's a different kind of a trap? Those electric chair for mice ones are expensive but if that's what it takes?

Thanks!

You yell at him saying "YOU'LL EAT WHATEVER I PUT IN FRONT OF YOU OR YOU'RE GOING STRAIGHT TO BED!". ;)

Since it's in your house, I'd stick with a trap instead of poison. You don't want it to eat poison then crawl someplace and die. That'll stink. Maybe try something that's a little sweeter. Put some sugar on the peanut butter.

Aah, hadn't thought of that. I use the natural peanut butter, basically nothing but ground up peanuts and a little salt. Maybe he's a modern mouse and only likes peanut butter that's sweetened. LOL!!

Thanks for the thought, I'll have to give that a try. Maybe a drop or two of molasses on top of the peanut butter? Otherwise, I'll have to pick up a small jar of the sweetened stuff next grocery trip.

I wonder if a little butter or bacon grease would work? We have had mice completely ignore one trap with peanut butter as well. I remember as a child thinking that they should like cheese, but completely pass that by as well. A neighbor bought some bags of popped popcorn and put them in her garage for storage. The mice got into them. Maybe tie a piece of popped popcorn to the bait spot on the trap?

He has a peanut allergy.

There is a man who has made many Youtube videos about catching mice and other rodents. He has collected quite a collection of traps from various times and cultures. He must have a granary or place where there is grain that is over run with rodents. He doesn't care if they live.

A five gallon bucket is used as a mouse catcher and there are many, many youtube videos showing them set up and the results.

I recently had one that disliked peanut butter and sharp chedder cheese...It kept going for the dry kitty food. So I put the kitty bowl in the fridge and filled the mouse trap with it..less than 24 hours I had the male. The female was caught the same day by my lazy fat cat..finally ...It was pregnant too and little mouse babies were scattered all over my kitchen rug I just washed. A mouse liver and guts were splayed about as well...
sigh...lol..

There is nothing like a good mouser.

There is nothing like a good mouser.
he used to be back in his hayday..
he is old , very overweight and on the verge of throid issues.
When I first moved here..the first spring he had 3 piles of dead vermin displayed for my viewing in the garden area alone. He actually put his kill in 3 little piles..occasionally sharing the bootie and offering me half a mouse or rat.He would kindly place his kill convienetly upon my doorstep or kitchen rug. He would sit patiently about 5 feet away until I noticed his generous portioned offering. Id make show of his kindness..give him extra vittles in his bowl amazed at how it took a decade for him to stop attacking me and now this proud once feral mini lion feeds me a share of his mice...
Yes those were the days of glorious bounty from Crazy Cat...
Now that he finally gets that I'm a kind human..willing to put up with bipolar, kitty issues for years..his health fades..and although I secretly yearn for the day of no stinking nasty crusty kitty box ...I know deep down I will miss the occasional surprise maulings...
Wild weasel for mouse patrol seems mighty appealing but who knows..Im not a huge kitty person but I did adopt this lost cause everyone called Crazy..
