We used to have boar season here. Russian, or Eurasian, depending on who you ask, brought in for sport. No more boar seasons or tags. I doubt there are any wild strain left. The Russian boar were broad of shoulder and narrow of hip and not much over . I have heard tales of huge boars but I have never personally seen one much over 150 pounds, most were smaller. Feral swine take on some of that with time though. Feral pigs do get bigger. I have seen 300 pounders, but most are much smaller.
Swine are not native to North America, but from Europe, and maybe Asia, but I am really not sure. Some trivia I learned from back when we had a wild boar hunting season. . Peccary are native to South America, and again I am not real sure, but they are not swine. Maybe related though? This is stuff I learned from the boar hunting trips I used to book in the North Carolina mountains. So subject to being wrong, I just took it in, never verified any of it.
We had feral pig and feral goat on the farm. The goats got loose at the same time. Not seen any goats in the past few years though. I think maybe the coyotes got them.
