This is very common for Judge Judy. She is quick to let people know that they only need a simple yes or no. Of course, it is not the way we treat someone we care about!
I'm technically orientated. It's what I do for a living. Plus I'm a strong believer in,"Talk little, say much". I ask a question in a particular way to help get to the source of the problem ASAP. Listening to a long reply about the history of the problem and every real and perceived problem full of worthless chaff just postpones the resolution.
Did the sun come up this morning? If Yes, good. If No, "Do you have a lighting source? If Yes, good. If No, would you like to borrow mine? Quick, efficient and no fuss.

Did the sun come up this morning?
Yesterday I got home from work late and didn't get all of the laundry done before supper. My friend gave me a new casserole recipe which I thought I would try but then discovered I didn't have all of the ingredients. So I fixed leftovers instead. So I stayed up late and finished the laundry because the dress I wanted to wear tomorrow was dirty and in the laundry. I guess I should have washed the dress first but then it didn't really matter because I didn't wear it then after-all. So I didn't get to bed until 1 AM.
Did you notice if the sun come up this morning?
I didn't get up till late so I didn't see the sunrise. Fixed a late breakfast before doing my exercises. There's something wrong with the VCR because my exercise tape wouldn't play at first. And "we" need to rearrange the furniture too. The glare on the TV from the sun made it hard for me to follow the instructor...
