I have been working on a couple quilts lately. One is for a granddaughter when she gets into her big girl bed and trying to get it as close as possible to her big sisters I did for her. They won't be exactly alike but compliment each other nicely. Then another that will be a gift for one of the four boys.

I have had just a basic model Brother since my high school graduation so it's been around for a good many years and has done me pretty good over the years but for the last couple we've had the love hate relationship. My tension always seems to slip and need readjusting. Yesterday morbing, I could only get it to hold for maybe an inch before it started messing up again. By 4 o'clock I grabbed my checkbook and started out the door for Joanna since they had a 40% off sale. Hunny asked where are you going. . . Me, so you want to come along. He has been after me to get a new machine for awhile. Well my plan was to just get the basic Singer for $85. Figured I'd I took my Brother in, it would have been at least $60 to service so why not just get a brand new one.

Well hunny bought me a new Singer that is good for quilting since that is what I mainly do. I was amazed at how fast things were going after we got it home and I started to play around with it. But fish darn it, I accidentally sewed 2 1/2 squares together that shouldn't have been. Instead of ripping all those out, I am just going to recut to replace those and see them with the right colors together. Apparently I was just happy to be able to see again.

Went to sleep at around 9:30 last night and woke up at almost 1 am. I'm like a kid the night before Christmas! So I am having my morning coffee and about to start sewing again.

Happy Thanksgiving yall!!

IMG_20181124_042517.jpg This is a quilt top that I was able to complete this morning for one of the boys and it only took a couple days. I gave them blue but for the girls in there lives I used some floral. My hope is that it will be used as a family quilt. I saw this design in a kit Joanns was selling for $35.99 on clearance and fell in love. Really enjoying that new machine!

Nice

Today I finished what I originally had wanted accomplished on my quilt then wanted to go to Joanns for their 70% off Keepsake Calico. That is the cheapest you can get all year long and I loaded up! Got enough for 4 more quilts. I am going to get this one that I am working on done in time for Christmas. My hope is for a second but not holding my breath. I have only been doing quilts for the last three years and so far only grand babies, all girls. Well one of the almost DILs asked son how she can get a quilt out of me. . . he tells her that she has to give me a grand baby first. Well, I know they are not ready yet. . . she is but he isnt and that is ok. I have decided to go ahead and make all four boys a 'family' quilt. Then I figured I better make one for my mom and my sister. So 4-5 quilts depending plus grand baby's big girl bed quilt is my goal for this next year.

I'll bet the cut lines and checkout lines were long today!

It is a good thing I had to work today and now I'm not feeling well, otherwise, I would have bought fabric that I probably don't need. 70% OFF ? ugh. I guess sales vary by location.
I hope you feel better soon. I know what you mean about buying fabric you dont need, . . . I am starting to get a good stash going now :)

Wow Dani I am so excited for you!!!! A good working machine makes all the difference in the world.. I used to work in a sewing & vacuum shop.. when husbands would complain about how much sewing machines cost ( we sold Pfaffs) I would ask them how much their lawn mowers cost.. or rifles or boats?? I'd say a sewing machine is a tool your wife will use to the benefit of your family and can pass on down to her children.. the husbands would usually sputter and say " I never thought of it that way" then they'd want the wife to buy the mist expensive model.. but of course I didn't tell them about a quilters stash!!!! Hahaha!! :) :) :)

Every quilter needs a stash.
When I was participating in the crafting group, one woman was especially full of herself. When I talked about my stash, she got all haughty, and she bought materials and used them for the current project, as though there was something wrong with me. We talked about all the sewing, crafting and quilting groups on Facebook, and many people show their stashes and crafting rooms. I have a stash, but nothing like some people do.

We had lots of materials donated to our group and we would sort them out and people could take what they wanted. Miss Haughty was also cheap, and before long, she had a stash.

Oh Kim that was a great comeback!! Weedygarden isn't amazing how some selfrightous people suddenly become what they have been fussing against!!?

I'm not ashamed to admit I have a HUGE stash.. I ran my own sewing business for a while.. when I closed it, I kept quite a lot of the fabric.. people have given me about half of what I have, and yes, I have bought some incredible pieces.. I love to share with quilters and will gladly give them some.. sort of like paying forward.. so yes,, enjoy your stash.. :)

Yesterday we went to sewing real sewing shop. . . I had been wanting a free motion farming foot for awhile now and had checked both Joanna and Hobby Lobby with no luck. I know that Joanna used to carry them but at the time I was not ready to branch out and was only comfortable with the straight lines. I've done the swirly on 1 quilt now with my regular foot but really didn't want to fight with my quilt pulling it thru the pass thru so many times.
This shop was amazing! So many different things to look at which included a $20,000 dollar sewing machine. Hunny actually went with me too and kept pointing things out to me. . . I am very lucky he totally supports my hobby :)

I'm cheap too ;). I tried to just buy for the current project, but always wanted to get just a little extra in case of a cutting error. And then other times you just will automatically have a little leftover. But then this last weekend when Joanna had 70% off Keepsake Calico. . . Well I bought close to 16 yards of different material. You just can't beat that price. You accumulate a stash quickly if you do a lot of sewing, intending or not, it just happens.

It's a good thing that store isn't so easy for me to get to!
I was lucky a new friend was getting rid of a lot of her fabric and she let me pick what I wanted. Too bad she moved.
What kind of batting do you use and why? I made one quilt with 100% cotton. Do other blends not shift as much? I cut it to the measurements of the quilt, and the batting was still catterwhompus. Lol

I like to use the cotton/polyester blend. 80/20. This last one I got is Fairfield Quilters 80/20. First time using but not on that quilt yet. There is one that will "stick" to your quilt top when you iron it and I really liked that one. Bought it when it was in sale at 50% cause it was pricy and needed a king size. I'm only on quilt 6 so still experimenting. There is one called Warm & something a rather that was very nice too.
