Pizza for Breakfast?

I don't like pizza. Do you think that's weird? I'll eat it, but would rather not. I eat oatmeal more than cereal.

We have pizza about 3 times a month, we make it ourself except for the crust we buy. We don't put much cheese on it either. Its always vegetable pizza. No keto here but w do eat meat a couple times a week or sometimes month.
 
I had to google what Chicago style pizza was. I have had it, but it was more than 20 years ago, on a trip to Chicago. I knew that the toppings are upside down, but this explains why.

I was stationed a year at the "Great Lakes Naval Station". In the years that followed I worked in Chicago many times, one assignment was 4 months long. I've also worked in NY City.

I didn't know it at the time but in the 70's Pizza Hut pizza was based on Chicago pizza, even into the 90's. When they got real competition in the 90's from other chains they added new pie's. A few pizza's on their menu are a New York style. Basically, if you've been to Pizza Hut in the last 40 years you've had either NY or Chicago style pizza.

I do like Chicago pizza but not deep dish. I just like the super thin crust of a NY pizza a little better.

Back in 1963 my friends and I worked at an authentic pizza place ,we didn't have picture Ids back then so we just erased the age and of course they let us work knowing we were under age. I accidently set a womans boufaunt hairdo on fire with one of the ' flaming pizzas'.we served. All I had to put it out was a coffee pot in the other hand. So her husband threw his coat over it.

LOL! Some people would have been really unkind if they had this happen to them.

I'm sure she was upset but they told me to get in the back and stay there but I heard she was ok not seriously burned ,thank goodness.
Thats probably why you don't see flaming pizzas anymore they can be dangerous.

I would really like to be able to make my own NY style pizzas. I've watched enough cooking shows to know how to do it. My Cuisinart convection oven just doesn't have the control I need to do it right.

There was one show about a Korean lady in Minnesota turning out world class NY pizza. Of course she had a world class stone oven... maybe one day... :rolleyes:
 
In the early 80 I went to Northbrook, Ill. for a training class.
There was a small pizza place across the road from the hotel that had the best pizza ever.
I found out later it was rated number 1 pizza in the Chicago area.
You had to bring your own beer but the owner would let you use her ice chest to keep it cold.
Strange liquor laws on some places.
 
I would really like to be able to make my own NY style pizzas. I've watched enough cooking shows to know how to do it. My Cuisinart convection oven just doesn't have the control I need to do it right.

P,nut why go back to the stone age pizzas, when you can have just as good one from your own modern oven.:doghouse::huggs:

Yep BackL those were the days alright. There was a restaurant bar in Ft.Lauderdale ,Fl. Peanuts on every table and at the bar. You threw your shells on the floor. Peanut shells all on the floor. I guess the guys felt liberty not having to be neat.
I bet they closed that place down too.

Years ago, I had a pizza stone for the oven. Like other things, it disappeared when my daughter got her own place. I looked for a long time for a used one on Craigslist. I could have bought a new one for a price, but I decided to find one for less on CL. After looking for a while, one finally came up on CL for around $12. It now lives in my oven. Whenever I heat up my oven, it gets heated up. It works well to set a baking pan on such as when I am heating up chicken or other things.

But, I have long thought that in a grid down or SHTF situation, an outdoor pizza type oven would be a great thing to have. There are YouTube videos and other instructions to make them online. I want one, but haven't built one. I think they could be built by any of us. I also think it is a good idea for cooking in the heat of the summer.

I was thinking of a roommate I had who was from Morocco. She told me that they had big ovens in their neighborhoods where you could take your stone dish with food in it and leave it to cook. I think in places where it is really hot, like Morocco, a central oven, outside of the home is a good idea, as long as there are not people who abuse it.

Now that is the kind of oven I would like to have for shtf and we have seen them made too.
My daughter gave us a stone for oven. I gave it back, but to be honest I never got to use it.
