@Flight it never hurts to be prepared anyway I say and these are things we should all have a stock of whether it be a big or small stock of. We just work to our budget here and increase stocks each shopping day (usually once a month). By buying half price specials you can buy quite a lot and stock more in a short period of time.

Dr. Peter Vincent Pry is Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and Director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum, both Congressional Advisory Boards, and served on the Congressional EMP Commission, the Congressional Strategic Posture Commission, the House Armed Services Committee, and the CIA. He is author of the books "Blackout Wars", "Apocalypse Unknown", and "Electric Armageddon".

I saw that too. IMO he isn't fear mongering. he's not selling anything, just giving a warning to stock up on stuff most of us already have on hand anyway. I have saw other reports of the Gov doing studies into EMP threats (mainly manmade more recently). Just a few days ago there was 2 separate incedents of multiple transformers blowing . If a big EMP truly goes, it'll much worse than that over a huge area. Bad enough and suddenly we are back in the 1800's with little knowledge of how to make do in that setting.

Well I have been slowly getting more food stuff into to basement (not as much as I would like) but working on it. I'm sure I have more then the unprepared but no were near as much as some of you hear lol.

I did get what I wanted for Christmas though, my Daughter picked out "How to survive anything " book which really surprised my wife and I, my wife picked (what I had bookmarked in Amazon lol) the other 2 books, green what I'm going to turn into a EDC. bag, and I don't have it with me, a mini single burner stove.

@Sewingcreations15 yes it is cool, but what's really surprising is that my wife and I dont talk to our daughter about it (intellectually slow) I guess by watching dad(me) she is learning which is great, but I think that my wife isn't really into it, she just lets me do my thing lol, which is ok also in my books.

@Flight that is really cool that your daughter is learning from watching both yourself and your wife so I can imagine that was an extra special unexpected gift from your daughter. A lot of people seem to take for granted how well intellectually impaired people do pick up on things and learn and I know that from working with many and also being a foster parent to a child with severe autism.

Not everyone in a marriage is into the same thing but your wife clearly sees that you are passionate about prepping and supports you with that so that is good. DH here is into playing computerised PS 1 - 4 games and I am not as I am simply an unco and am not good at it due to Acquired Brain Injury impairing my fine motor skills and the motion can cause seizures for me. I still support him with buying the games as with his back and body injuries from the military that is how he unwinds and I am fine with that. I prefer to sew, draw and paint and he supports me with doing that too.

Well I get on the Xbox when I get home and yell at the TV (lol) to unwind so I get it, we all have thing we do to unwind that's for sure.
Hopefully soon I can build that shelf for my soup cans that you put in at the top and you grab from the bottom to keep the stock fresh lol.

DR Peter Vincent Fry is a real guy and he very much believes in his own opinion. The real question is do we have an adversary who is willing to launch a nuclear first strike. Would that first strike remain as a singular event or would the first strike trigger an all out nuclear exchange. If the first strike was an EMP event and an all out exchange was not triggered you should be prepared to live without an electrical grid for an extended period of time. The other EMP event with a higher likelihood of occurrence is a coronal mass ejection from the sun. The protection features built into the electrical grip have a better chance of mitigating a sun based EMP.

I would love to find free ones. I bought the big blue ones at Sportsmans

The last free ones we got was from a trucking place. They had DEF in them and we used it to water the garden for a year before switching it to the rabbits.

I remember when I got serious about prepping. I researched and saw what was needed to prep for X amount of time and according to my taste. I made some shopping lists and once a month would buy something, such as 25 pounds of rice, or beans, or something and package it up so it was safe from damage. I continued to do this for years, and before you know it, I have some food security. I like having a stock of food that would get my family and I through tough times.

Hubs had the day off today so I dragged him to town to fill up the propane tanks and get the big/heavy stuff that has been on our "need to get" list. Thankfully the weather cooperated and we hit some good sales too. We got several propane tanks filled and also spent a Sears gift card we had since the future of Sears doesn't sound too promising. Then we went to WM and got some supplies we needed and also took advantage of some good clearance deals......bought some gifts for next year already at a huge discount! By the time I finished the day at Aldi, we had pretty much loaded up the truck. I'll be a couple of days getting all this stuff put away, which is OK as I kinda like that part.

Just trying to get soil built up so we can plant crops. And soon do more canning.
Sustainable living is our main goal since if it got really bad the kids and grand would have no place but here to go. Son in Texas has a daughter and SIL that could probably do ok so he would stay there. Atlanta area [ home of 145 gangs and S.American cartel hub ] would probably be a very bad place to be.

Doing the hard but adult thing again this pension.

I'm buying a 2000 ltr under deck rain water bladder. They look like a giant pillow.
I need to address the water issue because all the garden plans turn to dust without the
water to keep it alive.

Once again I'm very grateful for my stockpile which will keep me well fed this fortnight.

Sounds like a good idea to set up for water.

@Tank-Girl sounds like a great idea for more water security for you if you are totally on town water :) .

Well I've pulled the trigger on the water storage but not without being in prayer before hand to get leading in the Spirit.
I always want to be in obedience and now I'm praying that my actions are pleasing.
I did mange to get free shipping so I'm very happy about that!

It also frees me from grocery shopping in the rain while disabled so..YAY to that.

Adulting is hard but I have gratitude in my heart that I still have the choice.

I'm grateful that I paid off a full years worth the phone and internet subscriptions so I have no more
of those bills coming in until Jan 2020.

I have a electricity meter reading on the 21st of Jan. There'll be money to pay that the moment I get the bill.

Praise God.

Getting slowly and surely back on track with my preps.
Cleaning the bottom kitchen cabinets out so I can store more preps.
Reworking linen closet for more prep storage too.
According to book I read a person only needs 4 towels(have 4 times that many),wash clothes, etc.
So if I get rid of excess, that would empty 5 shelves,(4 foot x 5 foot x 15 inches deep) for more prep space.
Course you might have to do more laundry.
Will have space in bottom of closet for approx. 9 cases of water x 24 bottles.
Reworking all kitchen, linen, bathroom cabinets for more storage for preps.
Thinking I could almost empty 2 cabinets tomorrow in the kitchen.

I had put a good deal of my hand towels rags n all into totes or what ever.when i moved into where i now live.not only to save shelve space.but also because i figure i might need them some day. .but i do need to rework all of that thoe.on account their still takeing up to much shelf space..and i want to able to store other items there as well

I wouldn't get rid of all of it since stuff still wears out. I like your idea of getting rid of what isn't needed to make room for needed.
Last night our electric went out, it was very late so most in the area were probably clueless. It was a reminder to me about flashlights and batteries being easily accessed.

I have a abundance of various sizes of batteries stored in plastic shoe boxes under Estelle's toddler bed.
Also have LED flashlights and lanterns stored for easy access in every room. There are extra flashlights stored under her little bed too.
To keep her out of them, I make her bed where the quilt hangs over the side usually.
She helps or hinders Granny in her preps. Starting her young.
