We both at times have ringing in the ears and it makes it hard to go to sleep.
So we listen to the only radio station that is talk radio ,Michael Savage, Bill Cunningham, that comes on at 9 p.m. here. Radio has timer so that helps.
Got tired of the politics and crap so went to library and checked out audio CD's. Daniell Steel, Lois L' Amour and Mark Twain.
Good thing about these is they have chapters and cd's that last no longer than an hour so don't wake you up in middle of night.
If anyone else has this problem maybe this will help you too.

I sometimes listen to YouTube and it can put me to sleep while I am laying in bed.

I have known a few people who listen to books on tape when they are traveling, especially in areas where there is not many radio stations available.

Weedy I have too and bet it makes the trip go faster and adds entertainment.
I know we both like these CDs better than talk radio.
It sure beats hearing the ringing which seems to get worse with time.

I wonder what causes the ringing? And I wonder if there is any treatment for it?

I don't know what causes it but I hear there is no cure for it. Speaking of radio ,one of them had to quit radio it got so bad he was on about 5 years ago 'Coast To Coast' Eon Pennant spl was his name. He said no cure for it.

There are long recordings on youtube for sleeplessness. I also have tinnitus but it doesn't drive me bonkers and keep me awake.
Listening to seashore sounds might work for me.
Back in the day, I'd turn on a baseball game while holding a restless toddler, he or she would fall asleep quickly. And I started enjoying it too, awake.

The thing is if it isn't turned off after about an hour it wakes us back up and disturbs our rheem 'spl' sleep .
So we have to have a timer or like the CDs that turn off without us having to wake up or get up and turn it off.

Some of those videos I posted are short, some are long. Just make sure you don't have it on autoplay and it will turn off. I have to pay my phone face down so the room is nice and dark.
