I use motion sensing lights, alarms and cameras.
UV will degrade your fishing line tripwire so you will have to replace it at intervals. Nylon and cotton thread will light up like a neon sign if hit by black light.
Nylon will also bounce IR and even conduct along it. Just for your information so you can decide if you need trip wires to use ... trip WIRE?

What? No grenades or claymores? What is this world coming to?

Just causing a NSA employee to wake up and fall out of their chair when the alarms go off because of what I posted

Yep, the key words probably woke someone up!! Bet they don't appreciate your sense of humor!! Have any of them ever paid you a visit??

Not yet.

Are you sure of that because there has been no booms? :)

I had an ex-Marine teach me how to set up a tripwire using wire or string, mouse traps, nails and shotgun shells. It was pretty fun to hear the boom when the wire gets tripped, but not sure I'd use it to defend my property under normal circumstances. Too ways for things to go seriously wrong.

I like stake pits and leg traps myself, but then I can be a bit sadistic when someone threatens me.

trip wires and pungi sticks.
a "hedgehog" for the vehicles- a piece of wood with lots of nails sticking out of it.
all for POST SHTF use naturally!!:p

Discussing such horrible devices is never considered a good idea, However, knowing what each is good for, how to make and use them and how to detect them is a good use of one's time.
Rakes, punji pits, pinch pits, Dead falls and shin springs are a few of the most common. All of these devices are meant to severely wound and demoralize a light enemy force. All of them are illegal, non-discriminating terror tactics that can get you or your enemy. They are commonly used on well traveled trails which is easy to defeat just by traveling off-trail. Tiger pits are less lethal but will easily contain two enemy combatants. All of these take a lot of work to build and set and are not really viable defenses. For me they fit in the same group as "coyote getters" and automatic bows. They are mostly a waste of time and resources. Simple warning fences or remote cameras that trigger alarms are better in most situations. Passive IR and sound detectors are also good.
I would not go into details on the passive and active systems that I use or will use for OpSec reasons but I am willing to discuss the pros and cons of any system you may want to talk about.

For people who live in areas with a bunch of wildlife, it would be difficult to keep the critters from triggering your traps.

Long long long ago I was working in an Alaska gun store, and a really old sourdough showed up just before we opened, he knocked politely at the door, we let him in the shop, we locked the door, he said he was leaving Alaska and had a few guns he wanted to sell or put on consignment. I had read stories back in the 50's and 60's about him, he built one of the early roadhouses long ago, he also guided and trapped.

Now remember he had a few guns to sell.......He was to old to be able to bring the guns in, so several of us young men went out to bring them in the shop, yep there were a few......I stopped counting at 120 and there were more. I kind'a recall someone said 135 or 136 total.

Well it was soon clear, "WE HAD A PROBLEM". We quickly locked the store doors, and put up a hand made sign, "Plumbing problem, closed till noon".

Sadly we did not photo the collection, which truly is very sad, for it was an unbelievable experience to view. We could not photo it as many many many were not legal, and sadly for history we destroyed many of them. But was an education for me about the very things we discuss about survival, and using what you have to survive. If you truly love classic firearms, can you imagine the experience of viewing classic original firearms that would bring $2,000.00 to $3,500.00 destroyed because they had been turned into Set-guns, for trapping back when that was legal.

Has anyone thought of using these? A guy I knew came up with this idea 7 or 8 years ago. They are cheap alarms with a magnetic trigger that can be had at the dollar store for about $1. They are for doors, windows or cabinets if you have little kids.

Say you are on the move... need some sleep... Yet would like to know if anyone is following you or approaching your camp.

These cheap alarms are a rig and forget item. A friend and I tested one. Inside a house they are deafening. Out in nature they are audible at 900yds (fields, pastures, some timber). We tested one during a rain storm... barely audible at 150yds... Rig them up across a trail with fishing line. This way you have some warning that someone or something is approaching.

The batteries are good for 3 years. I then buy 4 or 5 more and keep them in the bob. They only weigh a couple of grams.
