@Tank-Girl and @Amish Heart need a laugh? A couple years ago I was gifted a bunch of canning jars. Hubby said "Now we have to think of some sort of gift so we can get rid of them." I can't imagine the look I gave him. I said "I actually don't mind having them. If anything ever happened that electric was out for an extended time or freezer went out etc., I would be canning meat like a crazy woman." He said he hadn't thought of that. Pretty good thinking
Today I got to do my first pickin' of peas. Only canned up 3 pints, but after not getting any last year, I was thrilled. Looking forward to a "real" batch or 7 :). I did learn something. Up the mt. if I went over pressure it wasn't a big deal. Down here, the lower pressure isn't a suggestion. It's a must. They look pretty soft. I'll us these in soups etc.

Gotta have those canning jars!
Every once in a while I find a coupon for $1.50 off a box of them in the Sunday paper. Then I gotta get more.
I spray painted the lids and rings black on some pint sized jars, drilled a small hole in the lid, and bought some fancy knobs and put them on top. They are in the bathroom holding qtips, cotton balls, etc....
Not just for food.

My BIL came to stay with Granny for a few days so I was able to can up some chopped tomatoes, candied jalapenoes, pumpkin puree, zucchini for trying later and spaghetti sauce. BIL left this last Sat so I get in what I can. I ended up cooking a couple cookie sheets of chopped tomatoes yesterday and have them in the refrigerator to puree for some more spaghetti sauce. Today is another doctor visit for my husband in the big city and on our way home going to be picking up a cow at the processors. After we get home, it will be put all away and get dinner made, then grannys. A friend is covering for us while we are away today.

I had no idea that long term care cost so much for sitters now that granny needs 24/7 care. At $12,098 a month, it is just something we can afford, even as a family for very long. We are currently remodeling the bathroom with a walk in shower and putting in handicap bars for granny to move in. Should only be a few more weeks before the install. We are also expanding our closet to fit everything that is in the spare bedroom.

I am hoping that once she is here, I can have more time in the garden when hunny is home. . . I have to admit, it has never looked so sad with all the weeds. I still need to start making watermelon jelly scanning up cantaloupe and more jalapenoes. Eggplant and okra should be coming in soon too.

I did get in 7 more quarts of spaghetti sauce after coming home from granny lunch and her health care visit. Felt like I was running a marathon today so Sent my hunny to take granny her dinner tonight without me. My plan is shower and bed esrly. Have to go back to the real job tomorrow.

got 7 quarts of chicken broth canned. didn't feel real good today. daughter actually canned that for me. she also got the boston butt ready to can.. so maybe i'll feel better tomorrow. she is also getting the dehydrators set up for whatever is in the freezer that needs to come out.

Wow, @Dani you have your hands full. Whenever we get to build our forever house, we have planned to build a "Granny suite" for whichever parents are in need of such a thing. Also, when the time comes, perhaps it will be us in it. There is something to be said about the generations living near or with each other. Think how much time and miles you will save.

I did get a few more jars of peas canned last night. Will still need more.

My tomato strainer was delivered on the very day I found out my tomatoes are worthless tastless rocks.

I pray that the 42 roma vf tomato seedlings I germinated will produce better fruit for sauce.

Hope they work out for you. We've always grown the Romas.

We picked green beans this evening so I'll hopefully get them in the canner tomorrow. Might have to save a few out fresh just to eat. This was our first picking so there will be more to come. Will also have to get more peas dunked in the magic canner soon. I actually have two canners which is handy. It's the getting the veggies all ready for the canner that takes the time.

Wife put up 2 rounds of blueberry in a syrup. Also made a double batch of blueberry preserves. We down now to just getting a handful to eat fresh now. But boy were they good this year.

Gonna hit up some produce markets tomorrow and see if we can find a couple bushels of maters. I was so late with ours they just aren't filling in like I expected. So we're gonna buy some now to at least get some put away now. Maybe we'll get a good amount later of our own.
