Wow, Mule,
Glad to see your doing ok.
God bless you man.

Thanks Spike , and all the well wishers here, and for all your thoughts and prayers.

I'm too busy right now to spend a lot of time here, but I read a lot of posts.
Keep us up to date my friend.

I'm ready for Monday and hope I'm OK as you :)

My knee surgery is very complicated due to other serious health issues, so may take a while for recovery.

Jim

Thought I would check in. Was in surgery yesterday for about 6 1/2 to seven hours. I’m doing ok just really sore since I had two opening’s in my stomach and 6 small 2” openings in my back, surgeon found a couple other spots in my back that needed attention so he cleaned them up. He told my wife he didn’t know how I was even walking much less working every day
Glad to hear surgery went good for you. Just follow their instructions and you'll be back at it soon.

Thank you guys they got me up for a while yesterday to walk. Hard part was getting out of bed and getting back in to the bed. They are slowly increasing my diet from broth and juice to fuller food. I’m just really sore but so far most of my leg pain is gone and I’m feeling better other than the soreness

Just adding a quick update:

I’m home and starting the healing process. They released me Tuesday night and so glad to be home! I’m doing good and according to the surgeons, nurses and PT staff I’m doing amazing for the type of surgery I had. I’m really sore and I know it’s going to be a long slow steady recovery. I’m walking around with the help of a walker and I start in home physical therapy tomorrow. I’m able to get up and down the three steps from our living area to the bedroom. I’m restricted to lifting 10lbs or less and no bending or twisting. My neurosurgeon decided not to put me in a back brace since I’m doing so good. I try to get up and move around the house every hour.

Biggest issue is getting in and out of bed, it’s a slow process so I’m not twisting or putting any lateral stress on my back. They went through my belly and I have a 7” incision just left of my belly button going down to just above my groin area and three 4” incisions in my back just above my pants line.

Fortunately a friend of ours gave us an older lazyboy power recliner about a year ago that his mom had before she passed away and it’s been a big help and we had just bought a new bed that has a power base to raise the head or feet.

Now for the good part I can actually feel my toes for the first time in about 8 years, the throbbing and burning and feeling like I’m constantly being bitten by fire ants is gone, for the first time in about eight years I feel like I have circulation in my legs, the tingling in my thighs and feet are gone and I can actually stand up straight without feeling like the back of my legs are ripping apart.

Surgeon said there was more damage than the mri showed and he got all that fixed and cleaned up as well and was very pleased with everything from how the surgery went, how well I did during the surgery and how well I was recovering. He said I should see even more improvement as the swelling goes down and should have long lasting improvement and benefits from it.

We have been so blessed by our neighbors, friends and church family. People have come and mowed and weed eated our large yard, brought us food, helped my wife get me out of the car and into our house, powerwashed our ramp so it wouldn’t be slick and just checked on us regularly to see if they could do anything for us. My wife is exhausted but has been a great help with me. I’m so thankful to everyone for the prayers and well wishes from everyone.

Hi Jim, We are still keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and hope your doing as good as Mule. Take care my longtime cyber friend.:huggs:.

@mulescj8 amazing how they can cut away and fix things up. Great results for you already. Feel like your new self! I bet you're glad to be home though. Learning how to maneuver around with new instructions and restrictions is hard! Been there and done that. Prayers definitely work. I hope your wife gets some rest, it is hard being a caregiver sometimes.

Thought I would do another update. I went back for my first check up since my surgery on July 18th and had xrays done. Surgeon said everything looks great and I’m healing up well. I’ve gotten to the point in the last few days that I can now get up and down without using the walker. I’m able to get in and out of bed fairly easy now.

I’m about 95% pain free compared to what I was dealing with before my surgery. Surgeon told me I can start increasing my activity and I can pickup on things 20lbs or less.

Still a little sore but that is expected but things are getting easier every day.

Hey Mule,
sounds great man. Advances today in the med field is incredible.
Glad that your progressing so well.
Like you I'm just waiting for the healing to complete. Sounds like your another tough old fart.
You can't keep a good man down.

Little update...
Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers,

I had the new left knee installed on July 22nd. was up walking same day (with nerve block still active). 2nd day I had a BP issue, and required an extra day in hospital.
I had to walk the hallway and up and down 2 stairs before I could go home. Tough , but doable with proper pain control meds.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks, I'm weaning off the Oxycodone, and taking it very slowly, with very minor pain.
Walking a lot, stretching and bending a lot....don't go back to see Surgeon till 6 weeks after surgery.
Went out last night to eat...very uncomfortable just sitting with leg down. Too early.

Home care/rehab says , I right on target for rehab.

About 8 weeks from now, Oct 14th, I'll be going back for the right knee.

I've been thru more painful surgeries , but none as debilitating.
This one , for 3 weeks, has kept me at very low profile.
They say , another 3 weeks, will be much better.

Jim

Keep your head down and keep plugging away at it Jim. It gets better. You'll be shooting offhand with a 50BMG in no time flat!
Only a shooter would know what another shooter wants to do.
I just been telling the wife ..." I just want to go down to the range and shoot"
I can't wait to load up 1/2 dozen rifles and hand guns , ton of ammo, and just sit and shoot.

I was just telling one of my FFL guys this same thing yesterday lol

Jim hang in there! Take one thing, one day at a time. Hopefully we will both bounce back stronger and faster lol

In the mean time I’m already thinking about and working on future projects and hunting for bargains with all this free time.

Little update.
25 days since new knee.
Walking around house without any assistance, and without pain, except when that PT gal comes..
