Great story.
I've carried a pocket knife since I was 8. My Grandpa gave me my first one and showed me how to sharpen it. If a teacher needed a knife they always ask for mine because they knew I had one and it was sharp. Today I have a big box of knives, every brand and type, including one that belonged to my Grandpa. Sadly the one Grandpa gave me is gone. When and how I have no clue. I have 2 I carry every day and sometimes a third. Lately my go to knife is a Swiss Army knife, one without a corkscrew or saw blade.

I used to always have a Buck Knife on the belt when I was working. I retired it a while ago for a Cabela’s Multi-tool. Much more useful to me these days. I found it to be very sturdy, well made and holds a good edge. I have several at home. Anymore when I find something I like, I purchase a couple after giving them a test run. Most items I find useful or worthwhile always go out of stock or they change them up and they are not the same. And… The old memory ain’t what it used to be and I know I am more than likely to lose at least one along the way, so have a backup at home and one in the vehicle.

I do not understand folks who do not carry one either. I feel kind of naked and useless without one on me, even if I do not need it.

What about us women? I have three Swiss Army knives, but one is the smallest one they make, so hardly worth mentioning. I have a few other pocket knives. I keep a knife in my purse, a couple in my car and a couple in my BOB. They were sharpened by a couple guys since they were last used. I used to have a sharpening stone, and it has disappeared. I think having one in a BOB is a good idea.

I gave my grand daughter a Swiss army knife for her birthday 2 years ago. She didn't lose it or get in trouble. This Bd she turned 13 and got a buck 102 fixed blade engraved. I figured if some lowlife steals it she might get it back.

My Papaw gave me my first one to carry when I started first grade. It was a 2 blade small Old Timer. Wish I still had it. No idea what went with it. I started collecting them some in my early teens and have no clue where they ended up at. Almost always carried one ever since. My EDC is a Kershaw Leek. But I have a bunch of pocket knives and quite a few fixed blades and multi tools as well. I carry a small day pack/laptop bag to work every day. I normally have a second pocket knife and a multi tool in it. Other blades in all the vehicles.

The small Swiss Army knife that I mentioned earlier? One year I gave everyone in my family a Swiss Army knife for Christmas, the smallest one is what all the females got. I can tell you that some of them were thrilled. I used to keep mine on my key chain, but there is a tweezer and a pick. The pick fell out and was lost, so I decided it was best not to carry it around on my key chain and have it get beat up there.

A knife and flashlight are always on my person, among other things. I feel naked without them.

I was at a gathering a few years ago for a company Christmas party, an odd mix of rural and urban folks. There was a gag Christmas gift exchange and we gathered under the tree. One of the city folks needed some help with opening a present and said “I don’t suppose anyone has a knife”. Every one of the rural men reached for their pockets and every rural woman reached for her purse. In an instant 10 couples produce 20 knives.

agreed, and they only arrest the innocent going about their business, like the old guy who had a knife in his car so he could peel an apple for his wife, instead of the gang members doing all the killings.
they are scared and cant arrest the gang members because their all ethnics, would be seen as a racial thing.

Amazon sells replacements if you still need one.

Dad had a bunch of knives. I grabbed a nice large folder for an emergency car kit and a couple others. I've carried a knife everyday since 1971 and often before that.

When I was a kid I carried what we called a Boy Scout knife all the time. Two blades, a screwdriver/bottle opener, a can opener and a leather awl. Still carried one of them, beaten up but sharp, until I found a 3-blade Schrade Old Timer in the local Tractor Supply last fall. Good steel.

I was blessed to inherit a couple of my father’s knives and some of my grandfathers as well. Not my EDC knives but something special just because of the history. Also a couple of my grandfather’s hatchets, including a stone one he built himself, not super practical but it hangs on the wall in my house. My boys learned well, they are teaching their children to use and carry a knife safely. Maybe gramps’ stuff wil end up being owned by my grandkids.

I love Shrade knives (the old ones before they switched to Chinese manufacuring) also Buck. I have carried both brands for years. I hav3 a couple older German fixed blades with Soligen steel that my father and grandfather picked up in the military. Very good quality.

I've got a few knives from both my grandads. Also got a old roofing hatchet that Papaw cracked. You would have had to know him to appreceiate that. We don't have any kids, so no telling where they will end up at.
