I ordered an 18 qt roaster from Walmart so I can be more efficient when canning dog food since I have more to do now with the new pup. Also got a second weight set a few weeks ago so I can run 2 pressure canners at once--Presto- a 16 qt. and a 23 qt.

Tomorrow I will hit a grocery store about 10 miles away. They have boneless skinless chicken for 99 cents a pound and I intend to stock up so I can grind some for sausage and burger as well as have plenty on hand for us and dog food. They have a few other things on sale I will get too!

Finally getting cool weather on Saturday --70-- so I have a kid coming over to help me deep clean the goat shed. It's a twice a year job.

Have you thought about a keyboard with larger illuminated letters? I believe Ivation makes these.

You can also change the font size on your puter to larger letters so you can see them better on the screen.

Granny came home from the hospital late in the night Oct 1st, so BIL stayed with us, sleeping on the couch. I was up at the normal 3 am to get Granny dressed and ready for the day, then put back to bed since I had to go to work. When I got home, she was ok but by that evening she was off again. Back to the ER we went. She was a little dehydrated so given fluids and sent home around 4:30 am on Thur morning. Thursday we had her switched from Home Health to Hospice. She was good until Sunday morning. She had a major diarrhea explosion that morning. She was so weak I had to get my hunny to come and help me move her to the rolling walker after cleaning her up as much as I could while she was in bed still. We have her a shower then went back to the ER. She really didn't want to and I knew better, but my hunny needed it. We were told her heart is just giving out.
Everyone in the family was contacted and they all trickled in. Monday Granny was awake and alert most of the day with most all of the immediate family surrounding her. I even took off work which should say something since the last time was back in 2012 for when my dad passed. She was talking Monday, speaking in what I call tongues since no one could understand her, saying unknown words to us and then breaking out singing 'In the Garden'. All in almost one breath, looking at me and just giving me the biggest grin ever. . . . Three of the boys were here that night and one of their wives that is a nurse practitioner. I did not have to worry about her meds. We had stopped the normal but was giving her comfort drugs that night. I barely slept finally just staying with her at 3 am so son 2 could get some sleep too. On Tues, she never woke again passing at 11:48 am. The hospice nurse got out here around 12:15 to pronounce and get her body ready for transport. my DIL helped with that and since my SIL never took care of Granny while she was alive, I let her do that. Granny was no longer there. . . . It was just her earthly body. I felt like I was there for her when she needed it and feel no regrets. Sheriff came out to make their report too.
So fast forward to today, we finally have everything set to go for a wake tomorrow evening with a service on Sat morning. Burial is at a later date since she wanted to be cremated.

I am so thankful for everyone's thoughts and prayers. We have had many issues with my sweet hunny & brother and SIL. I have even had to step in when my hunny has been completely wrong. . . If I didn't son 2 said he was about to. . . It's difficult when everyone doesn't get along, but I do totally understand my hunny feelings. We just need to make it thru these next 2 days. I may have to be done after that to keep my own sanity.

Picking all the green tomatoes. Mad at the stupid racoons that frequent our front porch. Decapitated a young Transylvanian Naked Neck and ate an entire whole other one. Two left. Rewired and moved the cage. Kids have eye dr appts, and then they play (marching band) at the football game tonight. They'll be home late. Got granddaughter's flight booked for a week at Thanksgiving. Need to book 2 weeks at Christmas.

Strong winds last night...all the leaves are blown off the peach trees...hubby came in the house and wanted the pecan cracker, I handed it to him and he cracked one from down at our old place...OH MY, beautifully filled out, wonderful taste, need to pick some up as they fall and allow them to dry....will have more fall with the first frost....

Temps dropped into the 20's last night so I woke up to a 63 degree house. Thus I started my day with some furnace maintenance and replaced the huge Aprilaire filter. It's like 8" thick but it does a great job. Then I fired it up and got the house back up to a warm 65 degrees, although I did have a few requests to raise it higher. I suggested sweaters and blankets instead.

The rest of my day has been spent supervising my children plus 2 add-ons kids over for play dates, cooking meals, exercising dogs, changing light bulbs, oiling hinges, tightening screws, cleaning out and disinfecting the fridge, making a grocery list, and spending time on the internet. Plus of course shopping for guns. You never know when that can't miss out on deal will pop up!

Temp dropped 20 deg in last hour.

Do I turn on heat pump, or light the small bit of wood and kinling in the stove to save money tonight ?

Jim

If I had a wood stove that's would I would be doing. Temps will be back up in a few days.

I actually got a lot done today, started with laundry…

A month or so ago I got 3 laying hens from a neighbor, one died 2 weeks ago leaving us with not enough eggs for the week. My neighbor was kind enough to sell me another today ($5), a nice RIR about 9 months old.

I vacuum sealed and put in the freezer what was left of the pound of pulled pork I got in town yesterday. I sealed 3 big sandwiches worth individually...

I’ve been wanting to do a little camo painting so I took the tractor down to the bottoms to harvest some ferns… One can of camo paint was stopped up, another color was empty. I tried out the colors I had left on the dog house, not very good. Paint is now on the shopping list.

I did some more organizing on the porch. I pulled out a spool of aircraft cable from the shop, I make game snares with it… I made a new tie-out cable for the dog so I can secure him to the porch (sometimes necessary during hunting season).

Oh, I got a dog bed for the dog house. Almost all the beds the store had was barely big enough for my 105lb sheppards head. The only big one they had was 50 inches X 40 inches, it would barely fit in the dog house but it will fit.
