Carlesbad caverns with the bats flying out at dusk.
What's funny is when i lived in Alaska I would be asked what we lived in and the best thing what kind of money do you use.I heard the entire Midwest has native American raiding parties, blankets covered in smallpox, and no internet. Plus I am pretty sure gas is like $10 a gallon. Best stick with the coastal states.
People think WV is part of Va lolI have heard people question if New Mexico is in the U.S.
When you plan the trip, let me know, it's a short hop for meI will be going to see this when both knees are healed.

We grew up eating them. Sorry if it offends anyone but we just called them calf nuts. I liked them cleaned and cooked properly but at the brandings, my dad would have to tell my brother and this old timer family friend to keep track of how many they ate. They would cook them on the fire with their pocket knives. Counted so we knew how many bull calves and how many heifer calves. I've never eaten them in a restaurant so can't speak to those but delicious if Ma cooks 'em.LadtL it is also the first and only time I ever saw ' Mountain Oysters ' on a menu. Traveling to Jersey about 45 yr ago we stopped at a little road side restaurant in the hills and there they were on the menu.
In Georgia we had pig ears and pork brains in the can. Maybe mountain orsters too not sure.
But you are right, it is beautiful country.

As I was reading these posts I thought of the Hoh River Rain Forest, one of the rainiest areas in the lower 48 states, I don't know if it's changed but the average yearly rainfall there was 200", grass grows right up to the edge of the pavement and moss hangs to the ground from the tree branches. If I hear of people traveling to Washington, I always tell them to take the coastal highway and visit the rain forest. If people come to Oregon they need to visit Crater Lake. Some people will not agree with you, but I do. Many people think of the plains states as boring. I love the prairie.
I think Washington state is beautiful. I found the Hoh Rain Forest pretty interesting. It is one of the Seven Wonders of Washington State. I camped when I was there, and would love to spend more time there.
I've been to Crater Lake as well. I have had lots of relatives live in the Klamath Falls area and north of there. I was there one year, maybe in March, and some of us drove up to Crater Lake. This is not my photo, but this was what we saw driving up there. It may not have been this deep, but it was something like this. Probably the deepest snow I have ever seen.As I was reading these posts I thought of the Hoh River Rain Forest, one of the rainiest areas in the lower 48 states, I don't know if it's changed but the average yearly rainfall there was 200", grass grows right up to the edge of the pavement and moss hangs to the ground from the tree branches.
