I heard the entire Midwest has native American raiding parties, blankets covered in smallpox, and no internet. Plus I am pretty sure gas is like $10 a gallon. Best stick with the coastal states.
What's funny is when i lived in Alaska I would be asked what we lived in and the best thing what kind of money do you use.

"Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a music venue unlike any other—a sandstone stadium forged by the elements and blessed with natural acoustics. Many musicians have taken to this stage, and when shows are in town, Red Rocks can host over 9,500 concertgoers, all in for a treat beyond the music: stellar views of the natural Colorado landscape."

So I've spent most of my life in Oregon and only recently moved to the Washington side so will show a few things from OR. Also for the easterners, it's pronounced OR-Gun. We know folks are foreigners when they say Orygone. :)

And a million trees with little rivers and clear blue mountain lakes. This on is about 15 Mls. from where I grew up.

In addition, over on the soggy side there are some beautiful beaches, the Columbia River for the north border, and numerous ski slopes across the state.

LadtL it is also the first and only time I ever saw ' Mountain Oysters ' on a menu. Traveling to Jersey about 45 yr ago we stopped at a little road side restaurant in the hills and there they were on the menu.
In Georgia we had pig ears and pork brains in the can. Maybe mountain orsters too not sure.
But you are right, it is beautiful country.

We grew up eating them. Sorry if it offends anyone but we just called them calf nuts. I liked them cleaned and cooked properly but at the brandings, my dad would have to tell my brother and this old timer family friend to keep track of how many they ate. They would cook them on the fire with their pocket knives. Counted so we knew how many bull calves and how many heifer calves. I've never eaten them in a restaurant so can't speak to those but delicious if Ma cooks 'em.

LadtL to tell you the truth I passed on em . But when I get hungry I get mean so I might chew em right off thr carcas if hungry enough.:dunno:

I was driving from Klamath Falls, OR to Medford, OR on the back roads.
I stopped at a place that overlooked thousands of acres of untouched forest.
I told my son I thought it was beautiful. He said no it isn't it's just all green.
The kid was spoiled living there. I told him I was moving him to North Dakota where trees are few and far between.
I drove past MultomaFalls last month. There was a sign in Troutdale that said the parking lot was full and the DOT had closed it. Lots of parking by the time we went past.
My advice for all the Californians is to just keep stopping in Oregon. Don't bother moving farther North there really isn't anything here to see.

Some people will not agree with you, but I do. Many people think of the plains states as boring. I love the prairie.

I think Washington state is beautiful. I found the Hoh Rain Forest pretty interesting. It is one of the Seven Wonders of Washington State. I camped when I was there, and would love to spend more time there.
As I was reading these posts I thought of the Hoh River Rain Forest, one of the rainiest areas in the lower 48 states, I don't know if it's changed but the average yearly rainfall there was 200", grass grows right up to the edge of the pavement and moss hangs to the ground from the tree branches. If I hear of people traveling to Washington, I always tell them to take the coastal highway and visit the rain forest. If people come to Oregon they need to visit Crater Lake.

I've been to Crater Lake as well. I have had lots of relatives live in the Klamath Falls area and north of there. I was there one year, maybe in March, and some of us drove up to Crater Lake. This is not my photo, but this was what we saw driving up there. It may not have been this deep, but it was something like this. Probably the deepest snow I have ever seen.

I've been trying to remember my only trip through Oregon. We went up I-5 from CA then I think we took I-64 east. Don't ask me how we got from I-64 to Jackson WY/Grande Tetons. I know we came into Jackson from the west or southwest.

It was a wonderful trip. Two navy buddies and I were transferred at the same time from Mare Island CA to the east coast (2 of us to Norfolk VA, the other to Jacksonville FL). The navy gave us 14 days travel time and we each took 2 additional weeks of leave.

It was June and we went sight seeing... I know I drove just over 7000 miles between CA and VA. We stopped and saw everything. Anything to stop and see on I-64 we stopped... We saw the grand Tetons then Yellowstone... We were at Mt Rushmore in the Black Hills for the 4th of July celebration and fireworks.

Sort of funny, we stopped for supplemental pay at Ellsworth airforce base in SD. (at that time when traveling on military orders... a service member could stop at any military installation for supplemental pay on a regular payday.) It was the first time anyone ever called me Sergeant. I had just been promoted before leaving CA. I guess my new navy rank was the air force equivalent of Sergeant. I was waiting to be payed and I kept hearing "Sergeant Sam" "Sergeant Sam" being paged overhead. I finally realized that they were paging me!

I'll spare you pictures of New York City because everyone's seen them and that's actually really far from where I am. Here are some shots nearer to me.
