What?
Yep! When we were dating my now wife was there when my mom called. I talked for a couple minutes then laid the phone down on the counter. Every few minutes I'd pick it up listen for a few seconds and say, "yes" at an appropriate time then lay the phone back on the counter. She couldn't believe what she was seeing but figured it out and started laughing. She still mentions it four decades later.
I swear I overheard " lemon icebox pies" last night.

I lay the phone down when mom calls all the time. If I tell her to hold on a minute, she doesn't pay any attention, and keeps on talking, so I just put the phone down. She called yesterday and I was shocked that she asked me what I was doing. She never asks questions. She just talks for 2 hours.
My MIL thought I was the most agreeable person alive. When she would talk to me I would just smile and nod my head. I didn't hear anything she said for her last 7 years.
