Black Friday is the opening of the Christmas sale season. That is why it is AFTER Thanksgiving.

Saved money yesterday by not going to Alidi's for anything.
Took hard realistic look at budget.
The rest of November and most of December will be hard scrabble months.
No room in budget for extras like store bought gifts for Christmas.
Everything will be stitched with love, but nothing store bought this year.
Taxes on car went up, car needs a oil change, no money saved for that as of yet, utilities here went up(weather is crazy),the list just goes on, on.....
I'm putting together recipe cook books for the kids(2,4,6,8) kid friendly cookbooks.
In the progress of making scrappy yarn blankets for their beds.
Using what I have, making do.
My trip is off the table.
Don't have the money saved, won't put the trip on credit card, so just won't go.
It's funny about the blankets though the kids have watched me for months crochet blankets for veterans.
Now I'm working on their blankets, they're still asking questions about the veterans blankets.
Me I just smile and keep crocheting.

But the rest of the world doesn't celebrate thanksgiving so why would they wait until after an American holiday to start the shopping sales?

@WVDragonlady I am all for saving money too but I think it because they are trying to get Australians to spend money and retail sales are low here so they have adopted the "Black Friday" label to do it. Before this the big sales days were the "Boxing Day" sales.

Just heard that a company that has been in Australia for 166 years is closing due to the competition in the discount clothing etc sector and more long running companies going into administration too. It's a tough world in business here at the moment.

See above @Terri9630 .

Black friday sales were still in effect today at the big box store. I needed the following badly because my old sets were over 20yrs old, missing pieces, dull bits etc... 45pc driver set - 1/2 price... 21pc drill bit set marked down 30%. A big upgrade for my daily use headlamp to a led light, a dewalt with motion sensor for $11.

I used the headlamp tonight to check on the chickens... it's so much better than my old one it isn't even comparable.

@Sewingcreations15 Life is so much easier with proper tools. Up until 2000 when I came down with CFS I earned my living with tools. All my tools were quality professional sets. If something became worn or damaged I replaced it immediately. Since then... not so much. What I purchased today I've needed for several years. These should last another decade...

@Peanut we are the same now with a lower income so things have to be purchased when the funds or price is right to fit into the budget. Most around our country area are astonished at how well set up we are though as they don't have a lot of the tools we have. Having injuries or illnesses necessitates having extra equipment to make life easier especially with DH's back injuries and we are getting older too :) .

Your welcome!
And AH's lunch.
Thanks, again Terri and hubby!
Your welcome! :D The kid still swears I didn't tell her she had an appointment. Of course she can't remember eating breakfast at McDonald's either.

I like her. The kid said the Doc was "ok". When the Doc said they were going to check her A1C she said "I told you they were going to stick a needle in me!" and made me hold her hand. The doc just smiled and I laughed because it was just a finger prick.

Got to day 4 without spending any money.

Yesterday I busted as we picked up some really well discounted a half leg of ham, some wholemeal bread rolls, donuts, and DH's favourite bacon and cheese rolls but did save $19.46 by coupling the discounts ($10 off the leg of ham) and using our 5% off roadside assist supermarket gift card. With the discounts that brought our Christmas ham down to $6.44 kg which is a bargain here.

We will slice the whole ham up into meal sized portions and freeze it so it should last us well past Christmas in the freezer.

Back to day 1 of not spending any money today.

Yesterday my wife technically saved money on baking supplies. Her family, who was here for Thanksgiving, left behind 3 or 4 full bottles of Grey Goose Vodka. She told them that we did not want them and would not store them for next time they visited, but they left them behind anyway. So now we have several bottles full of what will be Grey Goose Vanilla Extract.

Dang Sentry, your inlaws must be loaded (pun intended).;) Grey Goose is not cheap!

There were so many German cars in our driveway over thanksgiving that the local VFW sent over reinforcements. :D

My father-in-law didn't drive here however. He flew one of his airplanes here from his winter house in Arizona.

:green man:I'm pretty sure I'm still eligible for adoption. Need a little sister? I always wanted a big brother!

My family is all cops on or waiting for gov't pensions, same boat you're already in. I will check with my wife but she already has a sister and two brothers, all of whom have probably already planned out what they are going to do with their inheritance.

Well darn!

Hubby just made the final payment on his last credit card! So all of them are paid off in full. I so proud of him!!! Now he needs to only use one card and pay it off every month like I do mine.
He sold his 50. cal to pay the card off

Congratulations to him (and you). Credit cards can quickly fall in the same category as cigarettes, pain killers, and junk food; addictive and detrimental.

I think I'm going to try something beginning Jan 1. I did it once before and was sorta successful. I am going to try not spending any money other than milk, veggies, and regular bills. When I did it before, I think I made it to April. Will see if I can beat that. It does require a little planning so I need to look at the calendar and see what's on the docket. The past few months, I've kinda stocked the pantry pretty well. I'll keep you posted. Feel free to join me on the adventure:)

Day 5 of not spending any money today :) .

The ginger cordial sounds fantastic @Tank-Girl :) . We make our own orange, lemon and rose petal cordial here too but haven't made any in a while but probably should.

@LadyLocust think we all have to use our own techniques that work to save money and hope it works better for you :).

@WVDragonlady absolutely fantastic your husband has paid off all his credit cards :) .
