And don't forget ' rocks'. Something that is lacking in Florida. We used them to skim across our lake or build things like forts, fire pits etc.. But we also stumped our toes on them or got hit if the thrower did n't know that hiding inside that clump of red mud was a rock.

And trees to make tree huts.

All bring back great memories. Not sure you would call them toys, but I can't remember a time when I wasn't riding a bicycle with my baseball glove hanging on the handle bars.

Oh yeah. Again, not sure you consider it a toy, but the Red Rider BB gun we all used to "hunt ". That took up every Saturday morning for a couple of years.

That's the Problem with Kids Today, they have never Experienced the Simple Pleasures that you Speak of. I still Remember Riding my Bike, Playing Ball, Swimming in the Lake, Ice Skating, Fishing, and many more Activities that Kids Today have never Experienced, but I want to go back and do it all over again.

This is why the primary gift we give to our children every year is an "experience". We have them all mapped out and each one is individualized for the child. Like our 11 year old is going to a christian music concert with her mom, another child and I are going to go shooting the first Wednesday of every month just the two of us, yet another child is going to go out for manicure and pedicure with her her oldest sister, etc.

Trees,; for climbing, building mini cabins, building rafts, making spears for grouse hunting and a multitude of other good stuff.
I should also add a pocket knife and a hatchet.
I used to be a tree climber. You could find me in one tree in particular almost every day. I loved having a tree house. Good clean fun.

As a child my bicycle was everything. The amount of miles I put on that thing were amazing. Rain, snow, summer, etc. my friends and I were always out riding. While it was not as cheap as a stick or a box, it provided considerably more value than it cost.

Old tire hanging from the highest limb of the big oak tree in the back yard.

Sit inside it, while cousins and siblings pushed you high , and you could swing .

Homemade toys were the best..the stilts my dad made for us to walk around on when not swinging in the tire.

Jim
The tire swing was great. How about tree houses/tree forts? I built one myself when I was around 9. Nailed pieces of scrap 2x4 to the tree for a ladder then nailed plywood and whatever scrap lumber I could find to two thick branches to create a (sort of) level platform. Nowadays my dad would be led off in handcuffs for letting me play in that unsafe thing, 10 feet off the ground. Truth is, I had more fun building it than playing in it...

My daughter's favorite when she was a wee one was an empty milk jug with a couple rocks in it. Put lid back on and shake shake make noise and giggle. I remember playing "tether bottle" with a friend. She used a bleach jug with a little water in it and some twine to make a "tether ball." We had fun.

^^^We had a tether ball pole on the farm. It was a flagpole set into an old tire filled with concrete for a base. That thing was way more fun than it looked...

Old bleach jugs had another use. Take a sharp knife and cut it right, and you had a sand scooper with a convenient handle. I did a lot of digging with those...

Trees were my favorite. I spent a lot of time out in our woods growing up. Just had to watch the cow pies. A close second would be playing in the barn. Spent many hours at both.

Us too except the cow pies ,we had lots of snakes in Stone Mountain. Bet yall had lots of thise.

LadyL My middle child liked plain old pots and pans to rattle.

Yeah we had some black snakes. Kept a couple in the barns. Mom hates snakes as bad as the wife does. LOL

We had some black ones too but mostly rattle and cotton mouths.M brother pushed me away from a huge diamond back,I thought he was starting a fight but he saw the coiled snake ,mama shot it and kept the fangs for years. Guess he saved me from getting bit. I was lucky I always had snakes threatening me. mamas the only one that got bit though.
