Catching up here as I haven't done it in ages is that we purchased -

- 50 more disposable lighters.
- a 30 mt roll of flyscreen.
- A pair of fencing pliers.
- An extra carton of powdered milk, tinned lychees and mangoes.
- Added to the medicine cabinet with panadol forte, Endone and Stellax (baclofen). DH gets a bulk script for the 12 boxes Forte due to his massive back injuries for $6.50 and it saves us $71.50 over buying individual packets of it at a discounted pensioner rate of $6.50 each box. Our friend the doctor let us in on this secret of getting medications far cheaper and yes him and his family are preppers too :) .

For the last week or so I've been ignoring a feeling or "push" to buy more LTS. All of across the board. Meat, dairy, veggies and fruits. But I'm planning on starting next week getting one case a month so I don't run up my CC.
Also have a "push" to buy more flour and cornmeal so I can freeze it and then thaw and vacuum seal and to add to my sugar supply.
Have a "feeling" that I need to start up the dehydrating again. I stopped because I had SO much that I didn't have any room anywhere and I needed to use it up so it wouldn't go bad, but its down to 1/4 of what it was ( which was a lot). I need to build it back up
Hubby is on a pineapple kick so I want to dehydrate some for him
I have gallons of frozen tart cherries I have to dehydrate

I need to make a master list so I can track it all and mark off what I get finished

I don't know where this "push" is coming from. It just started

Me, too, in case people couldn't tell by my new threads. I have more threads that I want to start about preparedness.

Yum on the tart cherries!

Polosi's threat that if President Trump declares an emergency to protect the south border an emergency declaration could be declared for addtional second amendment restrictions? Or Cleaver declaration?

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday issued a warning to Republicans poised to support President Trump's decision to declare a national emergency at the southern border: the next Democratic president, she said, could do the same on guns."

"
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) also shared a tweet calling several issues championed by Democrats, such as climate change and income inequality, a "national emergency."
Gun violence is a national emergency

Climate Change is a national emergency

Income inequality is a national emergency

Access to healthcare is a national emergency

Building a wall on the southern border is not."

Well, if the next democrat president wants a civil war then calling for more restrictions or complete bans is definitely the way to go.
The last time our government tried to confiscate arms and ammunition We kicked their assets out and built a new government. I have a new constitution ready to print.

The democrats are running scared as they see their supply of illegal votes disappear so they are making all types of threats and pulling all the dirty tricks they can.

To get this thread back on track. I just received my hand crank coffee grinder in the mail. WHAT! While researching the link I found out what she paid for it. Excuse me while I go beat the wife.

Way back wife bought me a really nice 6 foot fiberglass step ladder form Sears. Did I say it was "Really nice"? About a week later Sears called, there was a mistake, they forgot to charge for shipping, WHICH DOUBLE THE COST OF THE LADDER! I took the hour to drive to their store, showed a manager the receipt that was marked paid, manager would not back down, we still owe for shipping. "Fine" I said "I want to return the ladder." They refunded the money for the ladder. They lost the sale and lost a customer, ain't too bright in my book. Stopped on the way home and bought a 6 foot wood step ladder, gave the wife the left over money. Still have that wood ladder and every-time I use it I think how really nice (and lite) that fiberglass ladder was.

You can buy that here at yard sales for a couple of bucks.
Or at estate sales cause kids don't know what they have or what they will need in the future.

I have seen them on Craigslist for $5. I saw one that I wanted, but just never got it together to get it. I think I was still teaching then, too busy to do anything else.

Aw Caribou.....it seems your wife's heart was in the right place.:) It sure beats the stories I've heard about spouses who refuse to help prep for anything.

Thanks for posting that. It looks like this was the thing I bought this summer at a garage sale for $5. I just remembered I never got around to posting a pic of it so ya'll could identify it. Now.....if I get some green coffee beans to store, I have a whirley pop that I could roast them in, and then could use this to grind the beans. I wonder if there's anywhere online to get a bargain on coffee beans? What is a good price?

I had to go in town today so I stocked up on some pasta that was on sale. I noticed the pantry was getting low during organizing last week so I was glad to see it on sale. Perfect timing!

Been thinking about what I can do in the event that my pension goes away or the Gov. makes things extremely difficult in the
event of another glitch/ hacker event which terminates my pension.

Gold prices are on the rise and I live slap bang in gold territory.

I'm putting some of my pension into a Minelab gold panning kit, a turbo pan and a wonder mat sluice.
With all the rain we've had the alluvial gold will wash down into the creeks.

I've already rung my favourite bullion dealer and they buy "raw" unrefined gold from the public.

I've got some ideas brewing in my head.

From what I have seen, and depending upon where you are, panning for gold can be fun, or a lot of work.

I won't try my hand at any local creeks until the end of the dry season - 9 months.
I don't want to wade around in water that contaminated by rotting animals.
I'll spend my time studying maps and watching YT videos about what to look for.
There are old gold workings still visible in some of the lower ranges so they'd be my first
places to look.

I just finished watching a chap on YT lament that his second wife and his step daughter refused point blank to eat the preps he had put aside for grid down emergency.
In his case it was a snow storm that took out power for 4+ days.
The preps/food was good. He even had Mountain House meals which they refused to eat.
He says he was forced to drive to the next town lunch and dinner and wait in line for over
30 mins to get served at fast food places like McDonalds for the whole time the power was out.

I think I'd be pretty steamed and while I guess people have preferences I'm just struck by sheer selfishness.
Maybe I'm odd.

I saw that video as well. My guess is that this will not be an uncommon scenario in a grid down situation. Family will have a fit about the stored food, but there will not be other options. Tank-girl, many people are very, very picky about their food. I know people who send back their food every time they eat out.

The thing about the man who made the video: it occurred to me that he was not really very prepared. I believe that any of us really having to depend on our preps will get a reality check about what we are missing. The man had Mountain House meals. They may be considered the best, but evidently not good enough for his family. He could have had a propane stove and they could have cooked like they usually do. He will figure it out, or not.
