A ponytail palm and several dracaena plants that I've had for about 10 years spend mid-spring thru mid-fall outside. We bring them in to over-winter in the garage and bathrooms. However, the dracaena are not safe to have around cats so that's an issue.
Maybe eventually I'll stop putting them outside, or chop them and make fresh starts.
They've probably gotten too tall or wide to transport.
Does anyone else have overly large houseplants that have outgrown the house? What did you do with yours?

I give them away, mostly to my sis in law who is a florist. I gave some of my bigger ones to our church that has a large foyer.

I have never had that happen, yet. I do have some avocados that are on the first floor and are rising up through the opening of the winding staircase. I don't know how long it will take them to be so big that they will be two floors high, Victorian floors, so more like 10 feet tall.

Mom has higher ceilings so she got the stuff the outgrew my place. I remember friends talking about selling plants to businesses to decorate their offices. It's a good way to bring in a few bucks. There aren't a lot of large plants for sale so they bring a good price.

Those flowers you mentioned sell for a minium of $35 each at a florist.
Been dealing with them all week.
It you have something called Elephant Ear, it needs lots of room, It will literally get the size of an Elephant's ear before it stops growing.

When I was a kid I would sit under the leaves and watch it rain. They made pretty good umbrellas.

We once had a monstera deliciosa, also called Philodendron or Swiss cheese plant, that got so big I ended up having to leave it outside where it froze. Leaves bigger than 3'x3', in a pot too big to finagle in through the small doorways. Whoops.
That's why succulents, cacti, and African Violets are good choices for houseplants.
