Do you ever see those types of plants available anywhere?
I used to have a tall ficus, an enormous monstera deliciosa, snake plants (we had 2 types), spider plants, ferns, different kinds of dracaenas, arrowhead vine, prayer plant, schefflera, jade plants, various other succulents, cacti, pothos, begonias, staghorn fern, geraniums, heart-leafed philodendron, rabbit's foot fern, 2 types of "inch plant", but we used to call it something else, peperomia, of course the aloes and African violets.

Seems to me there were more, but that's all I can remember as I look at online mail order plant companies.

I like to grow paperwhites at Christmas time.

Of course I speak to my plants.
You've heard of the experiments with rats and music, haven't you? Some got to listen to Classical (like Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, etc.); some were put in the heavy metal box and maze; another group in the pop music cage. Can you guess who did the best? Can you guess who starved and died? Can you guess who had very little improvement?

I had around 50 plants and left for the summer to go to school in Washington, DC. My classroom assistant volunteered to take them for the summer. I never saw them again. It had taken me years to build my plant collection. My angel wing begonia was my favorite grandmother's and it could not be replaced. :(

I have had some nice plants since, but some of those unique plants have never been replaced.

I have collected many plants since, and gave many away.

Everytthingg you all have named, I have had and grown at one time of life or another. Some times I had overwhelming amount of house plants; I had energy and desire to water, care for them. I also lived in a warmer climate and had better windows than now.
Right now, I have philodendron 'swiss' cheese plant, the one with huge leaves that get bigger with age, some herbs am overwintering, some kind of jungle cactus, staghorn fern, some citrus plants I have grown from seed, avocado plants from pits, begonia, clivia, spider plant, etc I swore I wasn't going to spend another cent on houseplants, but this winter (I live in Maine) I got so antsy to look at growing things, I went to a nursery and bought a half price begonia, a large one. It almost reminds me a one I had few years ago called 'baby dress'.....

I had a nursery for about 5 years & worked in another one for 15 years.
And a vegetable garden & orchard for 40 years.
That a lot of different plants, most are still used today in gardens.
All the house plant are still out there & easy to find on the WEB.

I have a Hoya that is in a very large pot with a rose trellis. I think if you walk too close, it would reach out and grab you! Also have a Christmas cactus. @MoBookworm1957 I say the same thing - that they thrive upon neglect. I once had an African violet that was happy and bloomed and bloomed. Once in a while when I was doing dishes I'd share some water. My mom came and said it was a mess and "fixed" it. It was dead within 2 weeks. FYI she can stick a pencil in the ground and it would grow. I am the one who plans on a 3% success rate with plants.:gardening:

I have a lime tree inside. Its still small but puts out fragrant flowers..and I have a few limes off it too. Aloe Vera and some nice flower bushy plant I got at home depot last year. I brought it inside last fall just to see if itd make it and it did. It will soon go outside again. It has in full bloom what looks kinda like mini petunias all over in all kinds of colors..very uplifting happy little plant. and two lavender babies in my window.

Right at the moment I have:
Pink stemmed Chinese Evergreen- know nothing about it.
Spathiphyllum(some kind Lily)- also know nothing about and it came with directions. Poisonous don't chew me up or swallow me.
Dieffenbachia -no clue and it came with directions too. Non edible.
Begonia type flower- might have a small clue on how to take care of this one.
English Ivy- enough said.
Phylumdryn-know about this one, not a lot but enough I won't kill it on accident.
Ornamental Pepper Medusa type plant- thrives on neglect this I can do. Non edible
Cacti of some sort- thrives on neglect this I can do.
Tulips-we'll see how it goes
Rose Moss this I know
Have no clue what the last one is or how to take care of it

.

The dieffenbachia also known as dumb cane, always with warnings about keeping it away from children and pets, as it is seriously poisonous.
But I'm sure Estelle & Strawberry ( your dream team) are fine at your place.
The Asian lily NH bought me for Mother's Day last year, the one I thought had died, is back with 3 sisters. Yay.

There are a number of varieties of Hoya. They are interesting plants. I have had a couple of them over the years. I like them, but I think I haven't had one since I lost my 50+ plants thirty years ago.
