    Multi generational living?

Our 29yo daughter, SIL, and granddaughter moved into our guest house September of last year when their house and a vehicle burned to the ground. They lived 5 minutes down the road so we already saw each other frequently but we hadnt lived together since she was 18. There’s been a few...

Are You Prepared for. . . (a serious question)

We’ve taken care of my grandma who died of cancer, my dad as he recovered/rehabilitated from Covid, and my son who required 24/7 nursing care all at home. Hopefully we will be able to care for any other family members at home & I have the knowledge, equipment, experience and skills to do so...

    What's Everybody Canning?

Ive been focusing on canning some meals. So far I’ve canned beef stew, chicken tacos, and bbq chicken. I’ll wait a few weeks and then try them before canning anymore. I’m going to can beef taco meat tomorrow. My daughter and I canned some salsa last weekend but the other kids each took a jar...

    What's everybody doing today?

The boy and I went garage selling today and to a homeschool group book sale. We did very well. I should be able to resell some of it and pay for my mad money for my girls long weekend next month. Im working on reorganizing the pantry, that’s always fun. Tonight after dinner I need to spend...

    What's everybody doing today?

Went to the post office this morning to pick up the new babies 17 speckled Sussex and 3 khaki Campbells. The smallest one had a cut on its leg so I put some Vicks Salve on it. I was dripping with sweat already after getting them settled in and the big chickens fed. Went to a local restaurant...

    Weather in your area?

We’re dying here in east Texas! It’s hot and humid, we’ll get a break from it in September.

What will the unprepared consume when the recession kicks in?

Fish sticks, glued together pseudo chicken nuggets, cheap hotdogs.

    Rice Shortages Next?

Fried rice is one of my favorites, red beans and rice is good eats too, and we have yellow or Mexican rice as a side at least a couple times a week. We keep at least a 3 year supply of rice on hand because it stores so well. I’m not far from LA and it’s grown here in Texas as well but...

    What's everybody doing today?

I’m feeling a little better today. Made some beef jerky, dried some red bell peppers, and made a couple loaves of zucchini bread. Hubby was disappointed it wasn’t banana nut bread but still managed to choke down half a loaf in a sitting. 🙄 😆. Fixin’ to put some steaks on the grill I marinated...

    What's everybody doing today?

I wonder if throwing a few rubber snakes around where the birds are would encourage them to find a new home?

    What's everybody doing today?

Well I had a unicorn of a day. There’s no kids or grandkids, (they’re all at the beach for several days), and it was cool and breezy outside (we’re usually in the 80’s and 90’s here). A perfect opportunity to get some stuff done outside but no, I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. I...

    What's everybody doing today?

😆. You are a wise man!!! My hubby does the same thing except he always manages to need to come back to the house for something he “forgot” and comes out with a plate of food. H’s not interested in the hen party but he’s going to get the goodies anyway 😆. Will you need to come back home to pick...

    What's everybody doing today?

Had a late meeting last night and up early this morning seeing the kids off. The kids and grandkids are all going to the beach for a few days. It already seems quiet around here. So many things I could do but I’m not sure what I actually will do. I’m hoping the answer is in the bottom of...

Hello! I am glad to be here.

Welcome for the piney woods of east Texas! I have canned a bit in the past but have recently started up again but focusing on canning meals and convenience foods.

    Self sufficient with chickens?

@goshengirl We are still working on it. We’ve decided to just keep breeding the mealworms and not use them for feed just yet. We started with all new chicks in February so they're still just freeloaders. 🤣. Hopefully they will start laying soon. We plan to use egg production as the measure...

    What Shortages are You Seeing?

have a good stash of the basics so I’ve been working on the convenience foods this week. I noticed Walmart has limits set for Jiffy cornbread mix (limit 12) and some other items. 1/2 gallon Mason jars are in & out of stock frequently at Walmart online and they are marked way up on Amazon. We...

    What's everybody doing today?

Today was a self proclaimed anti-procrastination day so I took care of several things that have been lingering on my to-do list. Got meals prepped for the rest of the week so I can concentrate on getting books priced for the book sale next week in the afternoons and take care of the garden and...

    Lets talk Hydration

I can’t deal with the heat but I keep frozen grapes and small berries for hubby in the summer. They’re really refreshing.

    Preparations Update

I wash dishes as I go along cooking but when the food’s done I just want everyone to relax and enjoy each other’s company. We throw the dirty dishes in the trash. It’s well worth the few bucks spent on disposables.
