    Lessons learned from Typhoon Manghut

As in the news of the day section I have posted a few pictures and details of the typhoon over here in Hong Kong. I thought a few of my lessons learned would be a good thing to type out, even though this is a homesteading/prepping forum and we all "think" we are prepared a bit more than the...

I have returned.....to Hong Kong...for the last time.

Resort is a ski hill and golf club so year round, the best part is it's 7 miles down the road from our property. Also good thing is the benefits, free skiing, free golf, free use of the pools, water park and fitness center, discounts for family on spa's (my wife is ecstatic about that one...)...

    Drag queens in the Navy?

My first ship...the Mighty USS Independence, was all guys, and one experimental female flight surgeon that was very nice on the eyes.... No problems, guys acted like the rough sailors we were, and got the job done. Had the usual dirtbags but they got sorted out as needed. the gays kept to...

I have a Hotel/Restaurant management degree, as well as 6Sigma green belt.... Either way I pretty much accepted the offer at the resort, when they are going to create a position for you just to have you there....then your skills must be in demand

    Drag queens in the Navy?

I guess my point is that the military isn't a social experiment....The one job the military has is to break things and be really really good at it! if thats what people choose to do on their own time I dont care, but promoting it like it's some kind of a great thing when the Navy and Army have...

    Sharpening Kitchen Knives

I make my guys wash their knives, no knives go in the deep sink. To dangerous. Makes no sense to buy knives every-time the old ones get dull...buy good and no problems with decent training. But.... commercial grade kitchen knives are usually not the top quality product people expect. So...

I have returned.....to Hong Kong...for the last time.

As the title says, I have just finished a 3 week trip to Gods Country (Northern Michigan )with my family. Our son wore shoes 4 days out of the 3 weeks we were there, my wife cried when we had to leave. Perfect weather every day, rained once for about 45 minutes... Lots done, bought a car...

    Sharpening Kitchen Knives

Kitchen knives sold in department stores are (usually) 100% crap. Typically stainless steel that once dull will take forever to get back to a decent edge. You want a high carbon steel or a Japanese style Damascus type of blade. Sharpeners don't work very well if you want a razor sharp blade. (...

Brown skies and muddy humidity over here. In the 80s but no wind or air movement at all so feels like you are breathing through a hot wet towel. 9 days and it will be cool fresh northern Michigan air!

    Teachers Are great

I had one good teacher when I was in school in the 90s, the rest were just biding their time until retirement. Mr. Eldridge, our Forestry teacher, actually cared about his students and would tutor them if needed. Bought cigars for a kid who got a girl pregnant, took us to the back forest school...

Old Age Question About Rural Living Alone

My father commented on our toilet in our new house being taller, I honestly didn't notice the difference. He kept saying "wait til you get older you'll see!" Our plan is something like TMT's, a good chunk of land that we set up now for the future for our son and his family, to move to when he...
