Got your hummingbird feeders up yet?

LOL!! You know we put out a feast. Just can't help ourselves. One feeder won't do, we'll have at least 7 or 8 of 'em if I remember. Last year was an off year for them, for whatever reason. We had some, never saw more than maybe a half dozen at a time. The year before, we counted close to 30...

Got your hummingbird feeders up yet?

Thank you all for the reminder. I went and looked at a migration map and they're getting close. Closest sighting to me is about an hour's drive and also 700' or so lower in elevation. It's getting close to time. I must dig them out and wash them up for a new season. We love our hummers. :)

    diet starting today

I used to think the same thing. Tried for many years to make it work for me. Finally had to face what "good foods" are in my own skin. And potatoes (real potatoes not tater tots) and 100% whole wheat (I ground the wheat myself) with the healthiest of ingredients did not make those things good...

    diet starting today

Sonya123, we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Been there, done that with a high carb diet, and yes, good quality home grown and homemade, not junk. I did not find the fountain of good health there. If you are able to eat the way you describe, blessings to you, sincerely. I...

    diet starting today

Probably pushin' 60 years ago, as a "fat kid", I remember that even then, with little knowledge of anything nutritional, that when I cut out the bread and potatoes, the weight dropped off of me pretty dramatically. I didn't know what I was doing back then. But today I understand that bread and...

    diet starting today

A couple of things come to mind. A doc I have spent a little time with has told me a couple of times, "You can't exercise your way out of a bad diet." At least in my case, I found that to be correct. Exercise is good, don't get me wrong. But it's not gonna make up for eating stuff you probably...

    diet starting today

Keto / very low-carb / heavily meat based is where I like being. I'm not 100% carnivore but sometimes have meals that would be considered such. Has worked well for me. (I'm maybe 8 years into my "radical" diet and suspect I wouldn't be on this side of the sod had I continued with trying to be...

Most essential items in your home you couldnt live without

I powered through the sticker shock and bought a BCS a couple of years ago. Wow! That is one NICE machine. It does everything I ask of it and sometimes I ask it to do some pretty rough stuff. Would like to have a few more attachments but I am definitely not sorry I bought it.

    Front Porch Chit Chat

I like colors, but the black and white contrast of #1 seems to give some "pop" to the impression. It also has my eye focused more on her than what she's wearing. That said, I'm not sure there is a wrong choice.

Yeah, stupid should hurt. But I also hate to see people die from it. Learn from it, yes, die, no. Kinda sounds like they weren't learning.

I'm Really Starting To Hate HP Printers

Yeah, it's interesting how different people use a printer. :)

I'm Really Starting To Hate HP Printers

Very good points! I mulled them over quite a lot before I sprung for a new printer. I'd have liked to have gone laser rather than inkjet but... I DO print in color, probably as often or more often than I do in black n white. We print labels to go onto our jellies / jams / pickles, stuff like...

    Kitchen Island Issue

I'll be the contrarian. I say, make lots more marks and stains! It gives it character! My mom and dad had an old kitchen table that ended up in the basement. They used it when they were canning since they had a kitchen stove down there and it didn't make the living area of the house so hot...

    Intermittent Fasting

Yup. :) Funny how that works. I've heard people try to argue that but I've also seen the people who ignore it a few of which are zero carb. The thing I find the most fascinating is the appearance of youth among some aging carnivores. I've seen 60, 70, even 80 year olds on a long term...

I'm Really Starting To Hate HP Printers

I went with an ink tank printer too. Just unboxed it today. I went with a Cannon G620. It was hard to decide what to go with. We've had a Brother for quite a few years but it has been doing very poorly with color printing of late despite lots of cleaning (and wasting a LOT of ink). Looked at...

    Raw Milk

I don't know much about irradiation. But not all pasteurization is the same. There are some who only pasteurize to the very minimum required which I believe is something close to 160 degrees, just hitting that temp, not holding it there, and then cooling it. Ultrapasteurization is another animal...

    Raw Milk

I have been getting some raw milk locally for close to a year now. "It's for the cats. We have cats." I used to buy cream from a local dairy that sells in local stores. A pint of cream is about $5 and I was getting tired of taking it home and it going bad within about 2 days. This was from the...

Why keep your cell phone number if you have permanently moved across country??

"Long distance" is nothing more than a scam by phone companies to skim more money out of their customers' pockets. This ain't 1950 anymore. For a lot of people, they don't even bother with a land line anymore. We technically have one with the fiber-optic internet connection but that phone...

What are you paying for gas?

It keeps jumpin' around here. One day it's $2.99, a few days later it's $3.49, a few days later it's $3.19... etc.

    Concern about missing members

That's not a bad idea. I don't use posts but I'm way too much inclined to think "I'll remember..." and I'm lucky if I remember what I had for supper an hour ago. LOL!! But my wife is the one who writes stuff down. So I just ask her, often. I've told myself for years that I should start...
