    Seasonal Bargains and Deals

Not necessarily a seasonal thing, but storage unit auctions are another possibility for bargains. I was surprised that my Mennonite neighbors were into them. They look for stuff to buy and resell. Not as surprised to find out another enterprising person in town does them. He shared last week...

    Seasonal Bargains and Deals

Agreed. I love sales, but try to stay away as I need to liquidate what I have. On Friday I did go to a rummage sale. The jewelry table was mobbed, so I went back when the coast was clear. Picked up 3 older pieces, including a cross. 24k gold, vintage Italy. I may have missed other goodies, but...

Rant for the Day (keep it clean)

Snaps? I had regular customers come into Tractor Supply for the shirts that had snaps instead of buttons. Not sure if they still sell them, but they must yet be available. Nice, quality shirts.

Liberal state declares war on small farmers and homesteaders

I had to stop for a minute and think about the reactions to the comment that cows are not allowed out of the barn. Must be it’s been going on longer than I thought because now everyone thinks that’s normal. THATS sad.

Liberal state declares war on small farmers and homesteaders

Just south of you, probably true for all of NY, dairy farmers can’t let the cows out to graze, stretch, whatever. 20 years ago when the farm was going my FIL did and sometimes I will see a few heifers out or some beef cows. But most will never be let out. A good friend who works at a large farm...

Walmart plans to charge you to use self checkout.

Really. Fox News today, 3/20/24, Walmart plans to require a $99 annual fee if you plan to use the self checkout. I don’t think this will go over well. It’s a great way to send business elsewhere.

    What's Everybody Canning?

I’d say go online to Costco and order them, with $3 delivery, but it doesn’t seem to work if the zip code for the store closest to you doesn’t have them in stock. Maybe if you used the zip code for that store that does have them it might work.

    Pallet buy

There is a store nearby where they sold such goods. For the first year or two, it was nice to go and find a bargain. Then, they got fancy and started charging like almost retail. I don’t know if it was a greed thing, or if they had to, to cover losses on unsellable stuff. I’m thinking it was...

PREPPING for being "OLD", 80's and 90's and 100's.

Sonya, I hope that your plan works. As for me, these last 5 years have hit me like a ton of bricks. Forget going down the stairs to the stove with firewood. Lots of things are not a good idea anymore.i am not that old and have lots that I can contribute, but aches and pains and slow is the way I...

Just curious...do you carry cash, or plastic only?

A bit off topic, but possibly something to consider if you might have older bills. At the register at a store at the mall was a sign stating that no larger bills from before 2012? would be accepted, as they don’t have the ‘safety’ strip on them. I don’t shop much so I don’t know if this is a...

    Preparations Update

Magpie, aren’t those refillable lighters? A small container of fuel might be available easier. Here they’re in hardware stores and at the checkout at Walmart by cigarette supplies.

    What Shortages are You Seeing?

I agree. I just did my bills, and they were huge. There were two major unexpected expenses. We did help one of the kids with an unexpected bill that they could not handle. Electric should not be big this month, hopefully. Received news on Tuesday that our governor here in NY has cut school...

    What Shortages are You Seeing?

My Tacoma bumper rusted away and I replaced it with a heavy duty Body Armor bumper, and added cube lights. That bumper will last, and I pity anyone who runs into it. About 800, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. i think it was free shipping, and it was quick delivery. Just a thought. An...

    CBD?

I have used this for over a year, taking it at night. No aches, no pains, and consistent good sleep. During the day it’s extra strength Tylenol because some gummies make me feel loopy. Gummies can be cut in half, so it’s possible to take just what works for you. Different products for...

    Book storage?

No plastic. Totes and bins encourage mold. I have several thousand books that I sell online too, and over the years have gone from bookcases to industrial racks that I can work at from either side. Costco has a nice, heavy duty set. I don’t trust plastic shelves or the metal baker style rack...

    Old Phones

I checked out this thread thinking it might have something to do with wall phones. I miss the old rotary phone. Wish I hadn’t gotten rid of it. Can’t even find one at thrift shops now. Guess I’ll have to keep looking at yard sales.
