I will be shopping today for my wife. Flowers, card, and candy. My Mother always used to say "it isn't Easter without a bunny"

So called BARTER-TRADE items for Post-SHTF.

All true. The new Zippo lighters are no where near as good as the old ones. I had one I carried for thirty years. Refilled it about once a month. Sadly that was confiscated by the TSA. The new Zippos have to be refilled about once a week. For me it is a Saturday morning ritual. Refill the Zipo...

So called BARTER-TRADE items for Post-SHTF.

I did not have a good experience with the butane insert for my Zippo lighter. It died the first time it had to be refilled. It would not refill. I was very disappointed. The butane insert seemed like a great idea. You could use it with fluid or butane. I did not try another insert. Once burned...

So called BARTER-TRADE items for Post-SHTF.

I have never known a wick to wear out, but you can get lighter fluid and flints on Amazon. I have several Zippo lighters and the corresponding fuel and flints. Wal Mart used to sell lighter fluid in small cans that would be a preferable size for barter. From the war in Bosnia people said...

Some Strategies for Dealing with Difficult People

God Bless her for being that patient, and even writing a book. I'm afraid I'm not that accepting or patient. When somebody is nasty to me I am probably going to be nasty back, and looking for some good is the last thing on my mind. One of the best parts of retirement is not HAVING to be nice...

    Any Woodstock alumni, here?

Can I be considered a Woodstock era Alumni? I remember it happening quite well, but it was way to far for me to travel. I watched and read everything about it. Seemed like it was the focal point of our lives for a long time.

Just curious...do you carry cash, or plastic only?

The only money in my wallet is for emergencies, and kept in a separate zippered compartment. I carry cash in a money clip; large bills inside, small bills outside. The theory being if someone sees $1's on the outside they really don't know how much you have. A lesson learned back in the paper...

    I Remember When . . .

I remember the Milk Man and the Bread Man making deliveries every week. We had a metal milk box on the porch where you put your empty bottles, and the Milk Man would bring a new supply. When I started driving, gas was .18 cents a gallon, and the gas stations always had promotions: free drinking...

    Squatters...

This is a very scary issue for me. My daughter has a beach house that is about 4 hours from her main residence, which they use as rental property and for personal use. Both houses, their main residence and the rental property are left unoccupied for significant periods of time. Being a house...

Are you dressed suave and dabonaire ?

Suave and Debonaire? Not hardly. An unmade bed would be a more apt description.

Do You want a "FAR" better experience on this "FORUM"........???

I agree, and would also add I like the questions that really make you analyze and think. Are you as prepared as you think you are, and have you thought this all the way through?

Whats the best/ most useful free thing you've rescued?

I don't know how useful they are, but does rescuing 15 dogs count? Every single dog we have had has been a rescue from someplace.

    Sandwich recipes

My wife likes Ruben's. Not my cup of tea. My go-to is a good club sandwich or tuna salad. There are a couple of retaurants near me where I will always get the club sandwich. Definitely not something I can get at home. I have been trying to cut down on carbs, so I have been eating tuna fish...

How much "CASH" should a prepper regularly carry on themselves...???

I carry $300.00 in small bills; nothing larger the $20's in my EDC pack. Between $200 and $300 more in my wallet, and my EDC carry in my money clip.

What will you run with limited power in a grid down??

My first thought would be to keep the refrigerator in the kitchen running. We could consolidate the important things into that freezer, so what we would lose would not be important. Would the time of year have any impact on your decision? It wouldn't for me, but my logic is that if the power...
