    POPCORN Storage life.......?????

My understanding is it will store for years under the right conditions ie airtight dry container away from light, such as mylar bags in buckets. I would class it much like dent corn..as they are both very hard and well dried. Store correctly for 25 years. Yes you can grind up popcorn to make...

    Dogs

For anyone that interested: If your on Facebook, there is a group called Fresh Food Feeding for dogs - kibble feeders welcome I find the members a bit annoying lol. And the group is very Australian so lots of recommendations for there. But that aside the value in this group lays in their files...

    Dogs

Over the last 6 months or so I have almost fully transitioned all my dogs over to home made meals. For two main reasons, the first being I hate all the chemicals and preservatives in commercial dog food. I don't eat heavily processed food, why am I feeding that rubbish to my dogs whom are very...

    What's everybody doing today?

Been an interesting morning so far. Responded a chimney fire. I've always got to take the moment and ask please please if you burn for heat..Wood or oil..please clean and maintain your chimney. Today was close to a tragedy. Bartered a bunch of my extra hot pepper seedlings for some deer meat...

    Garlic

I almost always plant 'porcelain music' and 'purple stripe' because I enjoy the flavor. Those are the two I have planted the most right now. The Music can be random in size..same bed can give relatively small bulbs..or massive ones. The Purple is an average size I would say. I also have an...

    BISCUIT Recipes.......Please "BASIC" (Least Needed)

Works almost as well as an oven. I often just use a cast iron pot or pan with a lid on top of the wood stove. Even bake bread and muffins like that. It is much slower though for bigger things like bread

    BISCUIT Recipes.......Please "BASIC" (Least Needed)

A much sweeter version: Simple butter biscuits (you might call them cookies here..no idea I call them biscuits) 1 1/2 cups flour..all purpose or self raising I've used both 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup butter Cream the butter and sugar (basically mix it until it looks creamy maybe 5 or 10 mins) Add...

    What's everybody doing today?

    - 13 here today. Just stick them in confined area with a 12 volt heating plate and a well covered hot water bottle, in a room with a wood stove. Worked well for me in the past.

    Doomsday books

Just my personal opinion - if we really do slide all the way back due to whatever catastrophy hits be that emp or whatever. You need books on how to do stuff the old way. Even if you know a bit, get books on gardening, food storage, weaving, sewing, blacksmithing, tracking, snares, animal...

    What's everybody doing today?

Kinda my reasoning too. Like @Mountain trapper I have meat chicks on order and some heritage. But when I was offered these this morning because the original buyer fell through, I was like chicks in my possession now are are lot more of a sure thing than a long distant pre order considering how...

    What's everybody doing today?

So does anyone else just spur of the moment buy a bunch of baby chicks? No? Just me? Not as bad as it sounds..I was planning on acquiring some new heritage breeds to add to the flock for size and resilience. Just didn't expect it to be this morning lol. Guess I better get the brooder area set...

    ITS OVER (winter that is)

I always know we are getting into spring when the coltsfoot little yellow flowers show on the road side. I find them the most vibrant signal better weather is coming

    ITS OVER (winter that is)

Spring??? What's that? Mother nature dumped over a foot of new snow in the last few hours and it's not letting up. I can't wait to see the first few buds and green of spring. I always find it such a beautiful and positive time.

    It's all.about the flash

I've found over time I avoid the flashy channels, the perfectly manicured cabins and homesteads, him or her with not a hair out of place. I find it completely unrealistic. They are trying to appeal to people building a homestead and trying to learn. Unless you have a heap of money, building up...

How would people react to a 97% FATAL VIRUS......????

I thought about this one for a little while. For the virus to be 97% fatal, for it to actually get to that 97% without burning itself out, it would have to have a massive incubation time during which people spread it but had no symptoms. Therefore by the time even preppers realized there was a...

    calendar for planting

There are quite a few garden planning and record keeping apps that will give you info about planting dates, harvesting projections, water needs etc they will even do notification reminders if you want. I don't think any have printable notes though, but I might be wrong.
