The biggest foreign farm land owner in the US is Canadians. Then Danish, UK and others for a total of 35,000,000 acres. Actually China is 18 on the list with about 248,000 acres. I personally don't think any foreigner should be allowed to buy land in the US. Used to be Missouri had a law banning foreign ownership of farm land. Until the Chinks wanted to buy Smithfield, plus 42,000 acres. The politicians changed the law for them.
Years ago I sold a farm to some German investors. They offered more than i was asking. Real estate sells for the highest price offered. I don't think anyone here would sell their property for less than fair market value, and with the stupid anti discrimination laws, it would probably be illegal to turn down an offer from a foreigner. Everything has a price, including, or especially politicians.
 
Land to the west of Travis is Suisun swamp. Good wetland hunting and it’s been gradually been being closed off to hunters. This is the area most vulnerable to the B-52s taking off and landing
Land to south and east was pretty flat cattle land. A lot of nut farming was done in that area, but has since ceased.
To me, I would like to know which land is being bought.

Texas passed a law but, there are loopholes, as usual. And as expected, people of a certain political leaning, are screaming discrimination and bigotry.

I dont think we have to look to foreign because it will lead to within.
 
If I had a billion $$ I'd buy a large chunk of land too, just not in California. Unless it was along the California coast. It really isn't any of our business what this guy plans to do with the land. At least he's an American citizen.
Any of us could form an investment corporation and pool our money to buy large tracts of land too. Who's with me?

The point I am getting is we don‘t know where and who. The investment company from Delaware doesnt have to divulge. They have like the swiss bank of US. That’s why most big boats are registered in Delaware. Less taxes and registration With more privacy.
They can say their investors are 95% US. But the 5%?????
The land they bought is pretty much crap And not worth the price.

That's just smart business practice that any of us could take advantage of. Again, it really isn't any of our business what they plan to do with their land. Maybe the found some valuable minerals on the land, maybe they bought it for the horny toads and grasshoppers.
I don't know about private yachts, but most cargo ships and tankers are registered out side of the US, like in Panama or Libya, to save on taxes.
 
I have frequented a business in that area. Went to buy IBC tanks a couple times. Only previously filled with cinnamon, garlic and other such oils for half the price.
Gate with a phone number to get in. A couple of barns with bottling lines in them bottling an organic pesticide. Housing quarters that looked like an old motel.
If i had yelled immigration-everyone would have scattered. You can buy this product at your local Lowe’s or Depot and beyond.
I honestly don't care what they were doing there, i got a good deal. Sketchy place.

@Arcticdude would you would be concerned if land was being bought up near a major AF base that was the AF first line of defense for you. Oh wait, Travis is. I just happen to be closer.
 
If it wasn't for the agenda 2030/50 stuff where the WEF wants 30%/50% of the land in the US under "conservancy", "preservation" and the maps I have seen of the Wildlands project, including the banning of human presence zones from the UN, I would agree @Arcticdude.
But, knowing how underhanded and sneaky the progressive tyrants have become, I'm not going to just ignore it and say everything is hunky-dory.

We're talking about private land here, not public domain land. Big difference. The buyer of that property can do what he wants with it. Just like you or I can do with our land. The government has been buying up and confiscating private land for years now and putting much of it off limits to humans. We have no idea what this guy plans to do with his land. That's none of our business.

How many millions of acres does the military and federal government already "own"? I think they already control way too much land, especially in the west. In my state the government controls over 87% of all the land.
No, I have no problem with a citizen buying up land near a military base.
I remember when a 1 million dollars for a property was a big deal. Now days it's hard to find anything for less than a mil, or 10 mil or more.

Our government, local and many states, are trying to phase out limited term conservation programs like CRP, and pushing conservation easements...which are in perpetuity. It's already happening right now. Then the government can control private land...forever.

Yes they can, however, if my neighbor at my BOL just sold to the Chinese Communist government posing as a US Corporation, I'd like to know about it. Might affect my decision as to whether or not I want to sell and move, or even buy in the first place or, how much I am willing to pay for it...so yes, in a way it is our business. Ditto for a military base especially with numb nuts, don't shoot down the pretty Chinese spy balloon, in office.

The Lawyers for the corporation said it is 95% owned by citizens. When was the last time you heard a lawyer cop to 100% of the truth? That is what they get paid NOT to do. Otherwise, you just let the CEO make a statement.

Just who do you want to decide who is allowed to buy what land, how much land and where? Our government?
I agree that we should ban foreign ownership of US land. But never to US citizens. If I had an extra billion or two laying around I'd buy large tracts of land too.

I never said I wanted any purchase banned, I just want to know who my neighbors are and where people may be who have....shall I say, less than good intentions towards me and mine or my Country.

I do however believe that Countries who work against ours, especially militarily, probably shouldn't have ownership of our strategic resources.

Land purchase are public record. They are generally recorded at the county court house.
I agree, foreigners shouldn't have ownership of our strategic resources, or our politicians.

Yes, they are but, I will give you an example of why I have a little bee in my bonnet: My BOL2 is surrounded by thousands of acres of forestry land. So before I bought, I looked into who owned it.

It is an American land management company based in Houston but, the major financing partner is the Chinese. It took me quite a bit of research to track that down. They are getting sneaky and doing their best to remain opaque.

That land is oil and gas land; crickets and gas storage all over...as a matter of fact, a major oil pipeline runs right through the middle of it and a gas line along the north!

When we were in the bidding process for BOL2, there were 8 bidders. I had to outbid them for that property. One of them, I found out after the fact, (law prohibits me from being told who the other bidders were during) was this Chinese company. Since then, not a week goes by that I don't get an "offer" from some "investing company" interested in buying the lower 30 that abuts two of their plats.

The land for my BOL went for more than two and a half times asking price, taking it out of the reach of all of the locals who are mostly ranchers and farmers. There were only two cash offers; mine and guess who else?

At first, you look at it, and its like, what harm is there in the Chinese Communist Government owning a bunch of timber but, then when you look more closely, and find those pipelines running through there....is that really something you would want the Chinese or any hostile having access to?

Who gets to decide?

I'm all for being able to sell your land to whomever you would like. I am not for selling out your country to make a bigger buck.

Do they own the mineral rights with that land? If not, it won't do them much good as far as oil/gas production.
My land is surrounded by a million acres of US National Forest land. This land is open to mineral entry. There are dozens of mining claims staked around our property. Just out of curiosity I'm going to find out what mining company staked the claims and what minerals they're looking for. It could make our place very valuable. I own the mineral rights.

According to the Texas Railway Commission, yes, they own the mineral rights. More of a concern to me is the access they have to the pipelines should things go sideways.

Offer enough money and you can own the rights with any property. It is rare however that any property in Texas is sold with the oil and gas rights. Those have been claimed and owned by Heritage families for generations and generally will cost half a mill on their own, outside the cost of the land. Here, other mineral rights (gravel, sand, gold, iron ore etc) are separate and will often come with the property. How much your oil and gas rights are worth depends on how easily accessible they are, how much is stored and if the reserve is already being accessed by another property.

When I worked in North Dakota I had to deal with upset land owners who found out the they didn't own the mineral rights to their land. Generally they were sold a couple generation's ago. They weren't too pleased when we'd show up with a drill rig. Or when the oil started flowing and they didn't get a piece of it. Their only compensation would be for the construction of the 10 to 20 acre pad and the loss of crops on that acreage. There could be 4 to 8 wells drilled on that pad. Whenever a person buys land they should make sure that the mineral rights come with it.
