2 Hens Molting,But Better.

Goldie and Lucy both guessthey miss us,we been preoccupied lately.

Goldie a 1 /2 TO/Black Star,Lucy 2 Y.O. Barre Rock. Feathers growing back really fast thank goodness.

Molting is a normal part of a chickens life. We have 4 that molt fast and make the yard look like a massacre happened, feathers everywhere! The 5th is slow. She is still half bald. Molting affects their laying so the slow molter is slacking and lucky we only have 5 hens right now.

October is when mine usually molt, sometimes it's in September. I only have 3 that are laying and they just started molting last week, guess I'll have to buy a few eggs until they are laying again.

Already both are getting their feathers back now, one is no longer showing any skin and other is completely covered with little feathers, we have 6 hens. Which is more than we need.
