Hello and welcome from out in the woods of S.W. Oregon. We are concerned about EMP's as well, I have installed EMP Shields on our grid breaker panel, solar controller and our two Toyota vehicles, we got them from Stan Deyo's website, he keeps up on solar activity, done a lot of research on Tesla inventions and is an inventor himself. My wife and I have been preppers since we were married in 1974, but really stepped things up when Obama got in office.

You are allowed to say anything as long as you are willing to take the responsibility for it.
You will find my kid to be as opinionated as I am,
HOWEVER, we do not often share opinions.
It's all perspective.

And at long last you get to meet my mutant offspring. LOLJK.

Nah...

..He's In Solid around here.. 🤓

@AMC Bienveneetoes from Lost Angeles.. Lookin forward to yer 'Prepventures'... 👍

re: the 'Berkey', well.. I know there are Lots of 'Berkey Fans' out there, but.. After further research (a few years back) and 'Performance reviews', longer term, etc, We settled on the 'Lifesaver': https://iconlifesaver.com/product/lifesaver-jerrycan-20000uf/?v=7516fd43adaa ...One, because it Filters-down to the Smallest pore-size (AFAIK..) on the Market - 15nm! (which is 0.015 microns -Translation:

..Most "safe" filters work down to 0.1 microns (100nm) or 0.2 microns (200nm) so this one is Significantly-smaller (and, thus - In Principle - will yield "safER" water, by being able to get out Really-small viruses, etc, but.. Of course, it's All about the Quality of the water going In, so.. "Safe" is - somewhat - 'relative', but.. These are Solid Investments, imo..

Also come with an 'Activated Charcoal' section inside (like the Berkey) to help remove Some Chems, etc, and Roundly-meet 'NSF' standards: https://iconlifesaver.com/news/lifesaver-jerrycan-meets-nsf-protocol-p248/?v=7516fd43adaa

..but, the Main Reason I suggest consideration of them (since yer just 'starting out'..) is.. a) Good-bit Less-expensive (even with a 'spare cartridge', ie: https://eartheasy.com/lifesaver-jerrycan-portable-water-filter/ ..So, you'll Still be 'ahead', on the bux-side, vs a Berkey, and b) Portable / Bug-outable..

..Anyway, just some 'Data for Rumination' - NOT a 'sales Rep' nor shill - just tryin to help a Fellow Feral-Kid out... :p

Fwiw..

The problem with tiny pores is that they get clogged quickly. If you were to use the Berkey as a prefilter and then the Lifesaver as the secondary filter it will last longer before clogging. You also have the disadvantage of needing two filter replacements. It is all give and take and a lot depends on your source.

Sure, but you can always mitigate that with even somewhat 'coarse' pre-filtering, ie: Treat with a flocculant / Run thru 'Coffee-filters', or a 'cheaper' (ie: Sawyer Family-size unit, etc, etc..) sys for that 'pre-stage' - That won't be as brutal on the wallet as a Berkey.. (which leaves more money for .308 and .22 LR, etc.. :)

..Again, not 'Berkey-bashing', either, just 411'ing, Fwiw..
