if you want to play with your stains and experiment
try this.
using a sponge, tap it in the black. you do not want a lot of die
die the edge holding the sponge on a angle. and get die on the top of the leather in a random nonpattern.
then tap the leather with the black..hee and there
take your mahogany antique dye, cut it with alchol 50/50
dye your project but do not try and get it evenly dyed

here is another dye experiment. making new look distressed
stained it brown, then stained it black in random spots

That is beautiful! Nicely done!

Bucky has got a new home.....I can't for the life of me under stand why an $80 knife would come with a plastic sheath ...30 years ago this blade would have come with a leather holster and I would not have had to make one for it... but any who here is a few of the items I've crafted with some leather...

Would you mind If i copied this design?
I like it.
Would you mind posting the other side?

It looks like you made a bag and a small saddle bag to hang over it.

Very inventive.

Whelp, after making the sheath for my Estwing hatchet, I thought it was about time for me to make a cover for my Garrett Wade tomahawk.
I also made a shaft guard for over-strike protection.

Thinking about getting back into tooling patterns now that I have a bit more time to focus on it.

Check to see if there's a local Tandy Leather store near you. Many offer classes.

Everything I make is hand cut, punched, and laced or stitched.

Here are a few other things I've made.

I used to have a couple of similar hair barrettes. Very nice work! What kind of wood did you use for the pick?

if you want to.
look on amazon for 7 ply waxed string.
then buy the large size leather sewing needle [000]
use a 1 mm hole punch spaced 1/4''

see if you like that

flatten the string to thread the needle, and do not tie the string. i lt about 6'' or so just hang out. takes a little getting used to. but after a while you will never tie the thread on the needla again

I use 1/4" dowels. I have an Exacto saw and miter box for the angled cut and a pencil sharpener for the point. I sand them with 240 grit paper, then stain them with the same color stain I use for the barrette.

I prefer the waxed thread and these needles:

I generally match the color of the thread to the project (black on black, brown on brown, natural on natural). I originally was going to stain this, hence the brown thread, but then decided after the fact to leave it natural.

I never tie the thread to the needle. It would make it too hard to pass through the holes.

I use a 4mm spacing punch set for 90% of my projects and always tie off my projects between the layers to hide the knots.

Love that coaster set and holder. May just have to try that.

How do you secure the vertical part of the holder to the base?

Also, nice job on the tooling of that holster!

i use 2 layers of veg tan with a 3rd of suede on the bottom to stop sliding
this gives me 5/16 of surface to glue to
