Meindl boots have been made in Germany since 1683... yep, been making boots 339yrs. They know what they are doing, lol. They make boots, sometimes just the soles for military boots all over the world. More of a multi-purpose type boot.

@Spikedriver has to have heavy duty work boots working on the railroads. Maybe he'll speak up. I buy hikers which work well in the woods or here doing regular farm work. Made by Meindl, really good boots but they don't make boots for heavy industry work.
I wear Redwing #4402. Very long lasting and pretty comfortable. I get 18 months or a little more out of a pair. They cost around $235, but I get a discount through my job.
