Last weekend, Mrs. Sparky surprised me with a Knife Forging class where I took half a horseshoe and turned it into a knife in 3 hours. The blade turned out OK (instructor provided initial bevels are uneven, too much steel on one side of the blade, and the blade's a bit too thick), but the experience did not come with a sheath. I could have bought a generic "box knife" style sheath (strip of leather folded up with stitching on both sides, no welt), I figured I could do better.
Now, while I seriously doubt that I will ever actually carry the horseshoe knife I made, the thought of having a fixed blade knife without a sheath is repugnant to me...
That being said, I took a couple hours out of my day yesterday to fashion a simple Taco style belt sheath for it.
I need to stop by Tandy Leather to get some Brown Edge Coat to finish it, bit I think it turned out not terrible.
