Just trying to be helpful... In about a month or two your chicks are going to start flying out of the pen. Your fence is only 4ft tall, standard chicken wire is 6ft tall, a much better deterrent. I bought 8ft green metal fence posts for my pen. You will need to trim the flight feathers on their wings every couple of months. Even then they still might get over a 4ft fence. :)

Here's our RIR. 1 year old. they grow up so fast.

Just bought 8 "easter egger" pullets. Um hoping at least 1 will lay blue. But they are so pretty id be ok if they all lay brown.

Current set up in the coop. Got these 6 week old pullets 2 days ago. Ive prepared the older chickens by moving the layimg boxes out several weeks ago and keeping the coop door shut during the day. Their run is now about 2k sq ft.
We had tried to let them have run of the yard but they were so destructive.

I have been opening the kennel after the big girls go out in the AM. And closing it back up before I open the coop for the evening. I'm a week or 2 im guessing they will be able to go out into the little run we made for them until we formally introducw them to the flock.

First day outside after being "cooped up" for 1 1/2 weeks.

I think they are 8-9 weeks old now. I have several showing signs of beards. Im hoping thats a good indicator of wether they will lay blue.

We made a little chicken yard here so the big girls cant get to them but can check them out. So far its working great. We had them ib a cardboard lined dog kennel that we locked them in at night. Opened the coop, let the big girls in. Lock the coop. Then in the morning let the big girls out shut the door so they cant get back in. Let the little ones out of the kennel to have run of the coop all day. They've even figured out how to get on the roosts
