Interesting read. Hunger creates some interesting food options.

BUMP..........
If things got really bad, shortly before putting a gun in my mouth, I would consider eating food from Wal-Mart .

If you can find pine trees, you have food. the white, inner bark is edible. tastes like pine Lysol, but it IS edible. Plantain, dandelions and Polk likewise provide nutrition. here, Walnuts and pecans often grow wild and then there's the critters that feed on them.
Oh yes... there's always POSSUM!

When Sherman's troops overtook and raided the food supplies of the Confederate South, Union soldiers regarded as them as animal feed and left them behind in the fields. The Confederates, however, survived by eating this crop and considered themselves lucky to have had them and, so, the peas became symbolic of luck. Good luck to be gained by eating black-eyed peas with greens (such as collards) comes from the symbols of peas as coins and greens as paper money.
