I can’t remember where I heard this, but it was long before I was a Boy Scout. It has served me well over the years. I don’t know how ‘famous’ it is, but it is to me.

“White man builds a big fire and stands far away. Indian builds a small fire and stays close.”

It is relevant in so many situations. Small fires take less fuel, so less foraging. Draws less attention as it can be more discrete. All you really need for heat is a log or rock to start a small fire against and something to reflect it back at your back. And for cooking, a small pile of coals and enough to replace them as they burn out.

Makes sense to me.

A lady friend of mine told me once, "Pay attention or pay the consequences."
Something else we should all remember:
"Our main agenda is to have all guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn't matter if you have to distort the facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed."
Sara Brady

That first quote is so true and kind of relates to the second one, also!

"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide."
"John Adams"

"It is better to be thought a Fool then to open ones mouth and remove all doubt. " Author unknown.

It actually originated in the bible, in Proverbs 17:28.

NIV: Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

King James: Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

ESV: Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

MSG: Even dunces who keep quiet are thought to be wise; as long as they keep their mouths shut, they’re smart.

“There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”

― Will Rogers

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”

― Abraham Lincoln

Good one Sentry, reminds me of this one.

" If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves ".

I think we have passed all points.
Some say Churchill wrote this, some say unknown or even a Roman Scholar?
