I saw that this story was on today about GPS. I am currently watching the story, but realize that much of our life is monitored and run by GPS. I did not realize that the Air Force is over the program.

There is at least one error in the story. Peterson Air Force base is not in Denver, but in Colorado Springs. Evidently Colorado Springs has some really key command centers, more than I realized.

I met my husband many, many years ago working on the GPS satellite project for Rockwell International. I was 18. It's been around a long time. Back then it was just for military use.

I think you are correct. I always have an image of someone being chased or hunted, while their smart phone or other devices are sending information about their location. The only ways to be truly turned off is to not have a television, phone, computer or other electronic devices.

The GPS function is always on. You turn off the display but not the receiver. No matter what device it is in you can be tracked.
The two ways to limit exposure is to use throw away devices and change your electronic signature.
Not having one is doable but too inconvenient for most people. Most portable computing devices are equipped by default as are phones.
You can make a portable computer using the Raspberry and some add-ons to make it functional but as soon as you connect to a wi-fi you are automatically tracked.

Any entity tracking me, even an electronic one must get terminally bored. In fact, that's the secondary motive for carrying my cellphone, after the 911 feature (I never make normal calls and never respond to incoming).

I try to find the bright side in everything.
Just like the millennials, I hope the govt gets addicted to all of the 'smart data' out there.
Every vehicle with onstar (or phone), every smart device, can be tracked.
If cops are mislead into thinking I'm a BG, they will find they have nothing, zip, nada when this guy gets into his 2003 pickup with his flip-phone.

My phone thinks I'm in Henderson Nevada. My tablet thinks I'm in Tejeras New Mexico. Both are wrong.

I helped a friend set up her new iPad and the location said it was in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Pretty far away from Washington state. I spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support and they finally sent a replacement iPad.
Same problem. I think her wireless router is the problem.

my phone for calls and text says im in a town 35 miles away.im good with that.this one im using has a invalid sim card.and im using someone's wifi.so I'm sure they know where i am right now. or at least close to it.they know where my car is.on account it has a gps in it.

My wife worked for a local restaurant that used to do deliveries. At one point, the ap they used for delivery tracking put her about 10 miles off the coast of Africa in the India Ocean!

Gimme a good compass and a topographical map any day...

I'm pretty sure that the Global Positioning System works. Many of the non-military apps that use it are "creatively designed" though.
