Was just reading an article where a CEO has said groceries could go up in price 10-14 % by October
https://alt-market.us/grocery-prices-could-rise-10-to-14-percent-by-october-grocery-chain-ceo-warns/

The latest June data already show price inflation at a 13-year high, with prices having risen 5.4 percent year-over-year. Proponents of the big-government policies driving much of this increase insist the uptick in prices is only temporary. But billionaire and grocery chain CEO John Catsimatidis just predicted that overall price inflation, for consumer goods generally, will hit a 6 percent annualized rate by October.

In an interview with Fox Business, the CEO warned that his industry is seeing skyrocketing costs on the supply chain side, and that businesses will have to raise prices for consumers as a result.

“Food prices are getting higher, and we expect even more increases by October,” Catsimatidis said. “You have to pass [those extra costs] on [to consumers] or you’re not doing your duty to God, your country, your employees, and your company.”

While we can’t know for certain, Catsimatidis said rising costs could mean an astounding 10 to 14 percent specific increase in grocery prices by October.
That’s truly a shocking amount. But this warning offers more than insight into the grocery industry. It’s a painful reminder of how price inflation hurts everyday Americans.

Being 75 y/o I remember all the stories of the hell the people in USSR had to endure waiting in long lines for access to stores with mostly empty shelves of food and pretty much all consumer goods, which were constantly rising in price. The "end product" of a failed state.

Roughly around December and January I started purchasing Corned Beef. I was purchasing what ever brand was the cheapest from Amazon.com (I really think it all comes from the same production facility in Argentina, just different labels). So it ranged from $3.78 to $4.22 per can delivered to the bottom of my mountain.
Now currently and for the last three or so months I have been watching it has been $8.99 and higher. That is roughly 130 % price increase.

This has put an extra hitch in my giddy-up.
I'm seriously considering getting another dehydrator so I can increase my food storage. I want to dry frozen foods before the prices get much higher

I just ordered 40 pounds of bread flour. It is cheaper to bake my own bread than buy a loaf from the store. I figure when times get harder I could sell loaves when people can't afford it from the stores. I think my freezer is half full of milk and flour. I might just buy a few 50lb bags of wheat from the feed store just in case to grind my own flour (for bread to sell).

Unfortunately prices have been rising for food much like fuel (gas). They will keep rising and in my opinion we have seen nothing yet. Sadly, the only ones that will care are the working people or those on fixed incomes. Anyone getting handouts won't care in the least. Those on fixed incomes will suffer unless they get increases like union members do. Working people wont get exemptions or help.

Add to that China buying up farms and property.

For sure, prices are going to continue to rise.

K's union only got 60 cents an hour raise this year. That is to hold them until next July when the next raise is to come if at all. It sucks because 60 cents if nothing with inflation!

Grimm, your right, it does suck but at least it was a raise. I'm sure there's a lot more to it though like health coverage and such the employer pays that have risen as well. A lot are getting very little raise. It's odd that those working are not seeing much pay increases yet here they are paying sign-on bonuses and the like for new help.

With the money being printed the value of the dollar has decreased on value by 30% according to some ive heard. I'm doubtful it's that much but for sure we are getting less for what we spend.

And yet, the government is cutting off the "pandemic" food stamps for the poor after August.

If they have kids they're getting a monthly check so I figure they ( government) just shuffled it around to make people think they're getting more than they are.

I see some of my nieces on facebook showing off the ocean vacations they take and the antique car they just bought and shake my head.
Wasting money like that is something I just can't handle ( makes me itch) lol
Its taken me decades to get through to hubby's head to stop wasting money like he did.
Glad he wised up and started selling things and investing in things that will help us weather whats coming.

Those monthly child checks are just an advance for what people get lump sum at tax time. Hope they know they won't be getting it at tax time. At the school, I heard about what many single moms would buy with that lump sum. Expensive gaming system for their four year olds, a weekend in Vegas for mom...

I live in a very poor area with low wages. Many people are struggling with the cost increases on everything. For some of the disabled, the increased food stamps has allowed them to eat. I volunteer with some local groups and some of the disabled are worried.
The churches around here don't help at all.

The cost increases in food are hitting everyone that don't raise their own,, or at least a large part of it. Only ones not affected greatly are the wealthy. Just like every other price increase in anything. Poor always gets hit the hardest. Biggest reason they should strive to raise all the food they can without having to buy it.

Most of the local poor live in apts. and are not allowed to grow anything. We had a garden last year to donate to the food bank. One day while we were gone, someone cleaned it out.

I agree for those who can work, but what about the disabled?

Rusty, believe me I get it. All during the scam-demic I have worked. I am grateful for that. What ticks me off to no end is the handouts, the freebies, the waste and the bragging by those taking handouts. To be clear, I have zero issue with those that need help. Actual help; not those too lazy to work. We in America need to support and help those less fortunate than us where we can. We need to support our veterans. This is a huge issue for me. Costs are going through the proverbial roof and it is 200% the result of the those voting for the trash in office. We had a leader looking out for the little people but others chose to vote in socialist / communist "leaders". All anyone needs to look at is what happened in Venezuela. I have said and will say it again. Those supporting this have created where we are now. Groceries, fuel, "insert whatever here" will go up for sure. Will people actually go hungry here? Its anyone's guess at this point but I doubt it simply because the "card" is in hand. We are not far from the bread lines but it is hidden as the .gov hands out cards that miraculously create food... This will collapse sooner or later. It will be ugly as most won't be able to afford even the basics and it is very clear none of them will be prepared for that.

Because of cutbacks, some of the disabled veterans here can't even get transportation to the VA clinic. And with covid, it is hard to get volunteers, and you have to buy your own gasoline, so the cost has gone up too much for some volunteers. I would help more but I am on a fixed income myself.

I am with Guardian, naturally I am not talking about the disabled, elderly, vets and the others who paid their dues. The rest can starve. The POS who raided your garden would not have had the time or energy to do that **** after work.

Where are the community members? Don't they help each other? This whole c19 thing is such crap. More damage is being caused by the response than the actual "virus". The former president made an effort to help our veterans. Where is that support from the current administration? Can any of you that voted for this administration comment? I would be interested in knowing the reasons for not supporting our veterans.

I heard someone is getting $1300 a month in food stamps for a family of 4.
I have a booth at the Pittsburgh Rennaisaunce Festival. I have advertised everywhere for a helper, no takers. Only 6 weekends 9:30 to 6:30 pay is 250$ a weekend and no one will even ask a question. It is fun and easy money. But all this free money, no one is thinking Any farther than their trips and shopping experiences.

Same here. It's disgusting, isn't it? Even TP in those big packs are $1 a roll for tp. And then they have all those dumb explainations on the packages that say one roll equals 2 or 3 rolls, which it doesnt.

I was shocked! My wife usually does the grocery shopping and had no idea how easy it was to fit basically $600 worth of supplies in a trunk.
