Sinking of a ship got us into the war, or that is what they say.

    https://www.thevarsity.com/about

The first Varsity opens in 1928 in downtown Atlanta and the success story is 3 things, location ,location, location. And of course hard work and determination.
Store below is the first one my grandparents ate at. Now 6 generations of my family have eaten at this world famous restaurant. Once teh cars became popular and The Fox Theatre opened up in 1929 plus of course Georgia Tech and President Roosevelt put up Tech Homes to 600 families business exploded.

When I was a teen we use to all meet up at the Varsity and certain parking spots were off limits to nice girls too much smooching going on. Imagine that!

History of the American Mafia. From Sicily and Mussalini 'spl' to the Italian immigration to America.

I have not watched this yet only a few minutes so no comment.

    Deleted, not really history.
This is more the story of one man bragging about being demon instead of history, so will see what else I can find.

I saw a documentary a few years ago, I don't remember where exactly. It was called "The History of S- e- x", I think. (No hyphens, just didn't know if it would be filtered out if left as a whole word.) Anyway, one of the things I found interesting was how the culture of the English that settled in what would become the US differed from the culture of the French who settled in what would become Canada. The English had much more restrictive views and did not mix well with the Native populations at all. The French, however, were much more open in their views and mixed a lot better with the Native populations.

If I find it again, I'll have another watch as I'm sure I missed or have forgotten many interesting things. But I found it fascinating how something so seemingly unrelated could influence the culture of a nation for easily 100 years, maybe more. Perhaps similar things are in play in Middle Eastern cultures that I'm not aware of as well.

Meercat, I do appreciate your mentioning not belonging to a particular religious denomination but believing in God. I can appreciate that position. I am currently a part of a particular denomination that has often used one of the sources you mention above. But I gotta admit, I don't go in lockstep there, either. I'm not sure there is a "perfect" denomination. So I kinda feel like I'm doing the best I can but am not going to be exclusive of others who are sincere who believe a little differently than I do.

Pops I'll see if I can help you find the sex but till we do lets see about what has led to it many times.:D.

I grew up in Georgia around Atlanta and can remember as a kid going to bootleggers with a family member on Sunday since it was against the law to sell it on Sunday. Lots of teens drank corn liquor or white lightening aka moonshine back then too.
Georgia bootleggers were also the creation of NASCAR.

Very good documentary on WW1. Better than most of what HollyHoods have to offer today anyway.

@PopPopT I did find the ' History Of Sex ' but the one I found is far out ,India style. I did find out also where they got the inspiration for that old Disco song ' Ring My Bell ' too.

Most of these vids look very informative. I think about this thread sometimes, then forget to look for it.

Thanks, @Meerkat for your efforts and i will be looking through these, though I'm 100% certain I can live without the history of sex.

One of my Native American ancestors was a spy against the French during the French Indian war and ended up basically crippled from wading through freezing waters and snow in the great lakes states. I found his Army papers in the National Archives.

After many years of study I find that it really doesn't matter which side we are on because there is only one side and we don't matter. IMO.

Haven't watched all of this one yet. But like all conflicts the winner seems pre determined.

And you are so right, but what matters is the intention of the heart, whether our "leaders" were right or wrong is not the point for an individual.
I have a really good quote somewhere about that.....

More detailed on the subject. A little humor added to this one, yet very accurate.

Lessons from the past that we never learn from.
try to ignore the politics of these videos, just pay attention to the history, not the agendas.

    Intermission, News flash.:D

Anyone ever wonder what happened to all the gold and silver that has been mined for 6000 years?
Somebody has a HUGE stockpile of the stuff somewhere. Fort Knox was probably robbed in the 1950s so none of it is there.
